Interesting story, very cool. I haven't been around that area in many, many years but I have a few friends from that area; I'll have to ask them if they know that shop.

My friend Sammy's record store reopened today on Record Store Day. He closes for tax season as his "real" job is a tax accountant. Actually managed not to buy anything this time. (But I cheated, he let me in yesterday for 30 mins to get first dibs.)
There are few things that guarantee cool like a good record collection. They are what separate the casual listener from the aficionado.
Or at least that's what record collectors will tell you. And they have an entire day set aside to spreading their message: Record Store Day.
All over the world today there are special events celebrating vinyl. In Quebec, record stores are taking part in Quebec City, Sherbrooke and even in Rimouski.
Boutique l'Oblique, a record store on Rivard Street in Montreal's Plateau neighbourhood, will be hosting a concert this afternoon to mark the event.
For music aficionados, Record Store Day is a chance to celebrate a certain type of listening experience that is harder to come by in an era of digital music.
"There's this very personal aspect to putting on a record... it's something that feels like an activity," said Corinna Rose, a Montreal folk singer who will be performing at l'Oblique.
Listening to digital music invariably involves being plugged into a phone or computer, devices that Rose associates with work.
"It's so nice to come home and put on a record and just sit and listen and that's it," she said.
Record Store Day was officially launched by heavy metal band Metallica in April 2008. Stores from every continent except Antarctica participate.
A list of participating record stores in Canada can be found here.

The only record store here in Damnville is only open from the first Saturday after tax day until the last Saturday of the year as the owner is a tax accountant and closes the store during his busy season. So this year Record Store Day coincided with his first day open this year. I managed to only buy 5 used records this time around...
I took my 16 year old daughter to our local record store for Record Store Day. It's a great place, cramped and PACKED with all kinds of good stuff.
