Birds singin' in the sycamore trees
Dream a little dream of me

Say "Night-ie night" and kiss me
Just hold me tight and tell me you'll miss me
While I'm alone and blue as can be
Dream a little dream of me

Stars fading but I linger on, dear
Still craving your kiss
I'm longing to linger 'til dawn, dear
Just saying this

Sweet dreams 'til sunbeams find you
Sweet dreams that leave all worries behind you
But in your dreams, whatever they be
Dream a little dream of me

Stars fading but I linger on, dear
Still craving your kiss
I'm longing to linger 'til dawn, dear
Just saying this

Sweet dreams 'til sunbeams find you
Sweet dreams that leave all worries behind you

spectacular.
I wonder if k.d. Lang ever covered this? Bet she could belt it out.
Yeah...

Its a mortal pity that these people didn't last longer. My family [on one side] was from the Nova Scotia. They knew Denny.

Seems like a good time as any to put the ham sandwich myth to rest.

From Wikipedia:
An oft-repeated urban legend is that Elliot choked to death on a ham sandwich. The story spread soon after the discovery of her body and was based on speculation in the initial media coverage. A 2014 article in Haaretz identified the person who started the false rumor as follows: "Unfortunately, the first doctor [in London] who examined her speculated to the press about the cause of death, and that's the version that stuck." An autopsy had not been performed when the physician was quoted, and the Metropolitan Police told reporters that a partially eaten sandwich found in her room might have been relevant to the cause of death. When Keith Simpson performed the autopsy, he determined that Elliot had died of heart failure, and that no food was present in her windpipe.

And now you know... the rest of the story. Good day?

What ARE you talking about?  Are you commenting on a different record?
My winds harmonize well with it.
Don't ya all wish for just two minutes, you could sing/harmonize like this?

Or even the whistling.  Ha!
Interesting the album cover title has Papas first, but I've only heard the band name with the Mamas first.

Just a beautiful classic song. 10/10.

I started to dream of a ham sandwich and realized...
The most beautiful tremolo on earth. Just perfect.
Mama Cass.... She's always been underrated compared to the other great female vocalists of the 1960s.  I was guilty of this, as well.... But after watching the two-part documentary on Laurel Canyon (NOT the one with Jakob Dylan) I emerged with so much admiration and respect for all Cass Elliot brought to the music, and to the scene. What a goddess.
Great track, something for everyone in this tune! 8/10 👌

I believe I've heard a version by Diane Schuur.

According to Wiki, is was a Cass Elliot solo. It was released in the US as TM&TP, but everywhere else it was released as Cass solo. Interestingly, the song was first recorded in 1931 by none other than Ozzie Nelson's band (Ozzie and Harriet, father of Rick) with Nelson on vocals. Bloody song's 83 years old--a lot to be said for any song with that kind of staying power.

One of my all-time favorite voices, on the song that I think shows off her voice the best. Just dreamy all the way 'round.
Hi-Fidelity Stereophonics on the monitors oh yeah...
There's a special place in my heart for all things Ms&Ps. When I was in grade school, theirs (and Simon & Garfunkel's) were the only hip records my mother had. I remember jumping up and down on the couch in onesie pajamas to the Ms&Ps with my best friend from down the block.

Ummmm.  It's a little startling to realize that the children of these people are now adults with children of their own.

OK, well, ... it's startling to me, anyway.

not one of their better efforts. Give us Twelve Thirty!
Wow... I can still recall this song and the magical summer nights from that year...the breeze coming through the windows and down the hall, Dad snoring on the sofa with the TV on, and Mom calling to my brother and I to put the Hot Wheels away, turn off the radio, and go to bed. We'd always leave the radio playing until she'd come in to turn it off, though!
gives voice to all that was good and optimistic in my childhood.

In 1991, I was in Berlin, and a commercial kept showing up every time I went to see a movie.
I hated the commercial itself, showing rich young people who spent their time being happy, wearing great (if expensive) clothes and Ray Bans and driving priceless vintage cars... and since the day it ocured to me that I couldn't remember the product, it hasn't come back to me{#Eek}
The point is, the commercial was set to Dream a little dream, of course. I had never heard the song before. It went straight to my heart.
It took me a painful week or two until I found someone who knew the commercial and the music they chose for it.

I'm just... really happy that this song exists, in this version obviously.
aclassic tune
loves an appropriate honky tonkish piano.
Classic!
What a beautiful voice she had.

This is a nice song, but she always makes me think of ham sandwiches... {#Chef}
The best.

An effortless classic.

What a pleasure to hear such historical vocaling in these autotune times...

I was watching the Beatles on stage from about 1963 yesterday, and they were really energetically playing and belting it out and I thought: the difference is that real talent had to slug it out to become known whereas now the music companies simply push product and hope it sells. Talent isn't necessary - just attractiveness to get someone to purchase.

Then there's a breath of fresh air like this, or Glen Campbell, and you remember (if you were there) that we were in the presence of greatness.

um, hate to tell you, but that's not what happened - you probably shouldn't look up the real story.

And for those of you who don't know, she sang a similar ballad for Monte Walsh, a 1970 semi-classic Western starring Lee Marvin and Jeanne Moreau, directed by William Fraker, a Class A cinematographer of the 60s - 80s.

This is a fine song, but now a bit dated (music, and the movie soundtrack, by the late, great John Barry)

Long a sentimental favorite of mine. Takes me right back to high school . . .

one of my first real bands. i remember jumping up and down on my parents' couch with my best friend, dressed in our pajama onesies, listening to mamas & papas, the hippest record my mom had.

Indeed!
That's one sweet tune. Thanks!
There's just something so simple and pure about this. It walks the line of being cheesy but never crosses over.
Where's the fickin' eleven? I want an eleven.{#Bananapiano}
Nice song. {#Daisy}
What a pleasure to hear such historical vocaling in these autotune times...
i adore this! thank you!
Nicely done...Sorry I missed your birthday anniv. last Friday, Mama C., but I'm always California Dreaming.
Oh, my wedding song. Nice.

Apparently that's a myth. No food was found in her windpipe post mortem. Cass did die ('74) in the same flat that Keith Moon ('78) did, though.

Ninth!

Somehow it's just not the same.
Great addition, nice 1 Bill!
Oh - my very first cassette was Cass' solo album and this song alone stuck in my brain. I've loved this since I was a little tweenie!{#Music}
Such a sweet, delicate voice when she wanted it to be.
Man, what pipes. And leave it to John Phillips to pull this nugget out as a solo showcase for her.
This is fantastic!
Cass Elliot...your beautiful voice is still missed. The group was a wonderful offset in the late 60s. Denny and John you are missed too. Nice to hear this is opposed to the often 'California Dreamin'. The inner workings of this group were a real test of the human condition...with the unrequited love and such.

Anyone know where I can find a copy of their 2nd, The Mamas and the Papas? Doesn't seem to have been reissued on CD. LP is fine.
A game winning home run in the bottom of the 9th, that girl you've always liked saying yes to a date, the moon rising on a cool clear night, and this tune. It makes you feel right and good and happy.
A classic!
my parents only had country and big band/pop vocal albums with two exceptions: simon & garfunkel and the mamas and papas. this was my musical awakening at about 6 or 7 years old. i always feel all melty and groovy when I hear Ms&Ps, especially when it's not 'california dreamin' for the billionth time.
