Laissez les bons temps rouler!  Mr. Dave was the best!

And now Brother David is gone.
R.I.P. David.

I know I could suggest a dozen David Lindley songs, in addition to this. It's just fun, and grooving in that most excellent Mr. Dave way. RIP Mr. Dave, I'm glad I saw you 3 times in PA.

You lucky duck.  I wish that I could have seen him too!   May he Rest in Peace!!

"Joc-a-mo-fee-no-ah-nah-nay, Joc-a-mo-fee-nah-nay" is a ritual chant used by the Mardi Gras Indians which has been around for so long the words are no longer clearly distinguishable, and it has a well understood meaning of its own. Very, very loosely translated it signifies "we mean business" or "don't mess with us".

he was a good’n
Yup, in agreement with the comments about "Iko Iko".
Sadly, Brother David is also gone.  RIP David and thanks for the great music.
theres a wonderfully joyous conga line forming to my left and we're all shaking our butts and tapping our feet here
Reminded me of my brother who passed this year. My brother John is gone, but never forgotten.
This guy is Crazy Cool! I like this tune!!  Thank You RP!
That blazing guitar!  The Dumble-bloom!
Ouch.
Did the Nevilles do this?
Great as solo musician and also as sideman with Jackson Browne and Warren Zevon.

Ages ago (late 70s) I saw a couple Lindley shows - he'd blow into town and hit the pawn shops, buying the ugliest guitar he could find. He'd get some new strings, do a few repairs if necessary, then play it on a couple tunes that night. At the end of the show he'd give it away.

I wonder where those guitars are?

Anyway, he's a phenomenal musician, one of those rare talents like Ry Cooder.

I love this...and Mr. Dave!

Exactly!
More Cajun music, s'il vous plait!!
Dude, you got to face up to it - he's gone!
(Puffs cheeks out.)

Fabulous music! All day RP has been playing the best music ever!!

totally agree. i'm not familiar with David Lindley's music but there's no way it's a 5.5. An easy 8 for me!

Just listen to anything by Jackson Browne and you'll get a good dose of Lindley.
Just fun! And awesome gitfiddle.

too funny....I was going to post nearly the same thing!  So....to change it up slightly; I had this quirky track rated at 7 and based on the grooviness factor, I bumped it to an 8.   SMH at the LOW 5.7 avg rating....still smh....

Long Live RP and PEACE too!!  (and how come 'grooviness' isn't a word, eh?)

It was 11 years ago today that my brother John died.  Thanks for reminding me (really).
David Lindley

Invited to every LA Picker party

Went home alone every time

Dude is way better than this song
caught groovin!  promoted to 8
I've seen Mr. Dave a few times but the best was one sweltering night in Toronto at the old Bamboo on Queen W. What a band. What a show.

Album cover,10 for sure.

voice sounds like Joe Walsh
I have this on LP.  My toe is tapping and my head is bobbing.  I need more of his stuff in my collection.

Rock on!
{#Jump} great stuff, love him with x rayo
David Lindley's a badass on the slide.  That's enough reason to listen to this .
cliche
give us the ole original Crescent City R and B
So THIS is how you reward the Faithful- the aging Deadheads who coughed-up from their friggin' Social Security checks to keep RP on the air? WELL DONE! THANKS MAN!

On my way to see David Lindley at Benaroya Hall in Seattle this very moment when this song came on. One of my all time heroes doing an all time great song from the Wild Tchoupoutoulis. Now listen to THEIR version.
I'd recognize that crazy dirty slide sound anywhere.
Cookin breakfast to this song puts a smile on my face
Mr. Dave! {#Boohoo}{#Bananajam}
Love this record....

He is one of a kind and well worth seeing if you get the chance. Much better now he's older, yeah yeah we all like to believe that, but in his case it's true.

Long Live El Rayo-X!!

Never had so much fun at a show.
(And you just gotta dig that chord Mr. Dave is stretching on the cover if this over-the-top album~)
For real? This on RP..? Ugh.

Damn! Your tush has a volume control?

Come to think of it though, mine does have a mind of its own, so why not?.

Awesome!  boppin my naked tush around the kitchen with the volume cranked, thank you!
God forbid that we would have to live one life through without David Lindley. Very greasy.

Sentimental 8/10

Wish I'd caught him at the Oregon Country Fair a few years back. Does he tour constantly?

If repetition bothers you, then perhaps music is not for you. Given your history I might suggest something banal like You Tube is more your speed.
Have a nice day, somewhere else.

Lindley provided the wail in a lot of Jackson Brown's early good albums, so not completely unknown. When he started trotting out solo albums, it was a bit of disappointment, but he still lays down some mean slide guitar.

This song would be better if they edited out the vocals.

Never heard of him. Even after reading a few books about music "coming of age" on the west coast in the 70's. Makes me think of Little Feat though.

Has this guy always been a side man? Or does he have some significant songwriting credits?

Lindley is a fairly unknown guy that is well known in the musical community. He has played with alot of the top artists and has had his own bands. He has earned the respect of being a very good slide player and tho from cali has done alot of cajun music.

How can this tune possibly be rated a 5 and 1/2??? People, people, people. Mr. Dave is the Man!!! (Wasting my breath here, I guess). A 10 from me.

This puts the F in Funky!
If I had money, I tell you what I'd do, I'd go on out and buy a Mercury too.
Reminds me of the Neville Brothers....  Okay for background, but would become annoying if played often...  a 7 for now...
I'm usually not this dismissive, but yuck.

Well, I found it sort of dull, that's all. Maybe he's better live.
Repetitive and annoying.

I can never get enough of David Lindley. An amazing musician that you must see live to truly appreciate. The guy plays every stringed instrument know to man.

What on Kronos are we listening to? I keep looking around for the retirement home conga line. Cheeseballish, juvenile, and muteworthy at best.

Very true.  This makes Jimmy Buffett look positively wild & crazy by comparison.

Great guitar work, great groove overall. I'd love to hear this one live.
That's 10 points,OK?!
Happy upbeat tune, but endless in the same way as Bob Marley.
Almost anything David Lindley touches is gold as far as I can hear, and this old stuff is highly worthwhile. But some of the newer stuff would be most welcome.
I Loooooooooove this record. Meestah Daaave rocks.

Umm, it's David Lindley. You know, THE David Lindley. This is a knockoff tune that use about 1/1000000th of his abilities and it's still better than most stuff you hear. I'm not particularly crazy about it, but c'mon.
The magic of the entire album is that if it were released today, it would be a hit. Timeless wonder.
new orleans kitsch sounds like a commercial for Popeyes chicken
You can never play too much DL! More Please

I second this . . . whatever it means.
What's the title of this song again? I seem to have missed it.

Ditto - Lindley's always welcome around here.
A bit subdued compared to the Wild Tchopitoulas' version.

Didn't Jackson say David can sing 'Take it Easy' in Cantonese? You got that one, Bill?

Um, Jackson Browne perhaps?
i think this song suffers the harsh existence of following michael hedges "because it's there" in the playlist. to me, this highlights the lack of technical content in the song... sorry...

AMG shows it written by by one of the Nevilles and recorded by David Lindley and El Rayo X in 82. The Neville Brothers recorded it in 86, but an earlier version shows to have been recorded by Wild Tchopitoulas in 76, re-released in 99 and 2000, and a later version by Poorboys in 96. https://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&uid=UIDSUB020405221716313219&sql=6Brother|John
