This song makes me smile... love the cheezy keyboard.
Really like this,  not sure why...

Love The Dandies! Even better, follow this up with "Planet of Weed" from Fountains of Wayne's Traffic and Weather! Trippy, uplifting, fun stuff!

Yes, yes we are.

The lyrics fit many a points-in-case. That's why most anyone can nodd along the tune and chime in. An amassing tune.

I keep envisioning a league of the brain-dead.
Started bobbing my head and singing along… unrated to 8!!!
There are so many things I like about this song.

Words very good. Music 7/10.

all of us sing about it but not all of us are getting any of it
Funny how plandemic makes this song sound better (kudos to RP Master). From a 1 to a 6. Cheers then!!

So you say, but I have yet to find the side that has the zipper on it.

And just what would Kurt Vonnegut think of this?

Welcome to the Monkey House
Such a wonderful, happy play list this afternoon! Thank you for cheering me up!
Sweeet ...
did they have a Plan B?
An interesting band with really groovy back beats!
It is totally unfair to the group, but every Dandy Warhols song reminds me of Veronica Mars.  Not that that is a bad thing.
There is something of Melody Nelson by Serge Gainsbourg in this...
the Dandies are amazing in concert! Both times I saw them in Sacramento they played in really small venues
It's like dejavu, I think this how I planned my escape.
Is this Jimmy Somerville in disguise? ;-)

Heh, I was reading something on another tab and clicked back on to this site to see who was playing, thinking the same thing :)
This is some kind of Planit all universe.
This is some kind of Plan B multiverse.
                      Within all looks pretty inverse.

Chumbawumba and the Flying Pickets (to name but two) come immediately to mind as Leftie bands who regularly performed at political events for free. Indeed, some of Chumbawumba's ultra fans got the serious hump when the band's hit Tubthumping hit the charts and they made some money out of it, when the ultras accused them of "selling out".

See also sockpuppet's excellent post from an artist's viewpoint. Pop artistes are people too...

Love this band! Just what RP needs, more music with a wickedly good sense of humor.

Then I would also be the buddy of Ron English and maybe even the band! No...?

Otherwise I will ask the Pretenders!
Great concert in Cologne last week!

Recommandable - very much so!

Anyway, as a successful professional artist, I can tell you that riches — including "vanity payment" — are not the measure of artistic success.  Artistic success is when your creation turns out similiar to the vision you had in the first place, or is even better in surprising ways.  My big successful moment isn't when someone hands me a check, or a contract to sign (that is when I feel a success as a businessperson, not as an artist).  It isn't even when people visibly enjoy the work and applaud, or when reading positive reviews.  It's when I walk around and around and around my creation, alone, usually in the middle of the night, admiring and enjoying it myself.  That is why I am an artist.  If it were just about the money, I would have gone into law and then politics, instead of writing and visual arts.

The reality of making a living as a professional artist is a lot more complicated, mentally and emotionally and financially, than your post implies.

As an artist blacksmith, albeit not a professional one, I have to say that I agree here with SockPuppet and think he did an excellent job summarizing how an artist feels about her/his work and when they feel most successful as an artist.

"What other kind of success is there?"

You do have a very limited view of life. Money isn't everything, nor does every artist think that it is. Or even every ordinary person.

Snore, snore.  So Fred, what other type of success is there?  I repeat the question.  There are no performers played here, on this station, or any station, who are not successful artists. The all have been paid and accepted money for their talent.  I did not say it was the only motivation, but the word success in the present context means selling records and tickets to humanoids.  There are no recorded cases in history of any notable artist refusing compensation for performing, except for charity events, which is a vanity payment.  It just doesn't happen.  The only possible case on record is Tolstoy, who famously gave much of his fortune away to his serfs.  On closer review, it was not really such a great act.  Count Tolstoy lived most of his life in immense wealth and only in very old age did he start to divest. His wife and family fought vigorously for the rights to his work.

How can a band be cursed by commercial success?  What other kind of success is there?  Broke, penniless, obscure, sitting-on-a-street-corner-busking success?  Some group performing for their cats, dogs, friends and relatives only?  Is that success? Is there a music scene that I don't know about that has performers who do not want their music to be appreciated, and who do not want to be remunerated?  How do these notions get traction?

It's a freaking pose.  Don't be so gullible.

No. They mean that the fact that they get a lot of airplay means, to some, that they suck. It's a hardship most good bands live with. I could list a dozen bands with amazing catalogues that are cursed because, for the mere fact that they are good, they are panned by the critics, particularly this bunch of critics. A band that succeeds must be crap or must have sold out, the quality of thier music means little compared to our ability to say they suck.
boooooooooooooooring.

Maybe one of the best examples of a band that has been blessed/cursed with commercial success. They certainly have an appealing sound (to me, anyway); their songs are really catchy. The ones I hear on RP (Bill's filter Rules) I generally rate high. I vaguely recall them from their day but was too preoccupied to notice then. Now that I have the leisure to appreciate them (and all the other RP fare), I count TDW among my favs.

===============================================================

Ha-haaaaaa...!

EXACTLY!
PREFECTLY TRUE!
This is how it sounds and feels like!
VERY DISAPPOINTING SONG!

TRUTH IS:
"BOHEMIAN LIKE YOU"
is a song anybody dreams about writing.
A SUPERHIT (so-to-speak) and part of my
ALL-TIME TOP-10 SONGS - EVER!

TRUTH IS FURTHER:
The band has another 2-3 VERY GOOD
and a small (!) handfull of reasonable songs.

THE ULTIMATE TRUTH IS:
ALL THE REST IS RATHER SHITTY
and very-very Somervillish-kinda-bull!

MY TRUTH IS!
I STILL LIKE THEM AS A BAND!

GOOD BAND - STUPID SONG!

repetitive. dumb. waste of air.

Amazing vocals, interesting songwriting, terrific production values. A definite 9 to me.
The Dandies have wedged a spot into my music collection after seeing the documentary "Dig!". Fun film, fun group.
