In my (nowhere near humble) opinion Tori Amos is one of the few female musician/singers with mojo. I think that's
why so many people find her too hard to take. I, on the other hand, love it !

I'm not a fan of Tori or this song, but most "artists" are intrinsically self-indulgent.

I agree, Tori Amos can be self indulgent in her music but this is a great trak off the album. Yes, I'm a fan.

Nice album cover. I can picture it now... the artist sits down with Ms. Amos in front of his computer... pops in the CD to get a feel for it... opens the flatbed scanner... crams her face in it and starts slamming the lid. {#Lol}

A what? Trilogy I've heard of, trio even, but trifecta? Nice song, though - very Kate Bush-like (which will no doubt put many listeners off it). 7 from the Nottingham jury.

I've been a Tori Amos fan since her very first album, and I think this is one of her best songs.  It's certainly among my favourites.
Hmm.  For the first time since I've been listening to RP, a trifecta of three songs I dislike in a row showed up.  No worries, I'm sure things will change soon.

I know Tori has her fan(atics), but she just don't do it for me.  I know some of her background, and I respect her right to write songs however she wants, but for me the tortured artist vibe is just too strong, to the point where it becomes a caricature.  I try not to hate, but Lord it's tough sometimes.

I generally like listening to Tori (watching is, inexplicably, a different thing), but this piece is really terrible.

Can you say "abstract"? Heck, that's my fave thing about Tori. She's gone from a very straightforward "here's exactly what I'm singing about" to (for my ears) a very challenging and poetic use of language. In some cases, the words, and how they're spoken and produced, seems to be used as more of a musical instrument than a vocal. I've been fascinated by the evolution she's gone through, and pleased that (other than "1000 oceans") she hasn't tried to mutate her hard-built cult status into a mainstream success. I'd hope that, even if ya hate her, she'll be appreciated for trying to merge pop music sensibilities with art... there's not much challenge or abstraction on the radio these days, and much as I love me some plain old motown, it's nice to hear something big & different.
Very cool. The addition of a full backing band on this album makes for some impressive songs, this is definitely one of my favorites.
This would be a great song if it was a different song altogether sung by someone else. YUCK!!

The fast distorted part (that sounds like the product of her friendship with trent reznor) is great-- would be a good song if there was more of that and less of the rest of the song.

You know good question. Sad thing is the beat and rhythm is a first impression with me. Not that I don't eventually listen to lyrics. Tori's lyrics are always worthwhile for me to "get to know" on a later basis I guess.
Definitely one of my favorite Tori songs.

hmmm, that's the same reason i like her. and Kristin Hersh, M. Stipe and all those other opaque, poetic lyricists. but that's just me

I know I keep talking about it but on VH1 Storytellers she did a terrific version of this song. The chitchat before the tune was interesting as well.
