Wooden floors, walls and window sills
Tables and chairs worn by all of the dust
This is a place where I don't feel alone
This is a place where I feel at home.
And I built a home
for you
for me
Until it disappeared
from me
from you
And now, it's time to leave and turn to dust........
Out in the garden where we planted the seeds
There is a tree as old as me
Branches were sewn by the color of green
Ground had arose and passed its knees
By the cracks of the skin I climbed to the top
I climbed the tree to see the world
When the gusts came around to blow me down
Held on as tightly as you held onto me
Held on as tightly as you held onto me......
And I built a home
for you
for me
Until it disappeared
from me
from you
And now, it's time to leave and turn to dust........
Over one's life, all the little impacts add up to a lot. I suspect you've notched hundreds -- like your lovely post.
Sounds like Coldplay
Coldplay is extreme poetry - all emotive and verging on no objective meaning. I find this much more balanced- emotions I can parse and make sense of the words...
That's not a negative for either.
One of my rare 10. This song makes me pause and sit and listen. It reminds me of my love. My life and how little time I have left to make an impact. That the universe/world owes you nothing. And all of the things I worry about. Things I chase. Will be irrelevant on that day when I climb that tree just to see the world knowing it is my last day.

Exactly why I can't appreciate it.
That's a very moving post which leaves a lump in the throat. I feel much the same listening to this elegaic song.
Bless you our friend.

Dang I need another RP shirt! We should all order one right now!
video is heartbreakingly beautiful, also.
I dedicate this song to my mother who passed a year ago. She built a home for us seven boys and our father. She dedicated her life to this, while also teaching us the strength of her feminist beliefs. A simple girl who left the farm at fourteen to make her way in the big city.
Thanks, intheworks.
My mother too, four ROWDY sons she raised to become educated, well-mannered professionals who truly believe all people are equals. She built our home with love, kindness, and a willingness to talk with us about anything in the world.
Need I say this song is a 10?
Yet, they are happy tears of connection with the words and memories of my children when they were young. Now, in my 60s, this song hits home even stronger.
You abszolutely MUST watch the video. This is a sountrack for the finest lovevideo ive ever seen. Its the one that starts out with a landscape. Be ready to be touched in a way you may have not been ready for...i cry every time, and i never cry.
You MUST see it
wont let me post it but at YouTube Music add this /watch?v=oUFJJNQGwhk

Peter Mullan and Julia Ford, two very fine actors. I agree, it was a very moving short film.
Sincerest apologies, but this is an instant PSD for me.
It does promote the compulsion to skip.

Chimp on piano.
Your nic-name? ...eh?
I'm not a music expert but I know what I like!
That is ALL that matters!
Bill and Becca are soul-savers and I dearly love and respect them. I know that my life would be infinitely more empty without RP...
I agree đź‘Ť
After, he climbed down, and his debilitating stuttering had vanished and he could say Hi! to the girl he had always been too shy to say hi to.

Aww, man.
I second that. One of the best books I've read for many years.
I recommend "The Overstory" by Richard Powers. One of the most human books I've ever read, and it's about trees.
Sorry, but I can't understand how this song rating average is below 10...or 9...or 8!!!
God help us. What do you people want?
People that can't read probably don't appreciate the lyrics.
Hey Bill - the vocals and piano are helmed by Canadian singer-songwriter Patrick Watson, not Jason Swinscoe.
Appreciate the correction.

You're absolutely right! ;-)
If you like this voice, have a listen to Patrick Watson's "Close to Paradise" album. Like silk. If you don't like it, try to have a nice day anyway!
In fact, it is Patrick Watson's voice, another great artist! Not Jason Simcoe... Bill's mistake...
For so many reasons, this song always brings me to the edge of tears.
For my own nostalgia, my hopes and dreams, past times and lives, for my wife, for my children. . . for myself.
Beautiful.
Me too Squiddly
If not, it's a pervect cover version.
Still wonderful though!

Being but men, we walked into the trees
Afraid, letting our syllables be soft
For fear of waking the rooks,
For fear of coming
Noiselessly into a world of wings and cries.
If we were children we might climb,
Catch the rooks sleeping, and break no twig,
And, after the soft ascent,
Thrust out our heads above the branches
To wonder at the unfailing stars.
Out of confusion, as the way is,
And the wonder, that man knows,
Out of the chaos would come bliss.
That, then, is loveliness, we said,
Children in wonder watching the stars,
Is the aim and the end.
Being but men, we walked into the trees.
(this is Dylan Thomas, not me!)
I walked into a tree once. It hurt like hell and I saw stars for a bit. Never did that when I was child.
Thanks for sharing the poem. Very Nice.
Gotta be careful though, because this one on repeat can really mess you up on the wrong day.
10. You can feel this one in your bones, your blood, and the goosebumps it creates.

A good drum solo would be nice.
God help us. What do you people want?
You don't understand that your musical taste isn't universal?

"What the hell was that piece of crap?"
If your'e over 20 I strongly suggest finding other role models, or at least a new bag of quotes :-)
Preach
It's a wonderful album by an outstanding group, well deserves the 10.
Drop this song in the right moment in the right room and watch everyone go silent :-)
The voices of both border on angelic
"What the hell was that piece of crap?"
I have a buddy like that with Geddy Lee and Rush. Once he got past Geddy's voice he soon owned all their albums
Same with me. In college, I had a roommate that overplayed Rush! I used to say that Geddy's voice reminded me of "the Chipmunks". That was 30yrs ago. Now, I like the band.
For my own nostalgia, my hope and dreams, past times and lives, for my wife, for my children. . . for myself.
Beautiful.
Same. Makes for great introspection.

My hairy appendage and I live in a house we spent a good few years building (and it'll never be quite finished, if I'm honest) on a field he used to play in as a child. The house and its surroundings are more than just bricks, mortar and soil; it's all part of us, under our skin, in our blood and bones. One day, it - and us - will be nothing but dust. It's how it should be.
This is a true stop and listen and think about those who have gone and love those that are here - this track is used in a series - not sure if Netflix or Amazon! "This is Us" and is played at one of the most powerful points in series 2
A true desert island song.
This is for you Mary Eileen for enriching so many people at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

My rating is still: 8 - Most Excellent
My rating is not still 8....it's a 9 now and maybe a 10 one day....still....Long Live RP!!

Thanks, I shall :)
Perhaps the video will help exorcize your coldplay demon. ~

Wow, that reads like poetry, exceptionally well written tgrier! And fully concur, one of my personal favourites and exceptionally rare 10's too!
Amazing... This playing on My Favorites so close to the "live" time you posted this. I couldn't agree more.

2024.06.12 - Update:
I did not know this comment would get so many Likes - but as I listen to this song again today .... my comment still holds true. Lovely.
Totally agree, dear Murdog, have a nice day from France too.
Agreed. The song isn't bad, but the Coldplayesque factor is distracting for me.
I totally get that, too, and upon first hearing it years ago it was my initial thought also, but I then realised after a few listens that it is miles apart from Coldplay in the songwriting quality, and then, you start to “hear” it... This realisation was most likely because I listened to all of their matterial. It’s now my favourite song of all time - it’s just a shame RP doesn’t play more of their music!
Not that I would use it on this song, but the PSD button works on my phone, both live stream and cache.
