Back home
And take it easy
There's a woman that
I'd like to get to know
Living there
Everybody seems to wonder
What it's like down here
I gotta get away
From this day-to-day
Running around
Everybody knows
This is nowhere
Everybody, everybody knows
Everybody knows
Every time I think about
Back home
It's cool and breezy
I wish that I could be there
Right now
Just passing time
Everybody seems to wonder
What it's like down here
I gotta get away
From this day-to-day
Running around
Everybody knows
This is nowhere
Everybody, everybody knows
Everybody knows
As an ex hi- fi professional, given the right equipment 192 kbs Ogg Vorbis is quite stunning. I listen to it via a Bluesound Node 2, Audiolab MDAC and Hifiman HE 400i headphones which as a system is very revealing. At no time have I felt I was missing anything at all. In fact I can say the same about 256 kbs AAC files too. Higher bitrates etc might be very sublty more detailed etc but frankly the law of diminishing returns applies. I have tried the higher bitrate streaming services and just keep coming back to RP not least for the suberb varied and high quality music. It really does not get any better!
is that like the retro encabulator?
Everybody Knows… Leonard Cohen does it better
Was always a fan, but find it too difficult to listen to him now. History will not be favourable to him, as is the case for many of us. Go ahead and downvote me, don't care.
Nothing easier than a self-fulfilling prophecy... congratulations.
At 64 I'm having a staggering moment, (been a hell of a Christmas) and cooking with the hubs and loving hearing this. So many memories...
Is that Jack Russel on album cover?
Nope, pretty sure it's Neil. ; )
Is that Jack Russel on album cover?
Or in Neil's case, trans-Great-Lakes-ism.
Is that Jack Russel on album cover?
I don't think. A bit too lean and a bit too big of a frame to be a Jack Russell. I'm looking into dog breeds for one to adopt when I finally get out of NYC later in '21. A Jack Russell is a big dog in a little body, and that Neil dog looks like a littler dog in a bigger body.
it's Jack brother "Fred"
Nick Danger, Third Eye- we need you now more than ever!
NO ONE LIKES YOU
It is meaningless when you're perpetuating even more gratuitous wars and needless carnage (Obama) than your far right-wing, "Ah'm a WAR Presnit!" predecessor.
Then a couple years after getting the Nobel, you stand at a podium and say, "We tortured a few folks."
Yes, it's meaningless.
You don't get retroactively evaluated for a Nobel.
The Nobel Prize was for being a black man elected as the leader of an incorrigibly racist country. One that is even worse in this regard now. That and the fact that at the time he was fighting to give health care to all Americans (whether or not you believe in the result).
Those achievements were unlocked at the ballot box in 2008, in part because of his war presnit predecessor, and in his first year in office. Hence the award at that time.
50 years and still timeless... A true classic
This came out when I was in college - and I sang it often while staggering back from downtown.
It's a GREAT song for such situations.
The harmony's great on my ears, too!
I wonder if Neil is ok with the fact that this song is being played at 192k quality or even lower. I understand from interviews that he is so disappointed with the sound quality that streaming services offer that he removed almost all of his songs from Spotify.I deeply regret that and I really don't understand. After all the "trashy garage sound" is his more or less his trademark. So what is he aiming for? To promote this Pono-thing? I can hardly believe this.
Neil is, uh, confused on this point. Excellent overview here: https://xiph.org/~xiphmont/demo/neil-young.html
Despite my comments below, I think you make a valid point. Having read his lengthy biography I know that he was never after high fidelity in the recording studio, particularly in his early recordings, so it does seem a bit odd that he is now concerned about improving on mp3 technology. In the end, if Pono sounds better than the mp3 alternatives, then I guess the inspiration behind it is moot. At least people have a choice now.

Good second effort, that first LP was good, too. I've said it before Neil is my hero!!

I guess people would rather listen to crap mp3s than quality.
McDonalds sells lots of hamburgers, if you know what I mean.
Me too, me too
and meeee!
Me too, me too

Yes, it's meaningless.
I used to live in the middle of Nowhere (as an adult.) I'm very happy I no longer do, but then again I grew up in big cities and am used to the anonymity of crowds.
One of the greatest of all time, just saying...
Guess that tells everybody how old I am.
Love this song by the way.
That's funny! And cool...

Or a bunch of beers, for that matter.
oh man, rebecca's voice over cut off the end of the song.....for shame! this happened earlier today on a mark knopfler cut.
facts.
Ah, so adorable. Now go put on your Bono pyjamas, it's past your bedtime.
nice retort...
piquant yet condescending...
a TAD different than DECADES of acclaim
by their peers
and their industry
and their fans
and the general public
of the WORLD
and being nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize is meaningless as well too I suppose...

Grammy Awards are absolutely meaningless. Do you remember a talentless hack named Christopher Cross? He probably won about ten Grammy Awards. What about Milli Vanilli? You are probably not old enough to remember those "legends", among many other travesties. The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Who, and The Clash have never won any Grammeys. The Beatles only won one during their time. I like Neil Young and I like U2, but it's pointless to compare them.
SIX Grammys for Chris all in the SAME YEAR...

Too bad their 'music' is complete shyte. All of it! Seriously they are the most overrated band in the history of music.
in your opinion...
facts seem to point elsewhere...
Let's review:
U2 has been awarded 22 Grammys (more than ANY rock artist EVER), been culturally relevant worldwide for DECADES, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility, throughout their career, as a band and as individuals, have campaigned for human rights and philanthropic causes, including Amnesty International, the ONE/DATA campaigns, Product Red, and The Edge's Music Rising which have helped COUNTLESS people.
The most visable member Bono has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, was granted an honorary knighthood by Queen Elizabeth II was named as a Person of the Year by Time, among other awards and nominations.

Neil Young is a decent songwriter, semi-famous Canadian (a LOT more famous in Canada) with TWO Grammys and overall a WHINY sounding singer with an "old soul"...
yeah.
right.
Bill should play TWENTY U2 songs after this...

A real old soul.
hope U2 arn't played after this, although that would show the two extremes. Beauty, truth and soul over corporate false pompous shit.

Good point, 9 —> 10.

Antelope Freeway 1 mile, Antelope 1/2 mile, Antelope Freeway, 1/4 mile, Antelope Freeway, 1/8 mile,..............
I've never heard this before. Seems like the odds of hearing it on the radio are pretty slim. I'm not singing. My soul is firmly in place and buckled.
God
Awful
Dribble
What was i saying about safe? Tes, let's hear the oldies, the ones like David Bromberg, from our long lost youth, but a bit more cutting edge required please (and yes, look at my top 50 and they are probably all 30 yr old songs!)
Still sounds fresh to me.
oh nicky nick nick, you are such a tool!
Don't crush that Dwarf. hand me the pliers.
Too repetitive for my tastes. Neil has certainly done better.

NO where How can you be somewhere when you are no where at all?Make it stop please!!!!
Looks like you are getting better!
Make it stop please!!!!
no surprise here. you're a big fan of quadrophenia, the most syrupy over-produced schlock of a one-time rock and rock band.
(is christopher cross on your list of 10s, too? and gordon lightfoot?)

Stop putting your fingers down your throat
A Day (or week, or month) without Neil Young = Call me crazy, but I think we'd get by
Make it stop please!!!!
