driving eighty in america's worst traffic with my knees isn't so bad with jams like these
I have never heard Incubus on RP before until today. If BillG only curated one of their songs this would probably be the best one.

This is one of my favorites of all time. It showed up on my computer after a Napster episode as an mp3 without any identifying information, and I fell in love with it. Took a couple of years before I discovered it was Incubus. Got a couple of Perry Farrell tunes the same mysterious way, and they rank way up there, too.
The frogs are terribly relaxing for me -- they're familiar, since I grew up in the middle of nowhere -- but Bill, there's a lot more frog croaking than you allow us to hear ...

These are some amazing sound waves; they tend to harmonize the dynamic body-environment system from which mind and life itself emerges. Incubus's work is uneven; this is the jewel in the lotus.
As much as I love the distinctive riff with whatever stringed instrument that is, I slowly begin to hate it toward the end.
"...'Aqueous Transmission' employs the use of Chinese instruments such as the pipa and is accompanied by a Japanese orchestra. The pipa used on the recording was given to Mike Einziger from Steve Vai, who also helped him develop the main riff to 'Echo.' 'Aqueous Transmission' is 7 minutes and 46 seconds long, with the last minute consisting of frogs croaking outside the studio in Malibu. Boyd jokingly said that the purpose of the song was to make 'the listener pee in his/her pants' from relaxation."

Not grabbing me, this one. Odd vocal affectations and repetitive stuff could annoy badly on further listening, too. Sorry. PSD for me.

Been listening to this for years but never rated it. For some reason it drove a spike into my skull today, but I always used to enjoy it okay. Would be a 7 but let's go with 6 because of the spike thing.
Someone complained a few songs about about the violins in a loop in a song from the Verve, I have exactly the same feeling now listening to those chinese cords. It's the only thing I can hear in that song, and it's never ending.... ANNOYING !
Ends with Bill and the Malibu Frogs. Charming!

after a series of weird songs, I am taking a rare RP break. I listen thru a Sonos system, and there is no way to PSD...which I would have spent the morning doing

This is pretentious and boring in my opinion. That 'aaaeaaa' thing he keeps doing is very irritating. He must have way too many indulgent people in his life to have ended up in a studio.
The "Vaguely Japanese" riff was OK fora while, but got waaaaaaaaay boring long before the cut was finished. Definitely marginal.

This song reminds me of descending through the clouds to Changsha airport. The country below was veiled in mist and clouds and quite mysterious looking. This song suits the feeling perfectly.

This song was always one of my favorites from this album. I found a lot of it to not hold up over the years, and it wasn't helped by incessant overplay by every local radio station I could get when this came out.
Plus, I had a crazy ex that was OBSESSED with some of the songs off this album but didn't really care that much for this one. It's unfortunate, but this is one of the few songs I can listen too from this album without having really bad flashbacks.
(She taught me to never date another Hispanic bi chick from the Bronx ever again. No offense to any Hispanic bi chicks who happen to be from the Bronx... but she ended up with some SERIOUS problems and tried to sabotage my relationship with my current wife before she was my wife.)

I liked this at first, but yer man's singing becomes increasingly, and presumably deliberately, out of tune as the song goes on and gets on my tits. This would be lovely without his discordant warbling, but with it a mute becomes inevitable.

"Morning View" and "Make Yourself" are a bit uneven, but worth the time. The rest...? Take 'em or leave 'em. "Crow Left of the Murder" is way too political (hey, I'm not a fan of el Presidente either, but I don't dedicate a CD of noise to suffer upon others)-- not to mention the music is crap! But this song? Damn it's 5:30 a.m. in Italy and to hear this song for the first time since I played it on a loop all night/morning with a woman who has since broken my heart... If memory serves me right, and sometimes it does, sometimes it skips out completely, this reminds me of Planet Caravan by Black Sabbath. a heavy band doing the dreamy, space thing. I just dont quite make it to that Zen state here. It a nice song, though.

Actually, change of heart. A late motif in my life is giving things more than one chance. I must say the subtle pluck of the guitar with the slow and melodic drum beat is really nice coupled with some beautiful lyrics.
