Conquest
He was out to make a conquest
Didn't care what harm was done
Just as long as he won
The prize.
Conquest
She was just another conquest
Didn't care whose heart was broke
Love to him was a joke
Till he looked into her eyes.
And then in the strange way things happen
Their roles were reversed from that day
The hunted became the huntress
The hunter became the prey.
Conquest
Now you know who made the conquest
She with all her female guile
Led him helpless down the aisle
She had finally made a
Conquest.
And then in the strange way things happen
Their roles were reversed from that day
The hunted became the huntress
The hunter became the prey.
Conquest
Now you know who made the conquest
She with all her female guile
Led him helpless down the aisle
She had finally made a
Conquest.

word.
Strident without effect or reason.
BRILLIANT! I have yet to hear a song by them that wasn't fun or didn't have some interesting musical qualities. Even if I don't like the song (which is almost never!) they sure are great to ap-pre-ciate! I say keep on playin'!
You have to wonder if Jack White is hard of hearing, or just stupid. First, he hears "Salvation Army", and thinks it's "Seven Nation Army", then he can't get "ecky thump" right. Sheesh. Get a hearing aid.
Uh, done ironically, right?
And RP gets its kick-back from ebay.
LOVE IT! Turn it up loud and sing along!!!

Totally
Bites.
I mean, really.
FAIL.
Icky Thump is an amazing album save for this song...
Some people are not able to see beyond their present situation (musically or otherwise). Thus they cannot see genius in their own time. The Stripes have been 'pushing the envelope' for a few years now and I believe with this heavily Led Zep III/Blues & Folk/Celtic, they have achieved near perfection.SO ECLECTIC!!
Putting the icky into the thump, not unlike a root canal procedure. Painful, but you feel better when it's over and glad you did it.
Horrible - painful - yuch - mute!
I give the song a "1" with a hilarity coefficient of "11." Conquest! --Radio Man
Execrable.
IMHO one of the only bands that really matters these days. Like them or not, at least they're DIFFERENT!
White Stripes / Calexico mashup? Fun, if a bit schizo.
Very good raw energy !!
Groovy suits..

Very peculiar, but not offensive.

What a ball of poo this is.
I like it. And it's a cover, if I'm not mistaken.
ditto.

I'm not a fan of theirs by any stretch (I wouldn't be able to name a single song, for example), but I kinda dig this one.
EDIT: Lol, that's the first time I've heard Bill seg a song like that (into REM's How The West Was Won And Where It Got Us).
Interesting Zep influence...I like the stripes. Raw rock !
Really have to be in the mood for this one. I haven't found that mood yet.

We\'re still watching Peter Sellers movies (well, at least my wife is) I don\'t think we\'ll be listening to this in the near decades.

What\'s THIS? Carnival music? Sounds awful (at least in my ears...)!
\"C-O-O-O-MCast!\"
in the old days this is what you\'d call a B-Side.
Too painful to be funny.

If by making the Peter Sellers comparison, you mean funny and brilliant at the same time, I agree wholeheartedly.
To those of you that find this to be an affront to your sensibilities just because it has mariachi horns in it, lighten up and get over it. It's just music.
I know this sounds like a somewhat shallow and simplistic observation, but I'm surprised Calexico didn't try and do this one (with the horns).
I had trouble figuring this one out at first (with how the hunted becomes the huntress and the hunter became the prey). But then it happened because they looked in each other's eyes (don't you wish life was really that easy?). OK, the songwriter didn't add much substance to the story. But the music makes up for that.

Twould be a fun thing for Meg to be in "Emperor's Clothes"! Though she is a bit pale and glasses may be needed for the glare.
These two are so freakin' derivitive it's not funny. They are like the emporer with no clothes.
Um, they have clothes on. With lots of pretty beads. See?I'm not getting the "talent" bit. Just painful, and not funny. Of course, I have no sense of humor. One of very few ones for me.
Oh, OUCH!
One full fifth "sucko barfo" ratings and still Bill stands firm in his leadership with continuing play!
Thanks, BG, this one gets a hilarious 8 from me. Jack and Meg, supreme rebel rockers of the first order, IMHO.
love it!

OMG...this song is bizarre. In a way like pickle juice in your coffee.
Their shelf life as "flavor of the month" is nearly over.
it's so so so bad! and yet kinda awsome in its absurdity

¿Que es esto?
I have no idea what the heck this is. But I kind of like it.

I like the White Stripes but this is terrible. I guess that's the price we pay for them being innovative.
That was fun.
Tapping into the thoughts of every man......and the music is really bad too.
I dig it.
mailing it in now, are they?
Brilliant!
This is obviously meant as a cruelty upon the listener.
Its clear that the Racontuers were a break for White. This is where he truely shines, this is where he can let his freakily awesome talents loose.
whatever.
This hurts my ears. ick.
Unlistenable. If this is a joke, I'm not laughing...
I'm starting to like this just because it is so supremely ridiculous. I'm sitting here laughing out loud.
Motivated me to turn down the volume, something I've never before done listening to RP. A joke, yes, but wears thin very fast IMO.
A 7 on first listen just cuz i like them so much in general. It could go either way 2 points after a few more listens.
Digging the keyboard-horns. Liking the sense of humour. Making me smile.
What the...
Eclectic, yes. Good, no. Thank goodness this is being followed up with Cake!
God, that was awful!
Get's my vote for the "Band of Bees" award.

At ACL this year, The White Stripes are set to play directly in conflict with Arcade Fire.
I am torn.
However, the more I hear from this album, the more I am leaning toward Arcade Fire. Just not feeling it.
Yeah, I'm not real happy about that scheduling conflict either.
Just so much noise
I like the new record, but this has to be one of my least favorites on it. Doesn't make you wanna run right out and get it.
Try You Don't Know What Love Is, 300mph Torrential Outpour Blues or Effect and Cause.
Jack White....out of ideas.

Hahaha, I love the Stripes. They crack me up. Raw and playful.
Bought it but I haven't listened to it yet. One thing I love about them (besides their music) is that Jack White isn't afraid to sound different or sound the same. He just makes his music.
I thought I was listening to Spinal Tap at first.
Kind of goes with the outfits on the cover. I wonder if they light up.
Another turd from the White Stripes
first! yay new stripes!
