Rhiannon rings like a bell through the night
And wouldn't you love to love her?
Takes to the sky like a bird in flight
And who will be her lover?
All your life you've never seen
A woman taken by the wind
Would you stay if she promised you heaven?
Will you ever win?
She is like a cat in the dark
And then she is the darkness
She rules her life like a fine skylark
And when the sky is starless
All your life you've never seen
A woman taken by the wind
Would you stay if she promised you heaven?
Will you ever win?

Goodbye Christine...Thank you for the music...
Mick and John just own this. Perfect time signature to frame Stevie's exquisite vocals.
Good Tune!

For me, the classic line-up of Fleetwood Mac you pour scorn on: Fleetwood, the McVie's, Nicks and Buckingham, will go to posterity as THE Fleetwood Mac. Showcase for Mick Fleetwood. Timekeeper extraordinaire.
Now that I don't have this song foisted on me every ten minutes, I've got back to liking it again. It's a damn good song.
Odd that I haven't commented on this 10-rated track yet....having met a gal named Rhiannon at a park way back in my early 20s, and scoring points for knowing (and having available to play) the song, and the deeper meaning...well....yeah....LLRP!!
Tho great, the 1976 live version is the one true version of this song.

When I hear these songs I'm instantly jetted back to a great group of friends who loved to party and enjoy life. We never sat still, and the FM music of the time helped carry us through many great times. None of us really cared who was in the band, and we had great parties!
This was the first time that I have ever used the PSD feature of RadioParadise! God do I HATE what nicks and buckingham did to the once excellent band known as Fleetwood Mac. There were about a dozen excellent albums from Fleetwood mac before those two destroyed the band.
I remember when Fleetwood Mac was known as the best white boy Blues band from England and Peter Green one of the very best guitarist of all times back then!
Bill, why play commercial crap like this?
Oh wow! So does this mean that as long as I keep streaming now, I'll be one song ahead of the website?

Whatever, dude. I can't think of another band in history that changed personnel as frequently as Fleetwood Mac.
So every single lineup was great until Buckingham/Nicks came along and "destroyed the band"? Oh, Puh-leez.
Glad you figured out PSD.
So, the rest of the members of FM were victims of Nicks and Buckingham?! I don't buy it. Band members change, bands change, instruments, styles and PEOPLE change. Some people like change and some don't. Some (like me) just think of it as different and appreciate each for what it is. Your labeling things "commercial crap" or whatever is immaterial. We get it, you don't like it so get over it and move on.

No one made music like Fleetwood Mac. They didn't fit in a particular genre of rock. They imitated no one.
But most unusual, no one imitated them. I can't think of anyone else to put in the same category.

Yes, we did, at least in my young engineering universe. That was THE snare you wanted for rock. It *was* new, at least to those who cared about such things and gave rise to the excess (of which I am still subject to) of taking forever to get a drum sound. Miking individual drums was not new, nor were good snare sounds, but Keith Olsen's was just epic in some way; we figured out that the midrange might have been pulled out at a specific frequency, or that was one theory. Of course, that was not the whole story; a drum sound is complex and relies on drummers, drum heads, tuning, drum sets, mics, and on and on. I've never analyzed why we wanted it, just took it as gospel, and it was the fad of the 70s (and long since), but you have me thinking now why it gave such pleasure to us and was the gold standard in those years. If you couldn't approximate that sound, you felt as if your career was doomed. I think the jazz crowd had a much easier and less naval-gazing time of it! I guess a lot of it was following Alan Parsons' careful isolations, removing the room from the equation, and then adding an 'environment' back in. Or something like that...but great topic!
I never knew it until fairly recently, but apparently this snare sound is lusted after by a lot of drummers and recording engineers both. I don't know if they pioneered this sound but I definitely notice it now and I've been occasionally noticing when people are trying to emulate it. I like it a lot too — splat!

I remember rocking out to Fleetwood in my parents basement while lifting weights using Arnold's Guide to Bodybuilding. Thinking about it also reminds me of the Commodore 64 in the corner and online discussion bulletin boards (often dominated by Trekies). Sounds like an odd convergence, but totally ordinary in the mid-to-late 80s. And at the center of my musical world at the time (calling me out of the self-absorbing doldrums of teenage angst) was Stevie.
The one that started it all—for that version of the band. The first time I heard it, I was blow away. Blown completely away when I learned it was Fleetwood Mac.
it seems almost unfair to play stevie nicks so close to tori amos. but youve either got it or you dont.

I may have said this before about a song or two, but there are a small number of songs (perhaps not THAT small, but small in relation to the total size of the playlist on RP) that, while they perhaps ARE way overplayed commercially in the world 'out there', are still wonderful, excellent tunes by great artists of one stripe or another. This (and many, many songs by Fleetwood Mac), to me, fall into this category. Additionally, I think that occasionally playing a song like this on RP actually serves to enhance a tune that might have been otherwise considered dull or ordinary, overplayed and milquetoast if heard on the freeway or while taking the kids to school on FM-schlock radio. If a song like Rhiannon had never made it big commercially, most of the 'tuned in' world would consider it an exceptional, wonderful song, the more special also for not being so over commercialized and exposed. The music is still great, and RP dusts it's music off like a little gem to show off, even the Hope Diamonds that everyone has seen. Just a thought.

What piano is it, you're playing on?
Steinway in acryl?
Or an old PC with piano-function?
I will not die, before I have seen your Hotel-room,
and met any of your imaginairy friend,
Romeo - will you please change your avatar?
I want to think about good things, when seeing you writing,
not about a nightmare-in-disguise!

Stevie Nicks used to be so hot.
Quelle merde....
Having been born unto the mid 80s, my first exposure to FM was through the parents' record collections! (I was transfixed by the cover for Tango in the Night...) This track always makes me turn the stereo up. This time around was no exception! Always a delight for me to hear a Mac track played on RP. 8/10,

I can't agree with you about "Rhiannon" being overplayed though — maybe it's overplayed in the U.S., but not here (here the overplayed-to-death ones are "Little Lies," "Everywhere," "Seven Wonders," and, to a lesser extent, "Go Your Own Way"). Remember that RP has listeners all over the world.
By the way, I've uploaded "Sisters of the Moon" a few days ago - it's currently under review on the LRC (shame it wasn't insta-added).
Good point, domine-astronomy - the world does NOT revolve around me. The other Mac songs you mention are also pretty mainstream. Still, I can listen to "Go Your Own Way" without diving for the volume control. I hope "Sisters..." makes it onto the playlist. And I'd still love to hear "Fall From Grace" here... *wistful sigh*

thumbs down on this one....FM's catalog is much too broad and diverse to make us suffer thru this track.

There are the "this song is commercially overplayed rules" and then there are exceptions: for me this is an exception. . .

I really love Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks, but I feel this song really IS overplayed - on ClearChannel, every AM radio station to which I have access, and most of the FM stations. To hear it at the one place where I hide from commercialism, it's a bit of a disappointment. Still - it's Fleetwood Mac, and is still compelling, even after all this time. I wish someone would upload "Sisters of the Moon" off the Tusk CD, or "Fall From Grace" from Stevie's "Trouble In Shangri-La" CD (my personal favorite of hers.) I'd do it, but I gave the CD to my radio music programmer friend, and I have no idea what happened to it after he left...

One those songs I wish I could of witnessed the recording of...just perfect.
That was definitely a rough transition. Two great songs, though.

Hello RP-Listeners!
I wish all of you "MERRY CHRISTMAS",
wherever you are - whoever you wanna be!
Christmas is a sweet-naive tradition -
not a religious event!
I like it anyway!
Still - I hope Bill takes the chance
to rock the christmas-tree to pieces tonight!
"Happy Christmas
your "BAD SANTA",
aka STINGRAY
-from Cologne/Germany-
PS
Sermon of the day (promise: I'm serious):
The "Three Wise Men" - Melchior, Balthasar + Caspar
are buried in a golden sarcophage in"our" dome, the famous
"Cologne dome" - the third highest church-building
in the world - right in the very centre of town, next to the Rhine.
A gothic building of extra-class!

one of my favorite songs of all-time and I'm enjoying it after Mazzy Star but that's the kind of mood I'm in, I guess.
Following Mazzy Star with this is really bumming me out.

If you're gonna play Fleetwood Mac, why oh why not play one of the songs featuring the lovely vocals of Christine McVie, or early songs w/Jeremy Spencer instead of highly over rated Stevie Nicks???
