You really had a million hearts to break
All those times I never left you in the moonlight
How come there's always someone else driving your car
Taking you different places, in the sunlight

Still cold like the stars
That's just the way you are
Still cold like the stars

You used to say your heart felt like a stone
Now everything you ever wanted is your own
Still cold like the stars
That's just the way you are
Still cold like the stars

I saw them perform in 1989-ish. I have never witnessed a more profound stage fright than Hope Sandoval! Great music & she worked her way through it. But boy, she really didn't want to be up there on stage. Perhaps she has gotten over it...

generally someone's gf needed an excuse to sit in with the band

initially thought this was an acoustic American Dreaming
This is mellow ?

I always tell people "Look on Down From The Bridge" will be on my suicide tape.
I'm still cold listening to this.  I heard the other band members got together and thought it would be nice if she could mix it up a little and sing like Ethel Merman.
They haven't told her yet.
Outro guitar - maybe a bit like Clapton’s White Room?.  Which I love
If you listen carefully to all of Hope Sandoval's records, both Solo and with Mazzy Star, she is a sublime way to spend the evening listening to her trance-like whispers.

Désolé!

Not much Mazzy Star that is not an easy "8" for me.
Sitting here working with RP in the background, thought for sure this was a 60's Airplane song I'd never heard...

The exact line is "I am not drinking any f*cking merlot!".
Merlot
The outro to this song has some similarities for me (albeit slowed down) to the intro of Love Song by The Dandy Warhols .

Im Geiste von Velvet Underground. Zeitlos schön.

UBlock Origin.  Right click on image, block it.  If you get creative you can even block entire websites people are using for the images.
Does Hope ever sound like she's into anything?  I have the feeling that she would still sound like this in the deepest throws of passion...yes, like that, slowly...very slowly...pretend you are dead, that's right baby...oh, you are so good...

feeling this one; particularly the guitar solo.  surprised to see Mazzy Star as the artist.
I'm sorry..but is there any music more dull and uninspired than Mazzy Star?
More than a feeling ...
I was rather indifferent to this band prior to Dave Roback's death. I decided to download and album and quickly realized I was missing out on some incredible work. Very talented indeed.
Note: it's not flat, it's "trailing portamento"!
Thanks for the song

Ahhhh...more Hope Sandoval, my boyhood crush.
ALL of their music is compelling for me.  From this album to today.

Great moody song gets its 'once a year' play.
this is still awesome.
wow, a year since  last comment... go Mazzy! <3

Everybody in my church loves this sexy song...

I seem to be liking the tunes by Mazzy Star that I hear on RP.

Flying carp are invasive.  Tambourines are just instruments.

I guess we all hear different things.  The tambourine sounds fine to me and I find her singing style to be consistent the nature of the song's tempo and lyrics (and not terribly off-key).  I really wouldn't want to hear Ethel Merman belting out a song like this, regardless of her enthusiasm or pitch.

It's so interesting, I've never heard this song but knew it was Mazzy, and wondered if she came out with a new album!  So I looked and it's from 1996, that's a very long time ago, and the song sounds as fresh as anything else on the radio!  That's why I will always be a Mazzy Star fan!

Never heard the song, but I'd like to hear it again if for no other reason than for that "outro"...incongruent in a pleasing sort of way.

...these second two mazzy star albums were just masterworks, genuinely inspired timeless sincerity...
Love the Mazz

Puts me to sleep.

For some reason, the tambourine is invasive. And she's singing off-key. It's not like a lazy-sexy off-key, but more a bored, don't-give-a-crap off-key. I like Mazzy Star, but this song doesn't impress me.

always lovely.
I'm a fan and i like this song a lot but every time i hear Mazzy Star i just have to listen to fade into you right afterwards.  But then its never a bad thing to be reminded to go back and play yourself a classic.

so Hope Sandoval (aka Mazzy Star) is playing a show at the Paradise Rock Club in Boston... and the crowd is getting restless... it is a very dimly lit show (at the artist's request) and a lot of people were there to see Hope b/c they heard she was cute... not a shadow on stage.. so a bit into the show a quiet crowd started chit-chatting, drinking at the bar and what-not. Mazzy stopped the show and started complaining about the crowd being too loud. Someone shouted out "We love you Hope!" to which she replied:

"I don't need you to love me. I need you to SHUT THE F**K UP!"

Amazingly bizarre moment out of all the live shows I've worked/seen. Almost the whole crowd turned on her.

She was very apologetic after the show and is a TOTAL SWEETHEART in person.

Just an off night I guess.

She apparently has been to too many Jonathan Richman shows and thinks this is the way to do it.

Why merlot? If ya gonna top yer self why not a decent wine with a bit o' grunt like shiraz, grenache, petite verdot. Drinking one of those ya might even change ya mind!
Bill has the ultimate job. But then, he doesn't get many vacations... :-)
In my next life I want Bill's job: playing my record collection all day long for a living. Either that or pro golf, but I've gotta correct that nasty slice...
hypnotic voice...very nice
...sublime albums, this and the one before, both...

I loved the first one and then liked their follow-up even more. AMS is great, too. And this is a real nice song.

Ooo. I can sing every note flat, too. I could be a star!

Merlot a bit alcoholy tasting, though it was the rage a few years ago like Pinot is now.

Yeup.
Hope's voice is one of my favorites...not their best effort, but enjoyable nonetheless.
Nice! Groovy guitar work... Solid 8.
always loved this one...her voice is so haunting and sexy in a ghostly kind of way...
That Was Beautiful
Saw these guys in New York in the mid nineties. Hope Sandoval radiated sexuality and ennui. They opened for The Jesus and Mary Chain but they blew them away.
Very Cool song

Mazzy Star has done some good stuff. This ain't it.

Very likable song.
Mazzy Star - a seriously underrated band. Hope's voice - ooh la la.
Now this is a band I sure wish would reunite & tour. Love them, Hope Sandoval solo is pretty good, but there is something about Mazzy Star that is most excellent.

You keep playing where you shouldn't be playing And you keep thinking that you'll never get burnt (HAH) Well, I've just found me a brand new box of matches And what he knows you ain't had time to learn These boots are made for walking, and that's just what they'll do One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you
I'm kind of done with this band... :-k

Nice song, Realy fights with the compression (as in compressor effect rather than codec) on the 48k stream though :/
This reminds me of Gentleman Caller from Chicago. I love it.

Yeah, it does have a \"Surrealistic Pillow\" sort of feel, doesn\'t it? As for her voice and delivery, well, one man\'s \"creepy\" is another man\'s \"haunting\". Thanks (again) for broadening my horizons, Bill.
Sorry, I just don't like this band. :( Her voice is so creepy, it grates on my nerves.
Sound more like Jefferson Airplane to me.

Just when I thought Mazzy Star was incredibly boring and repetitive, I hear this song that redeems them in my mind. Perhaps it\'s the electric guitars and drums that catch my ear.
