Breathe it in and breathe it out
And pass it on, it's almost out
We're so creative, so much more
We're high above but on the floor
It's not a habit, it's cool, I feel alive
If you don't have it you're on the other side

The deeper you stick it in your vein
The deeper the thoughts, there's no more pain
I'm in heaven, I'm a god
I'm everywhere, I feel so high

It's not an habit, it's cool, I feel alive
If you don't have it you're on the other side
I'm not an addict, maybe that's a lie

It's over now, I'm cold, alone
I'm just a person on my own
Nothing means a thing to me
Oh, nothing means a thing to me

It's not a habit, it's cool, I feel alive
If you don't have it you're on the other side
I'm not an addict, maybe that's a lie

Free me, leave me
Watch me as I'm going down
Free me, see me
Look at me, I'm falling and I'm falling

It is not a habit, it is cool I feel alive, I feel
It is not a habit, it is cool I feel alive

It's not a habit, it's cool, I feel alive
If you don't have it you're on the other side
I'm not an addict, maybe that's a lie
I'm not an addict
I'm not an addict
I'm not an addict

Had the speakers down low and thought I heard "I'm not a maggot."  Had to double check what was playing.

Same again today. I think Bill must like playing these songs back to back. Not complaining, I love them both!

I bought this album years ago and loved it!  No one that I was friends with could understand why I loved them so much, but I didn't care.  I'm cranking this shit out of this one!

The opening/intro ruins it for me.
I haven't hard this song since it was heavy rotation at a Dallas radio station where I worked in the mid 90s. Blast from the past. I must say absence made the heart grow fonder (but hearing it three or more times a day would make one reach for a syringe).
love this song, never heard it before, thanks :-)  But I didn't really listen to the words just the guts in the voice

If you're easily sold by this song, it almost makes drug addiction sound fun.

All the same, good song.

For me it's just the opposite.  You hear all the excuses, why it's cool, why it's okay, why outsiders wouldn't understand.  Then it's followed up by the nagging ever present voice in the back of your head.  That little lie you tell yourself; "I'm not an addict."

Yeah, the voice has a similar rasp. I like 'em both. I'd like to hear Amy and Emily rock like this too.

Yes...the addict song.  Still like it - the lyrics are painful when you think of how may addicts there are.

I remember this song from high school. I didn't like it then either.

Or french. Same, after all these years. (and I didn't know they were belgians). I guess I know them from RP.

I try to be open-minded & positive too but Ethan I'm with you 100%
ugh

Like this song but hated the rest of the album.

Great song from a great  band from Belgium. Excellent Choice!
Always loved this song! Good choice.
Yea, this song never quite clicked with me.

Hilarious.  I think I know what he/she was trying to say, however...

Lennon's 'Cold Turkey' would suit me just fine about now

As many others have stated, great set/theme here, Bill!

Others with the same theme, for consideration -

"Basement Apt." - Sarah Harmer
"That Smell" - Lynyrd Skynyrd ("Needle And The Spoon" by them would work well, also)
"Hurt" - NIN or Johnny Cash
"Life By The Drop" - SRV
"Purple Rain" - Hendrix
"Mother's Little Helper" - Stones

I know there are tons of other ones that I'm missing, but thought I'd throw these out there...

Ethan,,, Perhaps its your music receptors that are mal functioning causing the internal bleeding ??

vocals remind me of Chrissie Amphlett of Divynals fame?  {#Whisper}
"I'm automatic, baby that's a lie!"

I love misheard lyrics! {#Lol}
Pretty monotonous, really.

Me, you and huebdoo....

So that went from Polly Jean singing, to an addict singing about Polly, to two songs about addiction.  Man, I love this station.

I think I used to dislike this song a great deal. Now I'm more "meh" about it. It's not great. But it reminds me of high school.

And again.
And great it is.

Hot Diggidy Dang! I finally got my 10 ratting into the '90s!
Great song to get rid of the afternoon spleepies.  Headphones on and very loud.  Head bouncing.  {#Dancingbanana_2}{#Drummer}
Then Bill could slip in the Angel song by Black Crowes....

lyrics too graphic/dull melody

Old line up, but cool song.
This one reminds me of the Divinyls.

{#Think}

I find it strange that anyone could dislike this song — let alone dislike it so strongly. Heck, even the song's rating distribution pretty much proves this song ain't exactly polarizing. It must be something that happened in your particular childhood. . . ;-)

cool song

...back when i used to hear this on terrestrial radio i thought it was i'm automatic... ...innocent minds can be oblivious at times; the actual lyrics make much more sense...

I get the drift of the set but God this is a dirgey tune.

Cool to hear this song again - been a loooong time since i heard it last. Still love it.
Cold turkey has got me on the runnnnnn

This one always worked for me, maybe for the sole reason that it seemed memorable the very first time I heard it. And I haven't heard it in about five years.

Maybe she helps rehabilitate drug addicts. Just because she's a nun doesn't mean she's an idiot.

This song seems to effortlessly bridge the gap between grunge and emo - a nice trick. Haven't heard it in ages, thanks for spinning this.
Sounds like the Cranberries after a hard night of booze & cigs...
Is this the girl from Indigo Girls?
Tell me about it! I haven't heard this since...I don't want to count the years. djblitz wrote:

True, but that doesn't make the song any good, unfortunately.
This is sooooooooooo played out. Please retire this one.
whiny. cliche. next!

i agree...love the song...the builds, the ups & downs...yes it's a very simple song musically...but there's more to it than just playing 3 chords...
This song (actually, this entire CD) is a guilty pleasure for me, but it's a pleasure nonetheless.

same here.... on all counts.
Musically and lyrically the tone is right on. I can really sense the desperation in her voice. She's trying to convince herself that what's obviously true is not the case. Good stuff.
Plateau to Not An Addict to The Needle and the Damage Done... Nice. :) I love Not An Addict. Apart from the message, it's got a really haunting power to it, and all that aside, it's a good cathartic sing-along song for being angry in your car.

I agree. This song is seemingly simple, yet quite thoughtful. I certainly don't feel it is being overplayed, btw. Good to hear this now and then.

Oops. I'd always thought this was Garbage. This is almost as bad as the time I thought John Fogerty was singing, "There's a bathroom/On the right."

I agree entirely (well almost). I hated it when it was played on Big Corporate Radio years ago, and I hate it still. but i definitely remember thinking that exact same thing back then - "how the hell did this high-school band get a recording contract? just because they sing about being addicts, and that's the hip thing to do right now?" not so good.

Didn\'t like this song much the first several times I heard it. Strange, it eventually broke me down. Not so sure about the lack of creativity during the chorus (I hate when bands grab one or two power chords and play the same quarter notes over and over again for 12 bars) Remove the guitar and this is a sweet song (maybe would have worked better acoustic).
