Something isn't right
I don't know how I know
But baby, it's despite
Your dog-and-pony show
I can hear it coming
You're only going through the motions, baby
With your engines humming
You're just going through the motions, baby
Feel like I'm in jail
With you and Mr. Hyde
A guy who leaves a trail
About a mile wide
So it starts already
That you're just going through the motions, baby
You can throw confetti
But you're still going through the motions, baby
Going through the motions, baby
They'll have a big parade
For every day that you stay clean
But when the trumpets fade
You'll go under like a submarine
And you won't see it coming
No, you won't see it coming
You could have it made
Up there in San Rafael
But baby, I'm afraid
I'll never see you well
Because I've seen the tally
And you're just going through the motions, baby
To a big finale
That comes from going through the motions, baby
Going through the motions, baby
Going through the motions, baby
You're just going through the motions, baby
I don't know how I know
But baby, it's despite
Your dog-and-pony show

I really like this album; the songs all tie together to tell a story.
You gotta check out Aimee on my new favourite show, IFC's "Portlandia." In season 1 they feature her on one of the episodes (hilarious). It's saterizations of hipster sensibilities, as well as the city of Portland, OR, are spot-on.
She remembered her nose plugs though!
1/10

Why is it that Radio Paradise always plays playlists that are exactly IN LINE with whatever is going on in my life?? ;-)

i love what she do
I rate a two. Til Tuesday 11.
I love many of her songs, but this isn't one of them.
Nice tune. Aimee Mann has a great voice.
Nice to hear from Aimee Mann. "Voices Carry" has stood up well over the last couple of decades. Glad to know she's still around....
I sure do love her voice. Hearing it makes me think of that video where she cries.

Aimee could sing the phone book and still rate a 10
Maybe not a 10, but she grabs my attention when I hear this.
If it weren't for the way she sings eight lines of the song, I might like.
Something isn't ri-yeeet
But baby, it's despi-yeeete
Feel like I'm in ja-yeeel
A guy who leaves a tra-yeel

But when the trumpets fay-eeede
Up there in San Rafa-yaaeeel
I'll never see you we-eeell
I don't li-yeeek it!
Is that Neil Young on lead guitar? Nah, Neil solos better...

Oh, no! I can't get it out of my mind!

If you're going to do Kirsty MacColl you should at least do it as well as Kirsty did it.
I'm not a big fan, but understand I'm in the minority. Still, I feel we're hearing this song too often!
An appropriate title for a marginal talent who always sounds as if she's just "going through the motions".
"Going through the mushroom space"..
Reminds me of Cheryl Crow's voice.........most excellent!
Preceded by Joe Henry. Who produced this album. Sometimes I don't know if Bill's mind is at work actively or subliminally.
I'll take it either way I guess.

Take that, all you who bellyache about "Static on the Radio."
Yeah, right...I'll see you on the elevators in hell.
OK, I give. I cant take any more Aimee. She is very bland. I bought the newest MoFi release of hers (I dont remember the name) and it sounds great, but I just cant get into it.
i agree with the positive comments. great song by a great (and consistent) artist.
Take that, all you who bellyache about "Static on the Radio."
She's too articulate and way too talented to be called 'whiney' or for that matter, even lumped in with other female contemporaries. Listen to any of her recent albums start to finish and I defy you to not be amongst the converted. That is all. Over.

I must say I agree, I like these songs all alone but this whole last set sounded like Aimee Mann and her 4 sisters. I seriously thought to myself without looking on the playlist that Aimee Mann was 4/6 of the last songs played.
Aimee is good but she can only carry irony so far. She needs some punch to her sound.
:-k
