There's damage out there some place
You got to step aside
Where are you going that decision is made
That's how it started
Too hot and dirty inside
Contain your feelings when there's nowhere to go

Follow all the signs and they'll lead us away
And it's all good stuff for ... around the world today

Turn off your television
Don't be the hatchet man
His time has come and now I'm ready to go
Cut up and fear
Tap into the nervous system
Retrieve your message tell me what do I know

Follow all the signs and they'll lead us away
But it's all good stuff for ... around the world today

Tried on the feeding time
The truth is
It's going to get you and won't let go
I'm isolated
I'm going nowhere fast
There's no direction so where do I go

Follow all the signs and they'll lead us away
But it's all good stuff for ... around the world today

Used to listen to this album a ton back in 2007-2008 thanks to RP. Haven't listened in a while. Time to add to the regular rotation again. I can always rely on RP to remind me of the excellent musical taste that I have because of RP!!

I Agree.  GREAT TUNE!  Thanx RP!
seems that Måneskin cloned the style here
On in the background while CADding...

Wanted to sing boom shakalak shakalakaboom
The more I hear this tune, the more I like it!!  Thanx RP!
Excellent!!  I never heard this tune before. That is why we come here.  Thanx RP!
Absolutely stunning song, on every level. They really nailed their craft on this record! Love it! Came out while Tokyo ex-pat life was still the best gig in the Universe!

Rouen was a recent _Jeopardy_ question, reveling that this album title connects via wordplay with Joan of Arc's demise.

What a great track from a great album, best played very loud with the bass on max.
Definitely has some Joe Jackson DNA.  Throw It Away from Look Sharp!
An unmistakable intro.

This band called it quits, just about the time they started to really reach a global audience.

TOTALLY underrated band!
Kinda like the Clash meets David Bowie meets Talking Heads...kinda. In other words they have their own sound...and its really cool!
Rouen is where I filled my diesel car with petrol (gas) and had to have the tank drained.  Nearly missed the ferry home to England.

Most Art (think of music or movies, but also books, paintings etc...) are like a mirror. What you recognize in it, depends on your own view and from where you look at it. Much more than anything else.

As for obama being a socialist, that's just right-wing propaganda. He was a liberal senator but has (according to most of the pols) become a centrist president in order to get consensus. Sensible. Now, some songs have little to do with any sort of politics - you'd be hard pushed to get a political statement from "Mr Blue Sky" or "I Wanna Hold Your Hand", say - and it is a bit pointless and 'green ink' for some on this board to suddenly write diatribes for/against Obama/Bush/conservatives/liberals/socialists/Canada/whatever on the fora for those songs. It's that sort of riding of hobby-horses which gets pretty tiresome and hijacks the music discussion without any net gain in understanding.

When the song itself has political lyrics, or is the product of a specific time and reflects the socio-political situation of that era (for instance, The Specials' "Ghost Town"), then political discussion is, IMO, relevant. Or when the musical style is implicitly political, such as Blues which came out of the black working-class experience.

Perhaps the guiding principle should be that political discussion should be relevant to the song, the artist or the situation.

Too funny!

I posted the Obama parody as follow-up to the Sarah Palin spoofs below and the thread becomes a debate on who is "more-Socialist-than-thou".  Man, some people are touchy.

Why no comments along the lines of "Palin would never go without blending the Rouge from cheekbone ridge to chin - to do so is Anarcho-Facist" ?

The song is pretty good, but not one of my fav's.

So - take the lyric portion to another forum, and leave the music here. I don't even know what a socialist is. I've spent most of my life in the land of OhMyGod, where there are no boundaries - everyone is equally vulnerable, but also equally receptive. I hate politics. I'm barely aware of who the president is, and don't even ask me who rules any other country, because I'd probably respond with, "Uh, Cthulu?"

It's music here, for me. Politics, one side against another, one race against another - it all bores me. We're HUMANS first. And music should come as the next unifying factor for mankind - not race, gender, country, or political affiliation.

And I just went political, didn't I? *facepalm* Geez, next think you know, I'll be hugging a tree or saving a whale or sponsoring a child or boycotting a puppymill.{#Doh}

Sorry, couldn't help myself ;o)

I am forced to think of FlatOut 2 when hearing this song - it was the menu soundtrack. Over-use made this a bit grating at times, but hearing it in the middle of an RP playlist is ok.

So, we're supposed to ignore the lyrics?  They're not part of the music?  Why have them at all then if not to consider what they express?

Reminds me of one of my favorite quotes:

The price good men pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men.  Plato

How can any president of the US be a socialist in a European sense, please? How do you call the political direction, OBAMA is representing? He is closer to be called an "American socialist" than any other president before him in recent decades!

What this has to do with football, spleens and being a hardcore socialist in England, leave alone Supergrass?

But what the hey, it's like some guys who go along to football matches for no other purpose but to vent their spleen - it serves a social purpose, I guess.

What makes me chuckle, such as in this thread, are folk who call Obama or H Clinton 'socialist', which shows a blinding ignorance of political philosophy and a US-centric parochiality. God I envy you, Bleyfusz!
As for the song, it has such a retro feel to it, that I was trying to recall what 70's hit this was! ...just the beginning, mind!

For some reason, this song reminds me of my trips to Europe, especially southern France.

does the beginning remind anyone else of Tombstone Blues?
Trying to find out what guitar riff the main one in this song reminded me of, distracted me from really listening to the music. It's I Want to Take You Higher by Sly and the Family Stone! Reading the comments it reminds people of lots of songs, riffs.
something about this reminds me of "Black Girls" by the Violent Femmes...
I like it. Kind of reminds me of Adolescent Sex by Japan.
Good choice! Love Supagrass.
i too bought this album after hearing here - best ten bucks i spent in 2007! as pedro says, this is rock
I bought this album used recently, based on what I had heard on RP. What surprised me was how many of the songs I have heard here are on that one album. Yet, never heard anything by the band anywhere else.
Great band. A million times stronger than half of the brit bands that made it big through the 90s...
