So I'm making waffles because I spotted some blueberries in the fridge. My copy of Bittman's book is in pieces, so I usually hit the internet looking for "bittman overnight waffles" and off we go. So today I found the properly credited recipe on Epicurious, whipped it up and it seemed off but I only make them once a year or less, so who knows? Then I started reading the comments and a lot of people have complaints about it being too yeasty and dense. Neither of those are what they should be, so I hit the google again and the recipe above calls for 1/2 tsp yeast (correct), while Epicurious calls for 2tsp! And Epicurious calls for 1/2 cup less liquid. That last one I can fix, but the too-yeasty thing would be a problem but I'm also not letting them sit overnight because I got tired and didn't make the batter last night. So we'll see.

We are having taco Tuesday at work tomorrow. Just put a pork butt in the crock pot with chili, paprika, garlic, oregano & cumin and 3 cups of home made salsa. When I left for work, the house already smelled amazing!

I got this from The Minimalist column in the NYT 5-10 years ago. I make it about once a month because it's so easy and delicious. The only thing that requires chopping is the chorizo... 

1-2 cans chick peas
4 chorizo sausages
big bunch of greens (I like arugula, but any will do, sometimes it's nice to make it with something that maintains some crunch like kale or romaine)
1-3 tbsp marsala or port or cream sherry

slow cook the chick peas with oil in a skillet until they get golden/crunchy on the outside
add chopped chorizo, I like to cook it until it browns on the edges a bit
turn up the heat, add the greens and wine, it will steam and quickly cook the greens

spicy, sweet, bitter, crunchy all in one dish.

This recipe is for a pretty basic, "German style" potato salad, but it's clearly been translated through some app like Google Translate (seemingly not from a European language judging by the translated words).  It sort of reads like some of the song comments from Calypsus, some of it is pretty amusing;   which is more of the reason I am posting this:

"Nada makes for a fitter lateral dish in the season than tater salad. This Effortless Teutonic Spud Salad is a short-cut version that my Teutonic grandmother misused to sort for us. It's a acetum and oil based tater salad that's yummy with search, brats, appropriation or meet almost anything you could believe of!...When potatoes are caller enough to handgrip but noneffervescent quite enthusiastic, gently pol the skin off with a emaciated wound (entireness optimum) or a vine peeler...."

Actual recipe below:

We had a bunch of bananas that were getting just right for banana bread. But no time to bake, so I did a little search and found a weight-watchers recipe for banana 'ice cream'. Couldn't be easier, and being WW was a bonus. They have some pretty amazing recipes!

- Ripe bananas - you know the ones, with brown spots
- Slice into rounds, squares, heck hexagons if you feel like it. Just bite-sized
- Spread on baking sheet and freeze at least two hours. Or toss them in a freezer bag, the sheet just helps them freeze faster

To make banana 'ice cream':
- Put some of the frozen nanner chunks in a blender, or a cup if you have a stick blender (btw, you need a stick blender)
- Blend until smooth
- If it's a little softer than you prefer, refreeze for a bit
- Serve

It's good plain, but toppings elevate it: chocolate chips, toasted coconut, caramel sauce, hobo gravy, whatever 

The 'ice cream' is zero points. That's right, zero. Only the toppings count.

With some experimentation, you could probably add a little heavy cream to give it a bump of ice-creaminess. As long as you didn't add sugar it would still be pretty healthy.

I skimmed through the Halloween special; I forgot how bad those variety shows were back then.  Kiss does 3 tunes - one of which is Peter Criss doing "Beth" towards the end.  There's a really awful disco song and dance number at the very end.
