You stirred my natural emotion
You make me feel I'm dirt
And I'm hurt
And if I start a commotion
I'll only end up losing you
And that's worse

Ever fallen in love with someone
Ever fallen in love, in love with someone
Ever fallen in love, in love with someone
You shouldn't've fallen in love with

I can't see much of the future
Unless we find out what's to blame
What a shame
And we won't be together much longer
Unless we realise that we are the same

Ever fallen in love with someone
Ever fallen in love, in love with someone
Ever fallen in love, in love with someone
You shouldn't've fallen in love with

Ever fallen in love with someone
Ever fallen in love, in love with someone
Ever fallen in love, in love with someone
You shouldn't've fallen in love with

You stirred my natural emotion
You make me feel I'm dirt
And I'm hurt
And if I start a commotion
I'll run the risk of losing you
And that's worse

Oh, yeah
Oh, yeah

He always looks like he's pissed.  I've seen tham live a couple of times, and I don't think he broke a smile once.
She sings like I want to sing! :D
love nouvelle vague 's version/cover/original(?) better...
oh no, they're giving the Buzzcocks the Cowboy Junkies treatment.....drainage of all emotion with castration. Pete Shelley would be PISSED!
I'll give her some props for having "Let It Be" by The 'Mats and some Nick Drake in her record collection, but I'd still rather hear any of the sixteen cuts by The Buzzcocks mysteryplane has suggested via his photo below:

 Side one "Orgasm Addict" (Devoto, Shelley) - 2:00"What Do I Get?" (Shelley) - 2:52"I Don't Mind" (Shelley) - 2:16"Love You More" (Shelley) - 1:47"Ever Fallen in Love?" (Shelley) - 2:39"Promises" (Diggle, Shelley) - 2:34"Everybody's Happy Nowadays" (Shelley)- 3:09"Harmony in My Head" (Diggle) - 3:06Side two"What Ever Happened To?" (Dial, Shelley) - 2:12"Oh Shit!" (Shelley) - 1:34"Autonomy" (Diggle) - 3:41"Noise Annoys" (Shelley) - 2:49"Just Lust" (Dial, Shelley) - 2:58"Lipstick" (Diggle, Shelley) - 2:36"Why Can't I Touch It?" (Diggle, Garvey, Maher, Shelley) - 6:32"Something's Gone Wrong Again" (Shelley) - 4:29

I agree the Buzzcocks version is a classic

What?  And this made the cut?

I just checked and there are NO Buzzcocks on the RP playlist.  My blood's beginning to boil.
This sounds like a lost Scorpion's ballad...
She must live in a pretty boring loft.
...at least she can sing!

Every time I hear this version it just makes me turn off RP to listen to the Buzzcock's version because it is a song filled with songiness and fantastivity. Puleeze, if you're not going to play the original, don't mock me by playing this version.

I've never heard the Buzzcocks version...but I've heard Billy Talent's and well...it's quite different from this one. As in it is sooo much better.
Sorry Thea, nothin' personnal...

I agree with your point, and often covers are better than the original, but IMO not in this case. I feel myself wanting the song to speed up to its proper tempo, to be as arousing as the Buzzcock's original which is about illicit attraction and sex and lust and excitement. When yer woman sings "if I start a commotion" in that languid, slow tempo, excitement is the last word that comes to mind - torpor more likely. I just feel like shaking her shoulders vigorously to wake her up. 10 from the Nottingham jury for the classic original, 4 for this cover.

A fine cover, but I join the chorus of 'Please add the original Buzzcock's version to the RP playlist.'

+1 for hearing the original! And IIRC Fine Young Cannibals did a fine cover in the late 80's... But damn, Buzzcocks rule!

An excellent question.

I'll say it again, mute button on. Shame to not play the original. What's next, Clay Aiken sings "London Calling"?

weird; because the vocal cadences are set up for a punk song, not this easy listening style.
I'd change the rythms, if I were her. A LOT.

Shame on you! Pete Shelley is god (sort of) I usually go for innovative covers but this borders on sacrilidge.

Well, Foo Fighters and QOTSA get played, so why not a little Buzzcocks? Yes? Please?
I really like this. Which makes me sort of glad I've never heard the orginial.

No, the original is much better. WAY better. Not that this is bad, I like it. But I will now be signing off to listen to the original.
What an excellent and totally different version of a song I wouldn't have believed would work this way. But then I would never have thought David Grey would get away with singing Soft Cell.
Beautiful and so real. I've never heard the original, and doubt I'd like it better.
Don't like cover versions...though she's got an interesting voice. Likeable anyway...

I prefer the original, myself!

looking at the cover she does have the same hairstyle as David Gilmour!
I'm not much for negative comments, but blech.
I imagine this will be played on an endless loop in the gift shop at CBGB's - Las Vegas.
I'm afraid I disagree. This version catches the feeling of the original. Shelley's song is about the pain of naturally falling in love with someone who can never return that love, because they are not gay. ("We can't stay together much longer; Unless we realize that we are the same")It's not angst; it's pain. Yorn's and FYC's version never captured that. This version is beautiful! Nice voice. Easy to see her influences with Nick Drake's Bryter Layter in the background, Joni Mitchell's For the Roses behind her, Van's Moondance to her right. Decent cover of Pete Shelley and the Buzzcocks (1978).

Very listenable, a la Smells Like Teen Spirit from Tori Amos. A nice pause, but the original is the way it's meant to be.
I wish I could give this negative ratings. It's flat lounge music. And it's a cover. So that leaves nothing on her part. But I do like the original, a lot.

Just bumped my rating up from 6 to 9 because a) it is a Buzzcocks song b) hadn't heard it for a while here and spontaneously went, "Yeah!" when it came on.. that must be some kind of litmus test.

I still like this version. Also, I didn't notice till today, on her album cover there seems to be a copy of a Nick Drake album...

I love her voice. Reminds me of Bird York. I also like another tune by her that RP used to play often called " Pirate Moon". Very nice.

She makes the song listenable. FYC is for the radio-basura.com
First time I heard this I thought it was pretty poor - certainly not in the spirit of the excellent original Funny thing is, I've heard it a couple of times on RP now and when it was on a little while ago, I found that I was actually glad to hear it again! So, bit of a u-turn on this one but I have decided that it is rather good in its own right, just as long as it is taken as it is - a very different interpretation. This is why I listen to RP - you guys manage to expand my sometimes too-narrow mind!

amazing! Love this tune and her voice!
I love Thea Gilmore's beautiful, transcendant, voice. I went to RP's Amazon.com search (on the home page) and found several of her works (at least eight CDs) now available - (click here) From an Amazon.com editorial review -
This isn't your older sister's folk music. Though Thea Gilmore's flair for poetic imagery and the lilt of her phrasing place her within the troubadour tradition, the rock dynamics of her raw, edgy band, augmented by the occasional rhythm loop, suggest a more contemporary appeal to the young British artist's generation. While paying homage to Bob Dylan with an atmospheric reading of "I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine" and to Bruce Springsteen with a bonus version of "Cover Me," she sounds more like Alanis Morissette on the album-opening "Down to Nowhere" and rocks with the hard-bitten bravura of Chrissie Hynde on "When Did You Get So Safe?" and "Lip Reading." A hypnotic, meditative pulse provides the perfect complement to the stark lyric of "The Dirt Is Your Lover Now," while the rootsy Americana of "Mud on My Shoes" finds Gilmore in a more playful mood. In addition to the two bonus tracks added to the "official" ten-track release, Gilmore offers an 11-song second disc, a grab-bag of rarities and limited-edition releases. --Don McLeese

That's a good point, but pain and lonliness is what I intended when I used the word "heartbreak" in my original post. I guess I should've been more specific considering "heartbreak" can convey many emotions. The song didn't seem sad to me, just bland - which I found frustrating. Although, as always, it's just a matter of opinion.

Like her voice a lot - and I'm a big fan of original sounding female vocalists (e.g. Margo Timmins, Beth Orton, Natalie Merchant).
second time through on this one and it is definitely growing on me... more Buzzcocks!
This song would probably have a much wider audience if the lyrics were "ever had sex with someone you shouldn't have had sex with".
don't really know how to rate this one. I like her voice and all, and the music is okay, but it completely misses the point of the original. I'd just say it needs it's own set of lyrics.
It was also covered by the Fine Young Cannibals, and a small hit in Europe, early 80s
This completely destroys the energy the Buzzcocks created with this song. An awful take - it sounds like lounge music, not heartbreak or anger. Throw it down there with Pete Yorn's cover on the Shrek 2 soundtrack.
I have a problem with artists releasing a cover for their first or second single. It usually pigeon-holes them. Let's hope it doesn't happen to her. She does have a beautiful voice, and I'm not usually a big fan of women vocalists.
Nice cover....
Great voice! Nice sound. Let's hear more!
