It's the Auto-Tuning / Melodyne.   Pre-2000s Kiedis was a lot better.

Kinda sorta agree. Considering what they've done with themselves... Lineup changes, drugs & alcohol, etc, I don't think it fair to lay it all on Kiedis. Not as familiar with them as many are but, this seems to pale by comparison, to their earlier stuff. Seems the "sound" is there but, lacks much "oompf". Yeah.... all about the "sex, drugs, and R&R but, when it starts affecting livelihood, it's time for a breather.

Yeah.... Not diggin this much. Myself, I cut some slack as, they've been thru some crazy chit! Lineup changes, drug & alcohol issues, etc. Just don't have the "spark" of what like, Californication, has. Don't necessarily agree it's time to hang it up but, perhaps they should collectively take a look at what past recordings and, the NUMBERS, have to say about some of their earlier stuff. IMHO, of course!

So-so, at best. Would like to hear full album but, what Bill/RP has shared offa this album, seems the lineup shuffle these guys have gone thru, seems to have lost a good bit of the "spark" that say, Californication, has! Yes, Black Summer sounds ok. And, I really like RHCP! Was kinda bummed to hear what I have.

Apparently, Kiedis put on that quasi-"Gaelic" accent as a tribute to Welsh singer-songwriter Cate Le Bon, for some reason.

It seems to me that too many people judge bands by the weakest part of their oeuvre. I personally don't care if later material doesn't stand up - I'll still enjoy Blood Sugar Sex Magik and Californication just as much as I did in the '90s. Ditto for REM, Pearl Jam, etc.

fwiw John F rejoined the band in late 2019 and was with them for the writing/recording (and soon touring) of this new album.
