I was searching
You were on a mission
Then our hearts combined like
A neutron star collision

I have nothing left to lose
You took your time to choose
Then we told each other
With no trace of fear that...

Our love would be forever
And if we die
We die together
And lie, I said never
'Cause our love would be forever

The world is broken
Halos fail to glisten
You try to make a difference
But no one wants to listen

Hail, The preachers, fake and proud
Their doctrines will be cloud
Then they'll dissipate
Like snowflakes in an ocean

Love is forever
And we'll die, we'll die together
And lie, I say never
'Cause our love could be forever

Now I've got nothing left to lose
You take your time to choose
I can tell you now without a trace of fear

That my love will be forever
And we'll die we'll die together
Lie, I will never
'Cause our love will be forever

I haven't heard a Muse song that I like. This one is only exceptional because I felt compelled to rate it down as far as it could go. I don't usually enjoy hating on music. I can usually identify the hook even, if it doesn't suit my mood or style. Some times a song can grow on you. Let me break down why Muse blows chunks.

The instrumentation tempo is whirling along at 78 rpm while the vocals are lagging behind somewhere inside of a 15th centrury funeral dirge. I don't mean to insult 15th century funeral dirges. No key change up, no staccato, no instrumental solo, no variation what so ever until the song ends. The vocal levels are too far up in the mix, yet, I still can't understand the lyrics because the only consonants to be heard are at the beginning of each stanza. The rest are squished out of existence by sloppy singing style. Let's suppose the lyrics aren't worth hearing. If that's true they should be buried under the beat. That's what it's there for, just ask Simon Le Bon. I could be pleasantly surprised by a Muse cover band, or a different producer could apply some 4:4 polish to this turd.

I'll admit, there is some natural talent for being able to hold a note for 14 bars. When every vocal note is held for at least 3 bars it looses emotional impact. That's the extent of the artistic vision in Muse it seems to me. A one trick pony. Every muse song I have ever heard sounds like every other Muse song I have ever heard. Dripping with all the pseudo teenage angst of an episode of "Leave It to Beaver". Maybe they make some really compelling music videos or something, but just to listen is a bore. As-is, I don't understand the appeal at all.

I don't listen to RP any more (too much Radiohead and too many snotty Radiohead fans), but once in a while I spend an hour or so reading the listener comments,

This is one of the best listener posts I've seen in the almost four years I've been around here.

Stay thirsty, my friend.

I like Muse, but I don't really like this. . .
loud and irritating.
Sorry, I just don't find astrophysics romantic.

This is a real love it or hate it song
I have a feeling this is going to be a guilty pleasure someday.
Wow, this is like the 4th day in a row for this one around this time of day. I think Bill is trying to get it to grow on us ;)

This song is dreadful. I'm now convinced Bill is playing it because it is so divisive. Very funny, Bill!

Too bad they survived it.

Obviously not dealing with a Rhodes Scholar here.  Ad hominems aside, this song continues to suck.

Negative comments on this song are posted so Bill will know that this song annoys a lot of his listeners (who love the vast majority of what he plays or we wouldn't continue to listen / contribute). Therefore, negative comments are not useless - they serve a purpose for Bill.
overwrought, baroque, excessive, bloated self important. hit the delete button Bill, please
Why do I get the feeling that these guys take themselves way too seriously?

edit:
Wow! I just noticed the split on this song. That's the biggest i've ever seen on RP. Count me in the big fat list of sucko barfos
You've GOT to be kidding me.... the drama!
I LOVE MUSE — (and I love Twilight too) — BUT this song is totally phoned in......  bleech  3

I can't help but feel that Bill has this on here to show how crappy things COULD be if he didn't DJ.
Not really anymore over-the-top than say... Iron Maiden. {#Roflol}

Wow, 3.6?  Seriously?  This is good.  Evocative, emotional, heartfelt, and well rehearsed.  The composition is clever and satisfying, and the musicians know their work, clearly.

I don't get it.  What is there not to like here?

Tzzzzz...!

If you had a working set of ears, you had never asked such a silly-silly question.
You don't get it? You're a helpless case, then - sorry!

I'd just as soon not hear this again.

I'm with you on that.  The ratings surprised me a bunch.  I mean, it's not a 10 but it's a good solid 8.

Somebody is sure channeling Freddie Mercury.
I don't judge what I like and dislike by my own creative ability, no one should. Criticism has nothing to do with personal talent. Leonard Maltin, Gene Siskel, and Roger Ebert to my knowlege never made a motion picture. Nor have the producers of X-Play ever made a video game, at least nothing producing enough cash to quit their day jobs. But they have a much broader knowlege of their respective industries to inform what works and doesn't work. A good critique isn't just a thumbs up or down. It's why.

As a community diven site that respects the opinion of its listener base, its important to explain dissenting opinions. I'm emotionally indifferent to their success. I gave this song an uncharacteristiclly bad score, and I thought I should explain why I feel that I could die happy never hearing it again. See my previous post.

Perhapse Muse is really fantastic entertainment at a live concert. Maybe it fits very well in the score of the movie Twilight. I wouldn't really know I have only ever watched the RiffTrax version. https://www.rifftrax.com/rifftrax/twilight-new-moon Niether of these points are an argument for why it should be played more frequently on RP, because this is radio. The RP catalogue is so much broader than my own. I like hearing things that I wouldn't normally hear. Muse is so saturated already. Why play it here, it's not great, it's not obscure.

Talent isn't enough by itself to make a really great artistic expression. Piccasso was not renound for his ability to hold a paint brush for days on end or the straightness of his lines, or the eveness of his stroke. There is no question he needed those skills to produce his work, but it's about composition, complexity, and observation. If the technical stuff were all that mattered then the truck that paints the yellow lines down the center of the highway would be sold at auction at Christies for several billion. I guess if thats your thing I will glady sell you a photograph of Interstate 5. You can stare at it while you drown yourself in your private Muse collection.

I hear that - I appreciate this site - I also read that most every comment on this song was blasting negative, so as I stand up against that, obviously alone, but I stand up and speak that I like someone and it's not okay to do that?  Read some of the first comments here and I'm only stating that if someone has THAT much heat against someone, they ought to think of what they can give to us that's any better before they're THAT negative. If you go through my comments on this entire site, I have zero that are negative.  thank you

It must be nice to only have positive comments on things (are you on anti-depressants?).... it is however not the purpose of a free and open exchange. If you don't like negative comments, I suggest you stop reading the message board or petition Bill to censor free speech on the RP website.....

It's ok to give negative criticism. I prefer to compliment the awesome than to ridicule the bad but both are valid expressions. Just as your high opinion of Muse is valid. I respect their musicianship and their success, I just think their songwriting  sucks, that's all.

Bellamy has remarkable technical skills, similar to The Divine Comedy's Chris Hannon. Those skills are sadly misused here.

Thom Yorke has, by normal technical standards, a terrible voice. However, it's such a perfect fit for Radiohead that he results are generally sublime.

You'd be hard pressed convincing me of Thom Yorke's lack of technical skills. Belamy might be more enjoyed by the opera crowd (though not likely as his nasal sound is too whiny) but he has no balls.  Thom yorke carries both innocence and optimism and dirty dark depression in his vocals. Bellamy carries little but his own vocal narcissism and it  sounds like he REALLY needs to prove it to the rest of us.

A fired up group here! yipes!  ... well, I dare to stand alone and say that I like it and that it's not the 'usual' sound of Muse, but it's that movie-score sound that teen girls like and I'll bet most of us here are NOT that.  After seeing them live, right up front and center, hanging with people that had traveled the globe ONLY to see 14 shows of theirs by that day (April 5, 2010) — I have to say they're an acquired taste to many.

If you have not heard anything of their first CD, let alone their other 4, give them a chance.  They're more talented than you realize if give TALENT a chance. I'd like to see or hear any one of us hear simply COVER just ONE of their songs.

Just for your humble kindness, give these 4 songs a chance with video and wonder how you'd do making them let alone playing them live so they sound JUST AS GOOD:

Pink Floyd without the dope - Butterflies and Hurricanes:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzCKrwOme2U&feature=fvsr

A truly psychological interpretation of love in today's world - Unintended:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9LOFXwPwC4

Making blues talent rare, even in 1999 Muse - Falling Down: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEbgH0v4NkM

A matured voice and intense sound - Unnatural Selection: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgX8eF8glCU

I have loved everything they do, and like all of us, we're capable of some weaker strengths, but that does not mean we're "horrible" through and through as some of the comments here suggest.

I could easily cover any of their songs. Lots of people can hold incredibly long notes, or better incredibly long phrases. Try rapping a long string sometime. It's cool once in awhile (a-la Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah).

Whatever originality they had (not much as I've always viewed them as a culture-poor knockoff of Radiohead) when busting out was quickly commercialized and has degraded quickly. Now they're doing Twilight songs...how old are these guys? Shouldn't that be illegal?

I agree on all points. Your point about holding every note for 3 bars is on the money. It's just vocal masturbation for Belamy. Maybe his teenage fans like it but RP is more grown-up thank God.

I'd say it's less of a bore and more like an insult. Muse's  Muse needs some humility.

Queen comparisons fail to understand the genius of Queen. Muse's vocals don't even approach Freddy Mercury. Let's talk about dynamics or melody..okay, let's not. Queen has 'em, Muse don't. I agree with {#Arrowd} in that Muse seems to be a one trick phony.

I haven't heard lyrics this bad since..... ever. Why is this on the playlist?
I'm not a Muse hater, but this one just isn't hitting the spot for me...
Strictly show tunes.
This song sucks. This guys voice is annoying....horrid.

Wow this is really bad... I like some of Muse stuff butt whoever told them this was a great song and to record had crap in his ears
Delightfully horrible.  ;)
Ugh Muse. Belamy; a poor nasal melodramatic ripoff of Thom Yorke with cheeseball industrial wannabe-be, nutless rock.

I rarely ever shut off the wonder that is RP, but this one I couldn't handle...

Sucko-barfo fo sho.
Is there a rating below "sucko-barfo"...?
OMG, they've done it again. Sucko. Barfo.
I generally like this band, but this song blows.{#Puke}
Does Queen get a royalty? BTW, I'm a big Muse fan.

My muse thinks this sucks.
Wow. This guy sings.
I'm a sucker for Muse. But I'm sad it's for the Twilight soundtrack.
