I remember when I was a kid back on Siesta key in the 80's, a new-age music store opened up in the village. They had CD's. Doing the most punk move ever, I stole a Furs CD and loved it...but I always felt guilty about it. Soon after the store closed. It was pretty sad. Now-a-days I go back to the Key to visit and all they have now is that awful Margaritaville songs everywhere...Lesson learned

Richard Butler's vocals are timeless.  From the early 80's and still performing with the Fur's in 2023.  I saw them in the mid 80's in D.C. and then again in 2009, in Atlanta. Newer band members, but sounding the same.  Richard Fortus, the guitarist he had in his fantastic other band, Love Spit Love, helps out on the latest Fur's lp, when he isn't out touring the world with GnR's.  I have everything the Furs, LSL and his solo work. Richard is a true British gem.

I love both bands and am embarrassed to admit that I never drew that connection between them- but it all definitely follows a train of thought, doesn't it?

On another note- this particular Furs album really sounds like the end of an era, and a course correction after Midnight to Midnight.

These guys created some pretty great music than would be more highly regarded if it wasn't labeled with the shame of  the 80's, which some folks automatically deem as being inherently inferior.  I'd counter than their stuff has proven to transcend the era of its creation...

James was so good at the Philly Show that I left halfway through the furs show, and I really like the Furs.

I seem to post this whenever a Furs song comes on RP, but do yourselves a favor and check out Richard Buter’s self-titled solo album from about 10 years back. It’s wonderfully deep and shows more range than he exercised with the Furs. One of my favorite “unknown” albums of all time.

Blimey, we're banging this morning, Mr G.  Delerium "Monarch" - Gabriel "Feeling Begins" - Furs "House".  Cracking set from the start to build the backdrop to our sunny, freezing morning here in the UK.  No other channel for me, these days.  I hope you continue until I go deaf, at least.  I hope my kids pick up the RP baton and run with it.

I saw the Furs at the Orpheum in Boston, and the sound mix was the worst I have ever experienced.  Eardrum piercing shrill and loud - it was okay in the lobby.

September 22nd, 1984, All ages show - Psychedelic Furs with Ministry - Aragon Ballroom, Chicago (the old pop Ministy, not the death drill Ministry - eesh) Having just been fired from my job at McDonald's, I suddenly found myself with a free evening and an opportunity to go with Chip and Cathy to see the Furs at the Aragon. New Wave had yet to reach its peak, Pretty in Pink was a twinkle in John Hughs' eye. Lots of people thought the Furs were "punk rock". With my Levi's carefully rolled up, folded over, and tucked into my white Nike high-tops, I put on my matching Levi's jacket, combed my hair up as big and fluffy as it would go, and waited for them to pick me up. Cathy and Chip looked like Alannah Curry and Joe Leeway of Thompson Twins, circa Here's to Future Days Once inside the crowded, smoky, beer-soaked venue, we worked our way upstairs in time to catch the last chorus of WORK - for Love, Ministry's "hit". Richard Butler was the show, smoking and preening all the way, but Mars, John Ashton and the others ran through their new "Mirror Moves" album with great authority and looked totally cool in the process. At least I guess they did - I spent half the show making eyes at the coolest looking girl in the whole place - and for one of those rare, beautiful times in my life, this girl was doing the same!! There's something eerie about putting on a Furs t-shirt this morning, coming to work and then hearing a Furs song on RP. Too bad I can't get up and dance around (without the workmates getting worried).

This song always reminds me of flying off to Tahiti in a big French DC-10 with a close friend a few years back. Nothing to do with the tune or the lyrics ........ it was just on the headphones on the way over. It's amazing how a song can bring back such great memories .. wind surfing an exquisite tropical lagoon, dinner at Bloody Mary's, cruising the Society Islands....... :sunny.gif:
