I know you're out there
You're in hiding
And you hold your meetings
I can hear you coming
I know what you're after
We're wise to you this time (wise to you this time)
We won't let you kill the laughter
Lunatic fringe
In the twilight's last gleaming
But this is open season
But you won't get too far
'Cause you've got to blame someone
For your own confusion
We're on guard this time (on guard this time)
Against your final solution
We can hear you coming (we can hear you coming)
No, you're not going to win this time (not gonna win)
We can hear the footsteps (we can hear the footsteps)
Hey, out along the walkway (out along the walkway)
Lunatic fringe
We all know you're out there
Can you feel the resistance
Can you feel the thunder
Devolving into politics. Moderator required now?
Just ..
listen and be still for 5 minutes
They can't help themselves.
Just ..
listen and be still for 5 minutes
If you turn it down a little- you wont have to yell!
Nope, leave it cranked up!

Power to the Music!
Reading the wiki notes on the lyrics, song now has a new level of respect from me:
"Lunatic Fringe", the band's most famous song, is about what composer Tom Cochrane saw as an alarming rise of anti-Semitism in the 1970s, and was inspired by a book he read about Raoul Wallenberg.
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Just ask Yeezy.

Not to be all contrary 3 years after the fact (which of course means that's what I'm going to do), but I'd vote White Hot as their most known song. Lyrics about the poet Jean Rimbaud and his time as a gun runner in Africa. As rock n' roll poetry, pretty compelling.
the banks, the fossil corporations, the 1%, and the terminally ignorant
vs.
the rest of life on the planet.
Now this is funny. You almost completely described the coalition of the Left who are pushing the climate hoax in order to control you. Nice! You're on the right track.
Plus this is still a great song.
EDIT: I meant the big corporations in general, not the oil companies. We are living in a worldwide corporatocracy that pulls the strings of almost all our world leaders at the moment. That's gonna have to change somehow.
Anti-Semitism is still rising!! It's the pinacle of what many conspiracy thinkers believed in the past and still believe today! Make Love, Not Hate
Haven't they gone anti-paedophile now?
Now there's nothing defensible about these people but the accusation of pedophilia has a distinct advantage that it can be tossed around conveniently with little or no proof....
Screw you. Are you listening right now, Leftie?
Now now, you've gone full MAGA.
Never go full MAGA.....
This song is feeling particularly relevant today here in Canada.
Does it feel like you've suddenly discovered that you're living above a meth lab?
Simply not accurate to imply there are only two "sides", unless you mean Democrat and Republican parties in USA politics, which in no way represent the majority of the world's citizens.
But taking your framing at face value, it is wilfully, farcically ignorant to claim that Democrats want to abolish fossil fuels. Rather, they merely insist on having a plan to gradually phase out fossil fuels and replace them with renewables, many of which are already cost-competitive with fossil fuels on a level (no-subsidies) playing field.
So does that mean that you think having a plan puts one on the lunatic fringe? Get back to me when you're ready for an intelligent, non-hyperbolic debate about our collective planetary future.
Seriously, these folks absolutely h8 welfare. Unless it is fossil fuel subsidies. Why not let all technologies compete with no corporate welfare and with an eye to the future of the planet. The die offs are happening all around us and the west is on fire AND running out of water at the same time. I guess only a Lunatic would want to do anything about it.
Your gullibility and ignorance are showing.
"I know you are, but what am I?" "I'm rubber, you're glue."
Grow up.
If you turn it down a little- you wont have to yell!
Hahaha!

xkolibuul about nails it, imho. One year later, after an endless series of super storms, droughts, fires, and floods--not to mention the Covid plague, I can't help but wonder whether jelgator's "two sides"are actually those who would attempt to destroy all life on the planet vs. those who would try to save what we can.
Message to jelgator and other climate change deniers: It has become painfully clear that we have to stop burning fossil fuels for energy. To sustain life on earth, we need a plan to transition to clean energy and conservation (of energy, of ecosystems). This won't happen overnight, but it must happen. The IPCC says we have about 8 years to get our act together.
Edit: I just saw that my comment got several thumbs down. <sigh> That makes my point that this is a life and death struggle between:
the banks, the fossil corporations, the 1%, and the terminally ignorant
vs.
the rest of life on the planet.
In no particular order, both the far right and far left both can suck it hard.
The vast majority who are at the sane center of things don't like none of y'all as all you do is scream hyperbolic talking points and injecting subterfuge, winding everyone up. Fuck you for that. Hannity, Cuomo, Tucker and Lemon, all four should be drowned together like a batch of ugly kittens. Aah, that felt good.
Angry much? Nope. Here in my purple neighborhood we all stand a little different on issues, but guess what; a democrat can still borrow a lawnmower from his republican neighbor and vice versa. Sun still rises in the east ans sets in the west, no matter how hard you want to believe whatever you what to believe.
But back to my original point; as long as we got shrill idiots who want to defund the police howling against the worshipers of the orange fatass and both Media Red and Media Blue gives them all a microphone we're getting nowhere as a country.
Yes, it's a tall order, but leave both the Woke PC idiots and the Trumper assholes behind and let's get shit done.
I agree that there should and can be more common ground. But your post fails in this regard - the Woke PC idiots never had any real power and were never close to imposing their ideas on the country. On the other hand the MAGA crowd came very close and is still threatening to impose the full wrath of their corruption on the rest of us. Right now moderate Democrats are calling the tune. Moderate elected republicans are an endangered species.
PC wokeness may exist in some corners, but is not a threat. While fear of PC wokeness is ginned up by the right wing propaganda machine to divide us.

I was curious about which 'lunatic-fringe' the song writer was referring to. There are plenty on both political sides. Might have been helpful to drop a few more hints in the song.
also
that it's ironic that Lunatic Fringe has generated the discussion that precedes this.
because no dem ever is a crim, huh? how many governors of La or Il got jailed now? How many of Dick's associates suicided after? Ain't like he was inpeached, then disbarred for lying under oath.
And boy howdy that Joe "Never Underestimate Joe's ability to Fuck shit up" Biden is doing our world standing and the world's economy so much good.
But hey, no bad tweets from Orangeman, though the Taliban has a Twitter Official account. The Adults supposedly in charge are Dementia riddled plagiarizing morons who have been wrong and every foreign policy stance since Tricky Dick's day (and very much basing decisions on Dicks poor foreign policies too by the by)
Have a nice day, too!
If I might interject some history: the Chinese negotiations to build trade alliance started with RICHARD NIXON(R) an impeached criminal… seems like a trend (R)’s being criminals and impeached. on this tune - reminds of Matthew Modine in Vision Quest! Great tune and a great film.

Nice response to the ultra-simplistic "your side" comment, xkolibuul!
Besides, it seems more and more evident to me that the D vs R distinction is only there to keep the populace at each others' throats and not aimed at those "in charge." I'm fully on the side of the PEOPLE.
Long Live RP and all the PEOPLE of the world!!
please, reserve your anger you programmed leftie! The Lunatic Fringe has been running this country into a subservient second class nation to China. Wake up before you're to woke to be saved! TRUMP WON!
Go away.

Can you feel the resistance?"

Given that your side wants to abolish fossil fuels, which are the basis of so many of our products that we rely on to survive, oh and which would eliminate air travel, I would ask:
Which side is the lunatic fringe?

Rolling Stone critic wannabe.

Which side is the lunatic fringe?
It wouldn't eliminate air travel (or any of the other things you don't enumerate) - rather it would force the aviation industry to develop other fuels (hydrogen) or use other types of aircraft (airships etc.).

Q says this is JFK Jr.'s favorite song.
"COME ON, Man! "
Yes something off The Wall
Ooh, I need a dirty woman......
a solid 9 based on pure nostalgia
+1 to 9 darnit! Cuz of the lyrics....i love the groove on this one...LLRP!!
Wait, what? This was on constantly on WRCN on Long Island back in the early 80s.
(edit: just read the wiki - WRCN was a total AOR station. Not that anyone under 40 knows what that means anymore)
Pick up "Songs of a Circling Spirit" it's my go to when auditioning speakers. When the sound stage is right, you can hear the depth of that recording.
Yes something off The Wall
Dwayne Glasscock lives!
The structure of this reminds me of a PF track I can't put my finger on.
Cool. The J. Geils Band part that is.
Maple Leaf Gardens, Halloween 72, they opened for Yes, Close to the Edge tour, didn't work for me!!!
Cool. The J. Geils Band part that is.
Long Live Canadian Rock!!!!
The lyrics clearly state:
"But you won't get too far
'Cause you've got to blame someone
For your own confusion
We're on guard this time
Against your final solution.
We can hear you coming.
No, you're not going to win this time."
Obviously, they got too far.
Obviously, we weren't on guard.
And obviously, they won.
At least this time.

We all know you're out there
Mainly because we see you on TV all the time and it appears that you are running for President.
yup, something rather Gilmorish in there. the sound, the rolling riff or the slide.....
Always thought this was Joe Walsh......
Thank you RP for setting me straight again
Bill..you in a nostalgic mood today? lol
