'Cause I know that time has numbered my days
And I'll go along with everything you say
But I'll ride home laughing, look at me now
The walls of my tower, they come crumbling down
And my ears hear the call of my unborn sons
And I know their choices color all I've done
But I'll explain it all to the watchman's son,
I never lived a year better spent in love
'Cause I know my weakness know my voice,
so now believe in grace and choice
And I know perhaps my heart is farce,
but I'll be born without a mask
Like the city that nurtured my greed and my pride,
I stretch my arms into the sky
I cry Babel! Babel! Look at me now
But the walls of my tower, they come crumbling down
You ask where will we stand in the winds that will howl,
As all we see will slip into the cloud
So come down from your mountain and stand where we've been,
You know our breath is weak and our bodies thin
Press my nose up to the glass around your heart
I should've known I was weaker from the start
You'll build your walls and I will play my bloody part
To tear, tear them down. Well I'm gonna tear, tear them down!
'Cause I know my weakness know my voice, but I believe in grace and choice
And I know perhaps my heart is farce, but I'll be born without a mask
And I'll go along with everything you say
But I'll ride home laughing, look at me now

But I, me, Horstman, think they suck. You can think whatever the hell you want. I don't mind.
If you really think it has nothing to do with their popularity, then you are deluding yourself. You just made my shitlist! Congrats!
(sorry M&S, I'd tried to save you from the haters, but failed)

Borrowing a few lines from Housman:
The cow, the old cow, she is dead;
It sleeps well, the horned head:
We poor lads, ’tis our turn now
To hear such tunes as killed the cow.

Great talent. Be nice if they knew more than one song.

One trick ponies.
Surely they will burn out producing the same cackle of sound...

Seriously, this is such garbage.
So i don't get why that song is called music? Rambling ear throbing( not in a good way) horse stomping non melodic Ranting. Ow.
most definitely music makers

I feel like I should like these guys. For some reason I feel like I should like these guys. I've tried. I just can't. I really can't stand the racket. Maybe I just need to be a little more drunk in a really dark old bar surrouded by deteriorating soccer paraphenalia tacked to the smoke stained walls. Maybe...naaaah. I just don't like 'em. Sorry fans.
I'm sorry, this just sounds like someone ranting in line at the DMV with headphones on too loud with bad boring strumming playing. I don't appreciate them at all, emperors new clothes and all that, but to those who do there is room for many styles on RP...
Flying Spaghetti Monster this SUCKS!
This song rocks. BTW I'm telling all my BFFs about Radio Paradise. The DJ sounds like a hottie! When can we hear One Direction?
Gawd, I am sick to death of Mumford & Sons. They sucked from the beginning, they have continued to suck.
You're thinking about this way too deeply. They suck, the end.

Yes. You know, I can troll with the best of them. I like to rant against stuff I don't like and I think that is perfectly great. I think people should write what is on their mind. Lately I have experimented with just writing the very first thing that comes to mind for a song. Just once in awhile.
But I take the ratings very seriously. My sucko-barfos are only 2.5% of my total votes. When I see how this song is getting trashed with the 1 votes, I get seriously a little peeved. I don't think we should take anything written here seriously. I take music seriously; but no statement about music should ever be taken seriously. We discuss for the sake of discussion. What a boring world it would be if we all agreed, singing kumbaya. I actually do not like agreement because it stifles discussion. I comment expecting major blowback, even vitriol against me. I like that. That's why we comment.
But when I see people giving 1s for no friggin' reason other than a band is successful. Bullshit. Rant over. Back to the music...

Dang, I just like their sound...
No. This is an unfortunate case of shout loudly, play loudly and earnestly, and enough people will be convinced. However, I and seemingly various other commentators (this encourages me) have not been sucked in. Not very good. I'll give them 3 for effort. This is the grumpy face.

Although I prefer the Avett Brothers and wish they were as successful as Mumford & Sons, I am happy for these boys. And I am very stoked that my 19 year old daughter likes them vs the real crappy music out there that she could be listening to.

Impressive band. but a little seems to go a long ways.
This is the second or third worse song on the album. It's difficult to listen to because he IS YELLING INSTEAD OF SINGING! 5
Stil cant get my head round this lot.........

Excessive popularity, while not "a sin", can often be pretty annoying. I think a lot of this band's detractors are simply annoyed by what can seem like the inescapable omnipresence of this band. These guys don't really annoy me, but I'm not going to rush out to buy their music either. However, I don't think musical snobbery is necessarily age-related: I know plenty of older folks who have nothing but disdain for any music made after 1972 or so.

I wasn't looking at the computer when this song came on-thought it was an unheard Steppenwolf tune
Did I say "marginal"? God, that was generous. We've gone beyond "Bad Lyrics" day on RP; we've arrived at "Bad Lyrics Day w/ Bad Vocals".
Hunhh? Quite marginal.

I appreciate their energy. I have not bought the album yet. I will. I am so glad we have RP. RP ignores the negative too-cool hip tools out there and lets me decide for myself.
I heard a brand new Muse song today off their new CD. I have long loathed Muse but after hearing an incredible new song by them I just ordered it. Muse and M and Sons are 1 and 2 on the charts this week. What a great world we live in.

I recognize many of my esteemed fellow listeners fail to grasp the visceral joy Mumford exudes in their music. Perhaps they have difficulty connecting with that part of their being. Too bad. The band is a blast to see, great to hear and will be with us, hopefully with the energy and artistry of Babel, for a long, long time. And I for one am just giddy with that prospect!
fun song...I like this band!
I don't have anything against Mumford, their music is okay. But, I hear them all the freakin' time anymore and I'm sick of them. Please STOP! They aren't that good.
Was on mute during this song as I had a phone call. But, it's Mumford. Automatic 1.

Bleech! These guys are a gimmicky group, some overused banjos and pompous lyrics and terrible overwrought singing. The emperor has no clothes. Sorry to all who enjoy them, I'm annoyed at the attention and air time they get on my local station that I listen to when not on on RP.
Just to correct the commentator, he says 'Bay Bel' not 'Baa Bel'. Beats me but thats the lyrics :)
