(David Lowery)
Well I'd never sleep with your ex-girlfriend
Even if she starts to flirt with me again.
Allow me apologize for my slightly wicked thoughts;
'Cause that's the kind of friend that you've got.
(Patterson Hood)
If a fight breaks out and you're the cause of it
In some redneck bar where you've been talking shit.
I would not forsake you later in that parking lot
'cause that's the kind of friend that you've got.
(Lowery and Hood)
Well through the laughter and the tears,
We go stumbling through the years.
(Lowery)
A bit dysfunctional well folks might say
(Hood)
Well I've got the dirt on you.
(Lowery)
Hey, I've got plenty on you too.
(Lowery and Hood)
So I pray we stay together all our days.

(Lowery)
So when you're on a date
And you finally bring that girl home.
You put a little Captain Beefheart on the stereo
And you disconnect the phone.

(Hood)
Then I show up drunk and raving,
And then I pass out on the spot.
'Cause that's the kind of friend
That you've got.
(Lowery)
Well through the laughter and the tears,
(Lowery and Hood)
We go stumbling through the years.
(Lowery)
A bit dysfunctional well folks might say
(Hood)
You can say that again.
(Lowery and Hood)
Well I've got the dirt on you.
(Lowery)
Hey, I've got plenty on you too;
(Lowery and Hood)
So I pray we stay together all our days.
(Lowery)
Oh dear lord
(Lowery and Hood)
Yeah I pray we stay together all our days.

Yep, this is what a friend should be—just like he says.
I like Cracker—-after this album came out, and hearing older stuff of theirs on here; I realized how much I have always liked them and got a few of their previous things as well as this new one that I didn't have.

Agree, this is a 3.

what's interesting here is how this is good ole American country honk played by a buncha Yanks with a bunch of brit poseurs (the Rolling Stones) as inspiration! WOW, full circle.

Translation:

"Shit-kicking" is an impolite way to praise rural attributes.  For example, "John Deere makes a shit-kicking tractor!" or "This is a shit-kicking place to drink beer!"  Not sure about the origin of this term.  ("Shit" is the impolite term.  It refers to what men do while sitting on a toilet.)

"Cow pies" are the dried feces of cows.  Cattle droppings usually splatter into a circular puddle on the ground.  After a few days in the sun, the puddle dries into a hard disk which resembles a minature pie.  Texans, and perhaps other crazy people, have contests to see how far the cowpies can be tossed or thrown spinning like a Frisbee disk.  In the South (USA), we don't actually touch cowpies with our hands, because we're civilized.  I suppose we kick them instead.

Combat boots generally sported by the mods, punks, rude boys, etc. of the late '70s. These are shoes specifically engineered for kicking the shit out of whomever needs shit-kicking. Strap on your shit kickers and braces; let's go
I love these guys.
They sound quite genuine to me.
How about Euro Trash Girl? I love that one especially.

Authentic southern music from Santa Cruz, CA?

Yeah, that's what it sounds like.  Except for the authentic part.
Maybe the Stones doing Far Away Eyes. Maybe that would make this okay.
I can see how this might be a fun song if you were really really REALLY drunk. Or maybe not.
The Grateful Dead by any other name . . .
(or is it Dr. Hook?)

Can you please translate for those who not in the english language?!  By the way, for me, this is at least a 3!

This is really funny, and mostly because I heard the same from several guys — and probably said it to several — after a long night with our buddy Jim Beam.

A good friend takes a long time to grow.
It was cute the first couple of times but losing interest in it now....
Almost as bad as when Jagger tries to do country. On second thought, it was that bad.

I was wondering if that's who that was...

I bought it—great album.  I'm listening to it a lot.  I don't particularly like this song, but it fits it's place within the context of the album (I think).

A Land of Milk and Honey

And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey: unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.
— Exodus 3: 8 (KJV)

Addressing Moses from the burning bush, Yahweh announces his plan to bring Israel out of Egypt to a "land flowing with milk and honey." God means Palestine, the land he promised to Abraham (Genesis 12) and again to Jacob (Genesis 28).

Don't care for the hillbilly vocals.

I like Cracker, no matter what. Not something I'd want to listen to all the time, however...
Not setting me on fire.
