Get outta that bed, wash your face and hands
Get outta that bed, wash your face and hands
Well, you get in that kitchen, make some noise with the pots 'n pans

Way you wear those dresses, the sun comes shinin' through
Way you wear those dresses, the sun comes shinin' through
I can't believe my eyes, all that mess belongs to you

I believe to the soul you're the devil and now I know
I believe to the soul you're the devil and now I know
Well, the more I work, the faster my money goes

I said shake, rattle and roll, shake, rattle and roll
Shake, rattle and roll, shake, rattle and roll
Well, you won't do right to save your doggone soul
Alright

I'm like a one-eyed cat peepin' in a seafood store
I'm like a one-eyed cat peepin' in a seafood store
Well, I can look at you till you ain't no child no more

Shake shake, rattle and roll, shake shake, rattle and roll
Yeah yeah, rattle and roll, yeah yeah, rattle and roll
You won't do nothin' to save your doggone soul
Shake, rattle and roll roll roll roll

the actual lyrics are:

"I believe in my soul you're the devil in nylon hose"
Listen  to that crazy cat stuff.

You'll go crazy if you listen to it.

Doctors have proved it.

I've always loved Big Joe Turner! and I loved it and imagined him smiling in The Peace of The Light when Bob Dylan sang, in "High Water Risin',"
High water risin’—risin’ night and day
All the gold and silver are being stolen away
Big Joe Turner lookin’ east and west
From the dark room of his mind
He made it to Kansas City
Twelfth Street and Vine
Nothing standing there
High water everywhere...
and even if I hadn't known of old Big Joe Turner, I'd have been sure as heck to look him up after that! As it happens, HE WAS A PIONEER OF ROCK AND ROLL!

Never paid much attention to the lyrics before... this exchange had me chucking ;) Naughty!
From the pure bliss of Yo-Yo Ma and Alison Krauss to this... lovely transition
The only instance I can think of where the White Man's cover tops the original. Jerry Lee Lewis was the Killer.
<Well, I can look at you till you ain't no child no more >

At age 27, my grandfather saw a 14-year-old girl working in the field and said, "I'm going to marry her." And six years later he did. All that time looking at her until she "ain't no child no more."
Yes, woman. Out of the bed and into the kitchen. And YOU are the Devil.

One night I was layin' down
I heard mama and papa talkin'
I heard papa tell mama let that boy boogie-woogie
It's in him and it got to come out
And I felt so good
Went on boogiein' just the same

(John Lee Hooker "Boogie Chillun")

I really prefer this version!
Gotta give it a 10!
8 up to 9 today.

The real thing.
Authentic.

In 1956 I was a member of a record club at a Kent English School, absolutely ordinary, except we had the son of an American transplant in our Form and he had brought his small collection of 45's, one of which was this amazing piece of music.

I repeat, amazing.

Makes me chuckle every time. {#Bananajumprope}
This is one of my all time favorite songs - this version too.  Don't care where I am when it comes on, I be dancin!!  {#Roflol}
Rock n Roll Building Blocks...Good play, sir!

Kansas City's finest!

I LOVE this song!!  {#Daisy}
A true classic.

And for anyone that likes NRBQ, this song was always a stomping part of their setlist.  Good Times!
I rarely find cause to compare originals and covers, but...this one really puts the Bill Haley cover to shame. Haley still gets full "there at the beginning" props for "Crazy, Man, Crazy" and "Rock Around the Clock."
Kansas City was where it's at in those days.
Musically,we suck now.
Tracks laid down at the Beginning.  "A one-eyed cat, peepin' in a seafood store".  Lyrics don't get no bettter'n that.
Big Joe Turner is always a Big Thumbs UP!!
I sing the opening verse to my wife all the time.

Well, guess you had to start somewhere.  Had to leave the old folks fretting about the moral decline of the nation.  {#Bananapiano}

Doggone diggin' it! Woooooooo-EE! Shake it, baby! Turn it up to 11 and wiggle yo' ass! A solid gold celebration of what it means to be alive!
My first time to attend N.O. Jazz Fest, I heard Big Joe do "night time is the right time" (or whatever it's called), and just fell in love with his style. I've been a fan ever since.
Boogie Woogie Country Girl is my favorite of his... I bounce around like an idiot (and embarrass my daughters quite a bit) when that comes on Its just such a great tune
Bedrock baby. R&R genesis 101
Flip, flop, fly--I don't care if I die.
Cool
How could this possibly be anything but a rock solid 10? Smokin'!
Absolutely Awesome!!! Another RP triumph!!!!!!
OMG (wow I think I am a pre-pubesent girl) but seriously this is exactly what I wanted to hear!

It looks like he was the first one to record it. Mournful? Dismal? I'd hardly call Big Joe Turner either of those lugubrious terms. That is a big word, though...

This is the original "Shake Rattle and Roll" song that was issued before R & B was accepted by the mass media. Then, Bill Haley and the Comets took this song and (along with Rock Around the Clock) used it to introduce Rock and Roll to American teens. I always thought that the Joe Turner version was better. Thanks Radio Paradise for going back to the original sources of our classic songs. Maybe you could play Ma Thornton's version of "Hound Dog" that later propelled Elvis to stardom.
Of course Haley also, er, "cleaned up" the lyrics. For a comparison (click here)

Not at all. This song is sublime - driving beat, killer piano, lyrics and all. Excuse me, I have to go shake, rattle and roll now.
