I made a bid for you -
You Know
Far as it was in me -
Somewhere to go
She goes - make my presence
Felt by
All the innocence you would destroy
She know - angels
And even devils too
All await to show
How far we come to joy
I'll live anywhere you think you're from
Far as it is in you
To know you belong
She go - make my presence
Felt by
All the revolution you employ
She know angels -
Even devils too
Await to show how far we go to joy
Go down to the water
With your rod
All that which ain't all good
Is yet all God
She goes
Make my presence
Felt by
All the innocence you would destroy
Angels
And even devils too
All await to show
How far we go to joy
She go
Make my presence
Felt by
By all the revolultion you would employ
She know
Angels
And even devils too
All wait to show
How far we go to joy
How far we come
How far we've come
You Know
Far as it was in me -
Somewhere to go

I love Chris Whitley. I actually wasn't familiar with this posthumous album.
His daughter is also a force to be reckoned with. She was part of Daniel Lanois' Black Dub project. I've uploaded tracks from that album, but they haven't been accepted. It's a mystery to me why, considering how strong a presence Lanois is on RP, and how amazing Black Dub is.

Another good one from RP
Man, I sure do miss Chris Whitley on this earth making his music!

Wow, new to me as well, but I was fortunate enough to catch CW at a small show (Smart Bar, cousin to Metro) in Chicago back in early nineties. He wrung his guitar dry. As you say, "distinctive", a quality in short supply these days.
This is "new" Chris Whitley for me. Such a distinctive voice and sound. More, more, more!

Agreed, requesting some kind soul to upload more CW.
I also request more of Chris Whitley!!

Love it when someone takes the tired blues trad and does something new with it!

For some INSANE Dobro guitar work and blues from him, explore his Living with the Law album. Every track amazing.

The man left his mark on the world. (At least on mine.) That's about all any of us can ask for.
Excellent artist. But this is a collab with a DJ. For some INSANE Dobro guitar work and blues from him, explore his Living with the Law album. Every track amazing. Dave Mathews a big fan of Chris and later signed him to his indie label.
Definitely what's missing on RP.....need more Chris Whitley! This tune is not his best for sure, but an awesome musician who deserves more airplay here for sure. May he R.I.P.

Oh, rats, didn't know he had passed. This was one of the first songs I noticed on RP way back when I first started listening to internet radio - helped convince me that this was the place to hang out.

Reminds me faintly of Bowie's Golden Years, and I like it as much.

Chris Whitley is my all-time favorite "sleeper" artist. That is, he's the one musician that I recommend to music-savvy friends. THey invariably love him as much as I do.
Yea, the whole friggin album is great!! Always been one of my personal favs, glad to see it represented here!

Bill, how about playing something from War Time Blues.

Saw him live some years ago. Just a man with his guitar and a stomp-box. Impressing
I gotta say—everthing I hear from Chris Whitley I like. Man could bring it.

CHRIS WHITLEY 1960 - 2005
We are deeply saddened to confirm the passing of singer-songwriter, guitarist, and recording artist Chris Whitley. Chris was a kind man and immensely talented artist whose music has become an intimate part of many of our lives. We are pained to acknowledge this loss and we grieve along with those who knew and loved him and his music.
Say what you like, he was an inspired original.
Ordering from Amazon in 3,2,1.....
More Chris Whitley, please.
Thank you.

anybody that puts thier kids artwork on an album cover deserves at least a 7
Hey! He's doing a cover of Loreena McK doing a cover of Lighting Hopkins ... with a couple of Middle Eastern noisemakers tossed in.
Cool!
Mmmmm, bling, mmmmm, bling, mmmmm, bling, mmmmm, bling, mmmmm, bling... rated 3.
Hm, funky, offbeat, and catchy...just the way I like it :D
I've always really enjoyed his work, and am glad to see it played on RP. Although, I'm one of those strange people who think Din of Ecstacy, which a lot of people consider noise, to be his best.
(the cover of DoE was also done by trixie)

beautiful cover !!! I drew like this when I was 3... lol
but good sound...
What a great album cover. Haha.
Not crazy about this song, but I can listen to it.
I agree; it sounds like Collective Soul and Bruce Hornsby got together.
Backing vocals have a "Collective Soul" sound.
now this i like. very groovy. thanks!

Well...I hope we continue to hear his music. This number is really cool...

RIP. The irony is that he beat his addiction to heroin only to die from his addiction to tobacco. I wonder if there's a study out there that compares the deaths to each...

Check out Poison Girl - Wow. Saw him in Toronto in 1994(?) - an album launch party for LWTW put on by Columbia Music. Amazing.
Very !
Sort of a bluesy Beck going on. Me like.

Din if Ecstasy is a brilliant album and is indeed more 'hardcore' and real heavy on electric guitar.
Hate the expression, but Whitley constantly reinvents himslef and can not be easily classified.
Can not recommend strongly enough to get out and see this mastremind perform live!
I heard Widespread Panic, a little Beck....very nice song. My first exposure to Whitley.
Somebody upload more!!

This number is pure genius.
sounds like ben harper
This has groovy soul to make up for the 'faux soul' of the past number.
"Layers"? "Chunky"? How about a melody or some kind of pleasurable sound?
Interesting layers of sound. Must check him out some more.
What great and chunky sounds. At least Whitley is not afraid to experiment with sound and style.
Okey dokey - good to hear Mr. Whitley on RP. Nice cut... imho
Music to get caught up in. Hypnotizing (though maybe a bit too much, according to the previous comment).
Love this guy, but this is not his best. Try Dust Radio or Borderline. Please 8)
really interesting syncopation and a lithe, sexy gravelly voice ?
Yowzaaaa !!!!! Make my day, pretty please ?
Isn't there anything else we can hear from this guy?
I\'m not sure why this made my ears bleed but it hurts...the pain.
I really like Chris. Good to hear him on RP.
I was lucky enough to see Chris Whitley open for Tom Petty back in 1992, on Petty\'s Into The Great Wide Open Tour (a great show, as it was the last of the North American leg and went extra long). He had just put out his first album on Columbia. I unfortunately haven\'t heard anything off of his last couple of albums...
how do i make my favorite chris whitley tracks available for rp to play?
he has too many other tracks that need to be experienced/loved by the ever-appreciative music lovers here at rp.

saw him in may at joes pub in nyc-- just him and his dobro guitar. absolutely amazing. but apparently an off night for him (vocally livid with sound-board operator, constant complaining about record company over-booking his tour, non-stop mid-song tuning of guitar, etc...) however, it was nothing a 5 minute on-stage joint smoking break did not resolve
highlight was an amazing cover of blind faith "can't find my home" played with a rhythm guitarist and a saxophonist whitley used to play with in washington square park
i recommend buying his albums in order of release (take your time with each... it is possible to overdose on whitley, but that is not a bad thing.
it would be nice for rp to dive into his older work
I also agree with you. Nice post. Do not miss Whitley if he visits your town. Amazing artist.
This guy is so amazing. He has much better stuff than this song, but he is one of the most talented guitarists around. Cool.
(pimp)
OK, does the opening of this track remind anyone else of all of the music from Janah we\'ve been hearing on this station? It does me.
Oh, yeah ... that\'s a good thing.
This is absolutely exquisite! Very complex, unique- both in vocals and the way the music blends and clashes together. Amazing.
This is a really cool sounding track. Seems to mix hints of electronic music with twangy sounding guitar. Not disimilar to some of Chuck Prophet\'s \"No Other Love\" album. Or even Widespread\'s track 7 (Dyin Man) off \"Till the Medicine Takes\". Can\'t wait to hear the rest of this album.
