It's quite possible that I'm your third man, girl
But it's a fact that I'm the seventh son
It's quite possible that I'm your third man, girl
But it's a fact that I'm the seventh son

And right now you could care less about me
But soon enough you will care, by the time I'm done

Let's have a ball and a biscuit, sugar
And take our sweet little time about it
Let's have a ball, girl
And take our sweet little time about it

Tell everybody in the place to just get out
We'll get clean together
And I'll find me a soapbox where I can shout it
Yeah

Read it in the newspaper
Ask your girlfriends and see if they know
Read it in the newspaper
Ask your girlfriends and see if they know

That my strength is ten-fold, girl
I'll let you see it if you want to before you go

Let's have a ball and a biscuit, sugar
And take our sweet little time about it
Let's have a ball
And take our sweet little time about it

Tell everybody in the place to just get out
We'll get clean together
And I'll find me a soapbox where I can shout it
And I can think of one or two things to say about it
Now listen

D'you get the point now?

It's quite possible that I'm your third man
But it's a fact that I'm the seventh son
It was the other two which made me your third
But it's my mother who made me the seventh son
And right now you could care less about me
But soon enough you will care by the time I'm done

Yeah, you're just right
You stick around
You'll figure it out

Y'all realize that this kind of fight has been going on since the advent of recorded music, right? I remember blowing up at a friend's mom about The Beatle's Sergeant Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Band. I was over at his house and she commented that it was so much noise.

I was always very respectful to adults but I cooked off at that lady for that.   But now I'm the old cuss who thinks much of today's music is crap.

I give this a 9 though. It fuzzes, rumbles, squeals and rocks.
i love love love this one. may be my fav of theirs.

I don't agree to your critics, but do for your post. Very funny! B. W., the Hippie

And besides the necessarily wet oceans, this track is subjectively quite happening and keen.  I thought I may have heard a few Hendrix-like notes in there.  Does that mean he's dis- or unqualified?

The first one.
I remember when I got this CD at a music store in Shinjuku... I'd heard Seven Nation Army here on RP, but this song took things to the next level! I was lucky and blessed to see them rock Shibuya AX. It was an incredible, incendiary show, and we all had fun! Jack's such a wizard!

Man, now I want to hear what they'd make on good acid.
Upping the volume is involuntary with this song.

Like we give a s**t
I remember jamming this so loud it pissed off all my new Tokyo neighbors...and then I had the good fortune of seeing Jack and Meg rock Shibuya Axe not long after. REAL RAW ROCK CELEBRATION!
Please, more from The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather, and solo Jack White.

This was my first ablum by them and I still love lilstening to it.
OK, but not their best tune. Maybe it will grow on me. I like a lot of their other stuff.
I think it’s just great!,,

What's the stance on spelling pollutiom?
I'm thinking the Black Keys might have listened to this. They do it low-fi, but this is even lower. Excellent!
simply great. This rocks, music reduced to its essence. Thanks RP!
Ass kicked, names taken.  Go Jack & Meg!

Powerful stuff.  Another recent classic.  The lyrics have something 19th century about them.  As does the music if there were hard core electric blues back then.  Of course it's all blues tradition from the 20th century, and I guess you can complain about a white couple appropriating it.  But personally I just love good and original sounding music like this.  My guess is that lots of black blues musicians would have agreed with me.  As long as it didn't copy or subvert their own songs.

Heh. "Recent."  This song is old enough to vote.

Found out last night that my 16 year old daughter is a Jack White fan.  Right on.  Love this stuff.
why is Jack White's solo stuff boring but the White Stripes are not?
Jack & Meg at their best. Love it.

To know Jack a bit better, The Big Interview with Dan Rather on AXS TV is a must see.
And take your sweet little time about it ...

Please note: I'm not changing the song.  :-)
I dig it. This might just be the White Stripes finest recording.
Gotta give it a 9 just for the negative comment.
That's what rock and roll is for!

Flushed man in horror, grabbing his head

Yer dear dad, on Father's Dad, coming to horrified grips with his terrible, sure awful mistake.

This is a pretty great song. Jack White can be a pretentious show-off but I love the way this grinds and squeals.
Wow.  Turned it up loud enough to feel Meg's bass drum kicks like punches to the chest.  This is a really good tune.
This is stripped down heavy bucket lifting with some fireworks thrown in
i love love love this!

Jack White:  32 Grammy nominations and 12 wins.  I'd give him even more...
Crunchier than a sack of walnuts. They make a big noise for just the two of them.
Dang. This is some wicked, nasty ass, foot-stomping blues.

These guys are channeling, what, 1969?

(PSD to the rescue....)

That squeaky little solo guitar is about as unimaginative as it gets. Pwah.
OH, YEAH, RIP US SOME MORE OF THAT TASTY JUICY BLUESY FEEDBACK, JACK!
Is that a real guitar, or a Sears guitar?  Don't matter — Mad Jack be gettin' it done, and then some!

Pretty funky. Really heavy for a blues based riff.
Playing this quietly in the office is obviously not ideal ... but it's a lot better than not playing it.

PRETTY FUNKY, BUMPING TO A 3.
That's what I'm talkin' 'bout!

I LOVE your standard. I actually love this song so much that I would sign up for a new CELL PHONE PLAN over it.
I think Jack White would take a guard of middle and off, judging by the way he holds the cricket bat. (Maybe off stump, based upon his guitar solo)
Highway 61?

I tend to agree, but I've encountered some perceptive young 'uns (they're out there!) who have awareness of progenitors like Hendrix, and are quite able to put latter day disposables like the WS in proper perspective. They can enjoy both. There's hope yet!

White Stripes/Jack RAWK!!! Ya got love their stuff. Real R&R
Yes. I liketh. Can't say that for whole-lotta their stuff.
Kickass!!
most excellent
I think this rocks.
Don\'t think I\'ve ever seen so many negative comments about a song rated higher than a 6. I think a lot of White Stripes fans are remaining silent. Me, I think this is pretty ok. I mean, I won\'t sign up with a new long-distance carrier over it. But I won\'t just discard it either.
YEAH, find you a soapbox and shout it! The White Stripes know how to bust some rocks. Most excellent bass too .... Love \'em!

Hey, Mozart was "teenager music" at one time. I'm so happy to be referred to as a teenager that I'm giddy. Hope Johnny takes me out for a soda tonight.
Yup, my favorite, too. My son always chuckles when I crank it up. He gets kinda annoyed when he's in the car, though...
could anybody with an axe do that?
It ROCKS
awwww - my favorite white stripes song - sure do hope they play this when I go see them TONIGHT!!! Love their new album too!
LOVE this song
EXCELENTE! What a nice guitar/drums! Oscar
This annoys me near the end when it becomes completely derivative of Johnny Rivers.
I dont get the Dogpile below. This is pretty good. Raw like Sugar.
I think I have Acid Reflux Disease. Oh, wait, it's just White Stripes.
Teenager music. puke
I think the White Stripes are raw and cool. Very cool.

that list is utter bs; kurt cobain and johnny ramone beat mark knopfler, les paul, dickey betts, eddie van halen and a lot of other very good players.
