We run out of luck, we run out of days
We run out of gas a hundred miles away
From a station
There's a war and a plague, smoke and disaster
Lions in the coliseum, screams of laughter
Motherless children, a witness and a bible
Nothing but rain ahead and no chance for our survival
Just before the flood comes
Just before the night falls
Just before the blood runs
Into the valley
Just before my eyes go
Just before we can't go
No further
Love throws a line to you and me
I heard someone calling me from very far away
Sister, oh sister, did I hear them say?
Prisoner of this endless story of pain
You hold the key, try to find the way
Just before the flood comes
Just before the night falls
Just before the blood runs
Into the valley
Just before my eyes go
Just before it all blows
To pieces
We see love throw a line to you and me
Love throw a line
Love throw a line
Love throw a line
Love throw a line
Love, you better pick up your pace
If we're going to win this race
Love, we're running out of time
Pull yourself up from behind
Love throw a line
Love throw a line
Love throw a line
Love throw a line
awful
you're kidding me? You didn't wait until the end of the song to draw that conclusion, wizard.
i would put patty on stage with paul simon. because of her lyrical range and the fact that she is a hell of a guitar player. their vocal compatibility is a given, they combine the private with the public, plus they would look cute together, sharing a secret "i'm so stoked," between songs, about how stunned the audience looked.
not to be forgotten,
with james mcmurtry i have put nancy griffith.
with nancy griffith i have put steve earle.
with steve earle i have put julie miller.
with julie miller i have put townes van zant
and with townes i have put patty griffin.
note to RP old timers — do we have a thread like this, fantasy football only with music ? dream concerts? etc. because i think we would fill that rascal up...
fun post....good stuff...more like this...less grousing
Lions in the coliseum, screams of laughter
Motherless children, a witness and a bible
Nothing but rain ahead and no chance for our survival"
And Gawd almighty don't it probably feel like that if you're living out West these days?
Or in hurricane assaulted coastal areas?
These are days of dazed confusion.
The flood has come. only not quite as predicted.
Fires blot out the night.
Some scream for water; and others wish for less of it.
Blood it runs everywhere.
The future has come in like the leading edge of a tsunami.
It will not be denied, as it sweeps aside all that we know and love.
We certainly need a life line.
But there's not a one to be found.
except in this.
We're all on our own folks, and it's only in working together
that we can craft a line that saves all our sorry asses
from becoming victims to all that we have done.

Funny....I was hearing touches of a couple of female country artists.
Maine. But to me she sounds southernish somehow. Go figure.
Don't really see the connection....and she ain't young....which is one thing I LOVE about her
She's only got a few years on me, so either she's not old or I am old.

She has much the same feeling as James McMurtry. He's a bit more offbeat but they'd make a duo...
Choctaw lifebelt, it is then.

Bonnie is a bit more bluesy the Patty. Both great ginger singers, though I bet it Bonnie didn't color she would be white now.

i love patty very much. i love paul very much. unfortunately, that's where we stop meeting in agreement, here. i don't find their vocal "compatibility" a given at all. i don't think i'd like them together at all. but, sure, they'd look cute together...
unfortunately, as for the others you've matched - i'm not a big fan of any of those aside from townes.
however, if you haven't, i'd agree that it would be a fun thread to have on the chat comment forum. if you're still around, you should make this thread, i bet you'd get a lot of people to chime in.
