Tides that I tried to swim against
Have brought me down upon my knees
Oh, I beg, I beg and plead, singing
Come out of things unsaid
Shoot an apple off my head, and a
Trouble that can't be named
A tiger's waiting to be tamed, singing
You are
You are
Confusion never stops
Closing walls and ticking clocks, gonna
Come back and take you home
I could not stop that you now know, singing
Come out upon my seas
Curse missed opportunities, am I
A part of the cure
Or am I part of the disease? Singing
You are
You are
You are
You are
You are
You are
And nothing else compares
Oh, nothing else compares
And nothing else compares
You are
You are
Home, home, where I wanted to go

In 2004 my stepfather passed away unexpectedly. My only sibling, my brother, was in prison at the time for a drug addiction situation. He obtained compassionate release to attend the funeral with a strict admonition to return at a certain date/time after the ceremony. When I had to take him back it was all predictably sad and horrible and we were running late. I was driving like a frenzied maniac so that he wouldn't suffer further punishment, and THIS song, Clocks by Coldplay came on, and my brother had never heard it and he looked over at me with a grin on his face and said, "Did he just sing 'a tiger's waiting to be tamed'?" And I was like, "yup, this song is awesome, right?" My brother had the sould of a poet and had a soft spot for unique lyrics. He mainly listened to punk rock, but this song spoke to him somehow. We listened to it on repeat the rest of the way there and he was so happy. For that moment we both were. It was magical.
My brother died a month ago. We played Clocks at his memorial. The thing is, don't want to cry when this song plays; I just want to grin and remember his joy at hearing it for the first time. Today, I'm crying anyway, but next time I hear it I'll probably feel that joy again. I hope.
Thank you for sharing this. It is good to be reminded that humans are at times pretty awesome.
"if you don't love this song, its because youre an idiot"
Wouldn't be the first time that a person that I don't know calls me that. This song is nails on the chalkboard to me, whiny & repetive, but hey I'm glad you like it.
If you don't love this song it's because you are an idiot. I know this because I love it, and I'm not an idiot.
Recognize this type of comment? It's usually written in reverse, and is sometimes dressed up to try and disguise the writer as a sage individual. That, it rarely does.
I do love this song, but only because it appeals to me. . . and I have no expectation that others should feel the same way.
PS - I don't "think" I'm a musical idiot. . . but since this thought emanates from my own brain, there is no way for me to prove or disprove it.
Go with your flow..

Bless your heart our friend for sharing that.

No, blame it on Yoko Ono
It has an overall rating of 7.5, so it seemingly appeals to most of the listeners here - most of whom probably like music as well. One person's "banal dreck" can be another's treasure. However, it would be an interesting undertaking to try to make music which appeals to "people who don't like music".
I would agree If Coldplay actually wrote this song. They didn't. Another band did. Litigation followed.
Totally agree the first two albums were awesome. I blame the mediocrity on Gwyneth Paltrow
No, blame it on Yoko Ono
The people who hate this had music lessons.
Keep your elitist gatekeeping shitty reasons to yourself.
Great song, I wonder who it is?
Oh shit, it's Coldplay; I'd better pretend I don't like it so people will think I'm cool.

I love the sound of coldplay and I think they have evolved from slow and sad, to joy and light...
I can easily understand that some people don't like it but say it's not music!!! They are ultra musical and harmonious, but it all depends on everyone's tastes...
Personally I listen to a lot of metal, rock, jazz, classical, trance... But Coldplay has a special place in my playlist! Long live them! and RP of course! Thanks again B&B
2022...damn, this smells off...

Well said. I like Coldplay. They're good.
9 / 10!

Never has a band benefitted so much from great producers.
Have you used Motion Amplification video processing method to achieve this effect?

"Is Coldplay - Clocks in a weird time signature. It sounds almost like 3+3+2/8. It does fit into standard 4/4 time, however 3+3+2/8 just seems to fit nicer. I think I read somewhere that it is actually in that time signature. Some classical composers have used this time signature also. I do enjoy listening to music in unusual time signatures.
3+ 3 +2/8 is a bizarre time. "
Yup a solid 10 just for having and successfully creating a song wiht a, Dave Brubeck like , "F" word bizarre time signature.

where this crxp band started, why couldn't they have finished there too?
I believe this is one example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drill_%27n%27_bass
Have at this playlist if you have a very open mind about what can even be called music!

Agreed. 9 for me too.
There are also people who don't think its fair that your band is as successful as it is. But what does "fair" have to do with you? You're Chris Martin, and you don't make apologies for being a bright, shining light.
I must admit, I saw him once (on TV) do a live thing for Apple where he sang solo on the piano. And even though I am a ladies man through and through, what I felt that moment was what you could call a man crush. That guy is so effin good looking, has such a nice, but not at all bland, personality and is just so much like how I secretly want to see myself, it is crushing, really. Some people really have it all, *and* deserve it.
Of course, I have no idea how much of that stage image is true for the person behind the curtains, but I like to believe it's all true. And I sincerely hope it is all working out nicely for him. Fame is a curse as much as a blessing.
Agree - great at first, sadly they've descended into mediocrity
Yep another agreement from me. The first two albums were something special, then it all went a bit 'meh', and has remained so ever since.

The listeners of this "amazing station" don't share your strident (unsupported) opinion
Guess who is out of step ...?
You responded to the wrong comment. I assume from your quoting the phrase "amazing station", that you were responding to the post from a different listener, from about two years ago, which used that very same phrase; see below:

How about a "zero" rating option? I can't believe that an amazing station such as RP continues to play this banal dreck. Seriously, this "band" is an affront; it exists to appeal to people who don't like music.
If you read my comment you'd see that I expressed no opinion: "strident", "unsupported", or otherwise about this song.

Spears never had any luster (her music anyway) though I'm sure her music has a special place in your world.
I think you may have missed Proclivities' point.

I'm with you on that ! Much-improved version / mash up. Love that whole album....
Plus the nicely syncopated rhythm: bass and drums playing off each other and the keyboard and guitar cycling over it all with alternating rests in each. Makes for a really interesting texture. Decent lyrics too.
Obviously. Has the "Britney-Spears-fan" accusation finally lost its luster?

love this comment!! makes me feel that way, too
You're obviously a Kanye West lover.

I have zero interest in having sex with boys. (Sorry boys.)
But I think Coldplay rocks.
I also like Abba and Motown.

Cross-checked into the boards!

OK. I rate your comment a ZERO.
Oh shit, it's Coldplay; I'd better pretend I don't like it so people will think I'm cool.
Well 1-2 tracks are decent.
Not this song, no no.
If you like it: peace
The word I would choose to use is bliss, actually.

It's your personal opinion. I love music and I like Coldplay
So do I, even it is the soundtrack of my divorce!! Could not listen to it for a long while, but now I can again!
Hello to Galicia! Been there! It is beautiful!

LOL!
I have it rated a 9. So lump me in with the Coldplay nerds.

"Coldplay" is corporately produced pablum engineered to appeal to the vulgarian masses. I can't believe that this bland drivel gets so much airplay on an otherwise outstanding station like RP.
Completely true.
Bill. I will pay you to stop playing this
Well, since it's completely true...
I look at the painting.
I read the words.
I don't give a shit who created it or what other people think of it.
I like what I like.
