If I wanted to listen to crap I'd grab my kids ipod and plug it in. Bill: WTF?

Ooompa Looompa's?
Solid 9. Reminds me of Putamayo Records.

Man, this is tough; a strange cross between Paul Simon in Johannesburg, Brianna or Lindsey Lohan on speed and some hard-bop jazz.
And cheese!

I like it, especially with the trombone way up in the mix. Don't hear that every day. My daughter did a dance routine to an Angelique Kidjo song, so I have a soft spot for her.
Okay, I'm trying to bear in mind that even the best "best-of" albums have a few clinkers on 'em. . . .
Is it safe to come back yet?
Had RP turned down for a phone call and thought the radio had drifted to the adjacent-frequency soft-office-rock station. Which doesn't say much for this tune. 5
Nice beat, I can dance to it. Oh wait I can't dance. Still, not bad 6.
I saw her live in Seattle, 1997—great show!
You lookin' at my ass? Thanks! (wiggles it for an encore).
Hmm... wiggling an ass sounds generally unmanly doesn't it? Ok, well... it was more of an awkward, stilting sway.

This is a joke, right? A horrible joke with no punchline?!?!

One of the rare songs that captured me in the first 2 seconds. Tough, aggressive grooves are irrestible sometimes I guess. The main vocal part of the song is less impressive, but I still like it (take the meh with the great I always say... well... I just said it. Maybe I'll say it again someday).

Angelique! Emphasis on the "angel"!
I had the very good fortune of seeing this dynamic ball of energy for the third time. Front row center, too! By the end of the show, the whole audience was invited to, and came on, the stage to dance and sing w/Angelique. Families with children, teens, and old folks, as well as forty-somethings like me, we all danced with Angelique & the band. A great time at the Calvin Theater in Northampton this winter.
I wish I could give this a hundred ratings of "1."
Nice groove, I like it.
Gets my little kids groovin'!
Hmmmm. Takes me back to the early days of disco - must get the white suit out again - Rum & coke for me please. Do you come here often :-)
World music gone disco? Blech!
Good fun, thanks RP
We saw her open up for the Neville Brothers a couple of years ago - absolutely wonderful to see her not only perform her own material, but to also join the Neville Brothers for some of their songs. Great show!

I like having something go against the flow :) Thanks for something new, Bill.

I think I just had the largest swing vote in my RP history: I took this from a 1 to a 6. Tastes change, I suppose.

they should play "Adouma" her tune that Santana TOTALLY screwed up. She does it smokin hot! It's a shame no one plays it. Even radio stations think it's a Santana tune.BLECHHHH!!!

Rather uplifting! WHile it was playing I was reading an ad for a place where horses help women through tough times.

Yucky. This leaves a nasty taste in my ears.
I've never tasted my ears before, but I'm sure mine are starting to spoil after this song.
Hey, I really like this!
This reminds me of music from a game called Sonic The Hedgehog.
So call this video game music or call video game music good.
I guess crappy synth pop is just better when it's "World Beat", huh?
EDIT:

Let's just say that I had to check if someone changed my radio station while I was away from my desk... not exactly what I'm used to hearing on RP.
Same thing happened to me.
Yucky. This leaves a nasty taste in my ears.
I'm loving this!!!
Yeeeaaahhhhhhh.....no
What's this? Angelique Kidjo on RP? WOO HOO...Now dig out some other cuts like Oremi, Bitchifi and Voodoo Child?? Hummm?

. . . the horses - they're medicinal.
Now this, really is odd.
Its like your standard early 90's female pop stuff, with the synth drums etc.
Then its all foreign.
Hmm.
A 5.
. . . what the hell.
Very nice. I saw Anjélique a few weeks ago at the Lisner here in DC and she was terrific. She has so much energy and stage presence, and her voice is a force of nature.
She's been criticized for having a "western" pop sensibility, but she's recorded in a number of styles, from R&B to samba to merengue to salsa to traditional African folk, and she insists that she shouldn't be confined to playing "pure" African music just because she's African (she's from Benin).

Eh ---- what??
Anyway, I agree it's uplifting. Seven sweet points from me!
Wow, it's great to hear some Angelique Kidjo here. Sweet!

Good music is good music, regardless from where it is. I suggest you open your mind a bit.
I'd certainly have it on my iPod and I have no idea where their 'hometown' is.
Oh. . . and to suggest your kids listen to 'better' music than this suggests you don't think even their taste is up to scratch. . . and that my friend, is very telling in that you think they have a lesser 'taste' in music than yourself. If I were one of your kids I'd tell you to fuck off.
. . . just my opinion. . . nothing personal.
:)
