I agree with jbunniii. I too can't believe that this album was from 26 years ago. It has stood the test of time in my collection. Love Karl and World Party.
I saw them a couple of years ago and they were fantastic. Karl, the guitarist from The Blockheads, and a bass player. He does most of the music on his albums himself, like Winwood or McCartney do sometimes.

One of my first CDs ever (after a reluctant conversion from vinyl). Excellent all the way through. Despite having "Party" in the name, I believe Carl Wallinger did the whorl thing himself.
"Goodbye Jumbo" is a good album!
What a perfectly horrible and boring song. I feel like a kid forced to listen a Latin Mass. Ugh.

I bought a great World Party album on vinyl way back in '90 called Private Revolution, haven't listened to it in years, really good to hear them again.

Thanks Bill...everytime you play "Is it Like Today" I think how nice it would be to hear World Party. One of the best surprise concerts I went to in '92!

Saw World Party (among a few others) last Saturday night in Columbus. It rained almost all night but WP sounded great! Nothing like dancing in the rain! 
Man, I haven't played the 'Jumbo' album in years. What a great 'knock-upside-the-head.'
The whole album's great and was sorely overlooked back in the early 90s. I remember getting a carousel CD player around 91 and this disk stayed in the tray for months.

-- and the Beatles influence has always been there, and though I can hear how some can hear a tinge of Queen influence, I always heard shades of early Stones. I hear in Wallinger's singing style more Jagger influence than Lennon.

Well hell. I just listened to this whole album twice and I still don't hear the "Queen" resemblance. Guess it's just a matter of perspective. But if you're pining for something that reminds you of Merucury, I'll give you the same advice I gave folks earlier... Get Spilt Milk by Jellyfish. Their album Bellybutton is pretty decent too, but the former is a much better album IMO.
A good, not great song, and not the best song on the album, but Goodbye Jumbo is on my all-time top-ten list.
