Yesterday came suddenly, tomorrow will receive
Today now you're at the wheel, I'll ask how does it feel
Yesterday when Heaven's gates, I contemplate, they seem so far
Today they ain't so far away and almost see my train
Keep what ya got, by giving it all away
Keep what ya got, by giving it all away
Keep what ya got, hold it, don't stop
Keep what ya got, by giving it all away
When your halo slips for good, you'll have to wear your hood
Could you feel the breeze of fear on all the cynics, I'm ya mimick
All you losers, all abusers wasting all my precious energy
Keep what ya got, by giving it all away
Keep what ya got, by giving it all away
Keep what ya got, hold it, don't stop
Keep what ya got, by giving it all away
Remember where you came from
Sisters who told ya on a rainy day
They said that Heaven holds a place for all of those who pray
And if you don't believe in my dream then you don't care anyway
Nobody or nothings ever getting in your way
Even as you pray to the Lord but don't feel you belong
No one's gonna notice if you ever right or wrong
And if you and your next neighbour, yeah, you don't quite get along
No one's gonna notice if you're singing anyway
Those not coming in for free well they they gotta pay, aah...

I like the line "When your halo slips for good, you'll have to wear your hood" - nice image.
This caught my ear while writing a report at work (usually I don't listen to music while working but today is an exception). Love the use of a phaser (I think that's what I'm hearing) here - it's subtle.
Brilliant chorus… 🙄

So Stone Roses is the connection. Couldn't place it... OK but not great.

Yea, what's with "jelani"? Who cares what it sounds like? Doesn't most music sound like "other" music? I quite enjoyed this track, having heard it for the first time. Not all of us are music historians. We just like what we like. It's all subjective. I don't "get" Mariah Carey fans - but I don't wish them a tortuous death, either.
Easy with the language, here. We're civilized people, a part of a cool community of music lovers.

Bud you need to update you play list to this decade. There is lots of good music that has been created this decade, even this year. Now when you use the f word you know you are going crap, don't you!

I did buy the whole album, and I'm happy with it. There are a lot of horns, as some have noted, but I don't think it's excessive.

I so love the Stone Roses. Have probably listened to that album about a 1000 times (no joke). It is so cool to rediscover Ian here on RP.
It's funny how Mr. Goldsmith and I have very similar tastes in music (that's why I've stuck around). He keeps introducing me to new music by artists I've never heard of and reintroduces me to artists I've already fallen in love with. This station is truly magical!
Ian is making good music, but I've grown tired of his voice, It seems like he has settled into the same buzzing pitch in every_single_song on the entire album.
From the Jacques Loussier Trio playing Bach to Ian Brown. What an amazing flow!
The more I hear this track, the better I like it.
