I was 13 when Good Vibrations was released in October 1966. I had the 45 (actually stole it from my older sister’s room) & would play it over and over on the little record player I had in my bedroom. It blew my mind, I’d not heard anything like that before. It seemed otherworldly, mystical, spiritual - which were concepts I didn’t know at the time, just all those new beautiful feelings. I began to wake up to a larger world outside that little bedroom, my small town, and my adolescent consciousness. Thank you, Brian.

This.

Van Dyke Parks's lyrics were a little out there, but SMILE is a masterpiece that was way ahead of its time.

No doubt.
But they really make the song.

Like this one.
Watch this video. It is excellent...

The opening tracks of KEXP's Morning Show today: Listen to the Elton John in a new light when you hear the very clear homage to the Beach Boys sound.

California Girls - The Beach BoysPosted 9 years ago by steeler
Whether one likes the music of the Beach Boys or not, one should acknowledge that Brian Wilson was a genius in the music field. Lennon and McCartney viewed him as competition, and copied some of what he was doing in the studio. That speaks for itself. In many respects, he was confined by the Beach Boys, and, later, isolated by his own demons. I wonder what he would have been producing all those lost years.
