Well, my pad is very messy
And there's whiskers on my chin
And I'm all hung up on music
And I always play to win
I ain't got no time for lovin'
'Cause my time is all used up
Just to sit around creatin'
All that groovy kind of stuff
But I'm a man
Yes, I am
And I can't help
But love you so
I'm a man
Yes, I am
And I can't help
But love you so
Well, if I had my choice of matter
I would rather be with cats
All engrossed in mental chatter
Moving where our minds are at
And relating to each other
Just how strong our wills can be
I'm resisting all involvement
With each groovy chick we see
I'm a man
Yes, I am
And I can't help
But love you so
I'm a man
Yes, I am
And I can't help
But love you so
I got to keep my image
While suspended from a throne
That looks out upon a kingdom
Full of people all unknown
Who imagine I'm not human
And my heart is made of stone
And I never had no problems
And my toilet's trimmed with chrome
I'm a man
Yes, I am
And I can't help
But love you so
I'm a man
Yes, I am

A measly 5 shillings you say? Ol' Mick n' Keef n' the boys sure learned about inflation pretty fast, hmm?
First band I ever saw live, back in 1964. In those day you got several bands on the bill, and the support that night were The Small Faces. Saw the Stones the week after in Sheffield for 5 shillings ( 25p - about 42 US cents) still got the ticket.

I thought that this song was made by Chicago, but now I know better.

Great song from Winwood's first group. Pretty sure he was still a teen when he sang for them.

This classic is soooo good for the ears...
Yeah baby!
Volum up. More Winwood, more Traffic please.
Sounds very fresh today. Great stuff.
good find(Stevie W) Mr Spencer Davis.
Great song - however, I also love the Chicago Transit Authority version a bit better.
What still blows my mind is that Winwood was a teenager when this was released!!

I feel lucky and blessed that I had such fine CRANKING, SOULFUL music in the background of my early days... Seems to me that every time this (or the even more astounding Chicago version) came on a radio or playback device, everyone stopped whatever they were doing, gave praise, and commenced to dancing and hammering on whatever was nearby...not many songs like THAT!
I totally praise RP for keeping the vibe alive!

Made me rock as a kid and makes me rock as a MAN

Gotta agree. Both great, but CTA was ROCKIN!
Love this song and this version but Chicago actually did a great version of this as well on their first album, Chicago Transit Authority.

Well, yeah, except that Winwood wrote and arranged the original, which Chicago adapted very well. Agree, tho', that Chicago burned it up.
