I really want to like this but it's too slow.

I was familiar with the Moby and Johnny Cash versions so I had to look it up. It's an old folk song with the first recorded rendition dating back to 1949, which Moby samples here. I learned something new!

From Wikipedia
"God's Gonna Cut You Down" (also known as "God Almighty's Gonna Cut You Down", "God's Gonna Cut 'Em Down", "Run On" and "Sermon") is a traditional American folk song. As "Run On For A Long Time", it was released in 1949 by Bill Landford & The Landfordaires.

Repetitive,
Repetitive,
Repetitive,
For a Long Time...!

Just wailing the whole time, can't stand that scratchy Janis Joplin sound. But that's just me.
I like Moby a lot and usually his repetitiveness-style fits my mood, but the singer in this one really gets on my nerves...

I think both artists have merit, but Moby is definitely more my taste.  That said, I think you have a skewed view regarding Moby's impact and popularity.

Gold & Platinum - Moby - RIAA

Gold & Platinum - Eminem - RIAA

Play was hugely popular when it came out, and went 2x platinum in two years.  But Moby hasn't had a platinum record since.

Eminem on the other hand, has pages and pages of multiplatinum albums and singles, with The Marshall Mathers LP going 11x platinum.

Interesting. Soulful.
It is extremely Moby to get this recording released on Deutsche Grammophon. None more Moby.
sweet dick hall
Wow! Way to resurrect and then breathe new life into a dusty Moby nugget like this one.

WOW!  I get to write the first post.  Only 14 minutes and 50 seconds to go for my "Warhol" moment of fame.
Now that that's done and dusted, I'll put in my 2 cents worth on the song (cliches are abounding):  I'm no longer amazed when I hear an  ear-catching song on RP where Moby is the listed artist.  He is obviously much respected in the music world to have such a wide range of excellent vocalists teaming up with him.  This song is no exception.
Danielle Ponder is one of the top "new"(?) vocal artists to arrive on RP in my humble opinion, and I look forward to each new song she sings, as they go instantly onto my RP Playlist.
