When we look back at it all,
As I know we will
You and me, wide-eyed
I wonder will we really remember
How it feels to be this alive
And I know we have to go
I realise
We only get to stay so long
We always have to go back to real lives
Where we belong
Where we belong
Where we belong
When we think back to all this
And I'm sure we will
Me and you, here and now
Will we forget the way
It really is
Why it feels like this
And how?
And we always have to go
I realise
We always have to say goodbye
Always have to go back to real lives
But real lives are the reason why
We want to live another life
We want to feel another time
Another time
Another time
To feel another time
When we look back at it all
As I know we will
You and me, wide-eyed
I wonder will we really remember
How it feels to be this alive
And I know we have to go
I realise
We always have to turn away
Always have to go back to real lives
But real lives are why we stay
For another dream, another day
For another world, another way
For another way
One last time before it's over
One last time before the end
One last time before it's time to go again
As I know we will
You and me, wide-eyed
I wonder will we really remember
How it feels to be this alive
And I know we have to go
I realise

Haven't heard this in a while. It used to be in the rotation a lot. I do like it.
Thank you to RP for opening my ears to the cure. This song was the key!
Sublime.

This entire LP is amazing
I do love The Cure, one of my favourite bands, but this one just draaaaags. It could do with being a couple of minutes shorter. Interesting inclusion on RP when there are so many better tracks that barely see the light of day.
I so love this - 9 to 10
The words, the way they are sung, the tempo, the dreaminess, the melody, everything works together to make a beautiful melancholy.

Yes. The sound of the guitar playing the occasional backing licks sound like some of the guitar sounds on Disintegration, but even if parts of the melody sound similar, the chord progression is very different from that of "Pictures of You".
Every artist sounds like themselves if they have any sort of coherent style (not that coherent style is everything - consider Madonna or David Bowie being masters of reinvention, but I digress).
I'd agree that this song does sound a bit like a track that could have been on Disintegration, but it really does not sound like a rehash of Pictures of You unless maybe that's the only other Cure song you'd heard, in which case I could understand the confusion....

A friend of mine was a cure fan and somehow it grew on me. Not one of my favorites but gave it a 7.
no cure no pay
Only a 5 from me

LMAO!
Edit: (I gave it a 4 but certainly won't argue with a 3, given my "rating system.")
First listen:
Started out pretty good. Interesting.
Then the vocals came in. Deduct one point.
By the second verse I am thinking "this would have made a nice instrumental!" Deduct another point.
By the end, its just dragging on dreadfully long for me, deduct another point.
That brings me to a 3. But good news, that makes it probably my highest rated song ever by the Cure.
Second listen, exact duplicate response. Confirmed 3. This would indeed make a good instrumental.

How in the hell did I give this a 4 the first time I heard it? Must have been hungover. Just moved up to 7 (by Cure song standards).
Mental. And Perfect. 10 from me. I love The Cure.

Everytime I hear The Cure I appreciate them more. Also thankful for the person who dragged me to see them in 1986.
Meh.
Amazing tune! The whole Bloodflowers was great, happy times.

Perrrrrfect......such a lovely and yet intense tune...
I love The Cure!!!
This album was a step in the right direction after the awful Wild Mood Swings, but I'm afraid they never recovered after losing Boris Williams.
c'est trop beau... et je pense à toi ...
Great song !!!
Top British band - amazing live
Like.... a lot..,
I always loved this song. . . and at last I just read the lyrics. . . which makes this lovely ditty a perfect 10.

Thom Yorke doesn't dream of being the Cure anymore than he dreams of being Boy George.
Disliking one creative and talented band (or singer) does not make your praise for another talented artist any greater.

Man, I never appreciated the Cure back "in the day" - this is a great song!
A fine quality recording, very lively with a good sense of space.
..."Why So Serious?"
Live, still soooo awesome!!!
Saw them in Roskilde a few weeks ago.

Maybe this song sounds like "Pictures of You" because its meant to.
"The albums Pornography, Disintegration and Bloodflowers are inextricably linked in so many ways, and the realisation of this Trilogy show is one of the highlights of my time in The Cure." - Robert Smith
"Pictures of You" was on Disintegration and "Out of This World" is on Bloodflowers. Two different parts of the Trilogy.

All Cure reminded me of High School... and my first "real" girl friend.

I don't mind them borrowing from themselves to make this one, it has a completely different cadence and pace.
A sprawling, tuneless mess. And a ripoff of their own Pictures of You, besides. Why not play the original, which is so much better?

LOVE!!!
This is The Cure at their very, very best!
love this.
I like the sound painting in the piano line, especially that they made it wrap in 3d without sounding like a 4 year old is at the mixing board. It's subtle but effective.
I love this picture!

what i need here is a new rating between 9 and 10:
9 - Outstanding
9.5 - Out Of This World
10 - Godlike
(but there should be no inflation of 10's, so - rounded - it's a 9)

I so loved the Cure when they were young and fresh. Boys don't Cry, Faith, Seventeen Seconds, Pornography were such phenomenal albums : dark, moody, introspective.
Then they became masters of pop rock of the later eighties. What a complete turnoff.
I see bands as capsules of time. Echo and the Bunnymen are the same way. The early stuff was so energetic, their later albums were like doing exercises that they all knew : going through the motions.
Enjoy and love bands for their time in their glory.
On another note, there is a band I love that has gotten better with every album : Porcupine Tree! Guess that's why they call it progressive. It just keeps better and better.

Sounds like they're really tired and saying let's just do this and get it over with.
mandolin wrote:Really informative comment. Thanks, mandolin! I agree that the song does sound forced.
...i agree that most of their recent material sounds forced, like a band trying to play to the image of being the cure...that said, when i picked up the deluxe version of their most recent self-titled album, it included a videodisc featuring a few of their recording sessions - different, rawer versions from the final mixes on the album - and in the music of those videos, the magic was unquestionably still there...
...great stuff sadly not available in music-only format; it makes me wonder if the tired forced sound of their recent material is all a result of the production and mastering, rather than the source material...

Crunch, crunch, crunch.
The cure were so pure back then. Now, its seems very forced, as if they just came in from the rain and just don't have the energy, or the will, or the heart to put it out.
Not so much the "stupid" but I do agree.
That little "now playing" list has come in handy once again, allowing me to delay putting on the headphones until The Cure is moved safely downward...
