Waiting for the moon to come and light me up inside,
And I am waiting for the telephone to tell me I'm alive,
Well, I heard you let somebody get their fingers into you,
It's getting cold in California, I guess I'll be leaving soon.
Daylight fading, come and waste another year,
All the anger and the eloquence are bleeding into fear,
Moonlight creeping around the corners of our lawn,
When we see the early signs that daylight's fading,
We leave just before it's gone.
Yeah well, she said, everybody loves you,
She says, everybody cares,
But all the things I keep inside myself,
They vanish in the air,
If you tell me that you'll wait for me,
I'll say I won't be here,
I want to say goodbye to you,
Goodbye to all my friends,
Goodbye to everyone I know.
Daylight fading, come and waste another year,
All the anger and the eloquence are bleeding into fear,
Moonlight creeping around the corners of our lawn,
When we see the early signs that daylight's fading,
We leave just before it's gone.

My thoughts exactly. Just can't like them.

Do any CC haters out there like other bands that are similarly melancholic?
I have a completely irrational reason for not liking them - the guitarist's attire and floppy hippy hair and their well meaning but whiney songs. I don't hate them I just don't light up when they are played. Maybe it's because I'm from Santa Cruz, where every hippy lived in Canoga Park before attending university here and now they're all up in arms about causes that they just heard about yesterday. And Counting Crows reminds me of that. Like I said, totally irrational but I went to school with them kind and can't.. let.. it.. go....
I do like other melancholic bands, like Soundgarden and Simon and Garfunkle (sp?).

What a joke. Especially after PJ.
what a great band!!!,, what ever happened to these guys,, havent heard anything from them in years
I love this band...but I'm a depressing b******. lol.
I don't care! I love this song!!! So there!
Don't go back to Rockville, and waste another year.

The harmonies of Counting Crows always strike a sentimental chord in my heart--that was one of the main "sounds" of the mid-90s--a very, very wonderful time for me in many ways. But especially socially. I miss my social circle from those days.
what a waste of a cool guitar sound...
These guys thankfully didn't last long, they had a few things to say and then moved on.
Thankfully.
What a rot-assed band.
Not the best Counting Crows song, but still one I like. I just like their stuff in general. This is the kind of thing I come to Radio Paradise to hear.

Exactly!! hahahhahah
buzzKILL!
if i was raving to someone about RadioParadise, as i often do, and they fired it up and the first thing they heard was counting crows, i would be MORTIFIED and wouldn't blame them for never trusting my judgment on anything ever again
how did they ever make it here? mystifying, truly
Hootie and the Blow Crows...
CC is one of my favorite bands and this song in particular I love. Adam Durtiz's lyrics about running from place to place, to or away from women and experiences, have always stuck a chord with me. His plaintive vocal melodies are often moving, though I do agree that sometimes, particularly on August and Everything After, he does "whine" a bit much by drawing out the ends of songs with his expressive" vocal blatherings. Too much sometimes, even for me.
Funny enough, most CC fans consider their first album their favorite, since it's probably the first one they were exposed to, but I didn't get into them until This Desert Life and I like their first album the least. Having said that, part of the appeal of CC is that each album is dependably good and spaced far enough apart where you don't get sick of hearing the similarities from album to album so soon.

Close. It reeks of those kids you describe who then don knitted caps and forgo showers to gain some kind of pseudo-street cred.

not very male bands get the "pathos" thing right. Counting Crows comes pretty close.
I've heard this song way too many times already, but it's still a great tune. 8
OK song as far as Counting Crows goes. I think just about any song from "August and Everything After" beats this by a yard, an other top ten "desert island" album pick, solid from start to finish.
Most excellent roots rock! Love it!
I'd never thought about it before, but this really sounds like Adam's tribute to Tom Petty. I think it's one of their best, though I do agree about the uniformity of their songs and the whininess of the vocals.

I always thought that this song had a Neil Young type of sound to it.My favourite Counting Crows song so far.

yay some good, old, Counting Crows...can't go wrong adding in some more CC :-)
Thanks!
I heard it, but only parts of it, something is wrong with the connection :S
Still, many thanks to you RP.
Much love from me!
Please-please play this song dear Bill.
My favorite CC song...the best!
I am discovering how nice is the Playlist section and the forum what comes with it. And I am realizing again and again, how wonderful is RP!
