I never thought I'd meet a girl like you
Meet a girl like you
With auburn hair and tawny eyes
The kind of eyes that hypnotize me through
You hypnotize me through
And I ran, I ran so far away
I just ran, I ran all night and day
I couldn't get away
A cloud appears above your head
A beam of light comes shining down on you
Shining down on you
The cloud is moving nearer still
Aurora Borealis comes in view
Aurora comes in view
And I ran, I ran so far away
I just ran, I ran all night and day
I couldn't get away
Reached out a hand to touch your face
You're slowly disappearing from my view
'Appearing from my view
Reached out a hand to try again
I'm floating in a beam of light with you
A beam of light with you
And I ran, I ran so far away
I just ran, I ran all night and day
And I ran, I ran so far away
I just ran, I couldn't get away
Just to confirm that I'm not crazy, this song was originally released in 1982.
Yes, this song was released in 1982, but I can neither confirm nor deny your craziness.
MTV just celebrated their 40th year anniversary. Thank you MTV for 14 years of music!!!
MTV and CMT are now on the Internet Archive
The Singer's Hair now matches my own style (worn since my mid 30's)
Bald
Same here!
I used to call these guys "Flock of Beagles"
Ha, my brother called them Flock of Birdshit. Although we overlap (Violent Femmes!!!), our tastes were quite different.
Bald
"The Real World" was also likely one of the precursors to now what is known as "reality T.V.". I don't know about you but nothing on reality T.V. comes close to my reality. Thank goodness!
In the (paraphrased) words of Mike Rowe "If your 'Reality TV' show has a script, how real is it?"
The birth of the show "The Real World" was the start of the decline of music on MTV. Long live the Spacesuit man.

What hairstyle from the 80s is more *instantly* recognizable?
The OG Hairband!
One of the best songs and bands of the 80s
A flock of HairDressers
Tragically bald now. As am I. sigh
It's unfortunate that people crap on the music that came through MTV.
I couldn't stand this song back in the day but listening to it now, I can appreciate some real musical innovation and courage.
With all of it's cultural shortfalls, MTV provided a way for artists to express themselves in ways that had never been available or really seen before.
Cheers to RP for playing this old music despite what some grumpy old elitist might say. Fortunately there's a "next" button. MTV only had an "off" button.
I Agree! I hated it then, but l LIKE it now! I just turned 68. I guess I'm going senile! Thanx RP!

[snip, snip]
MTV is one of the worst things that ever happened to pop music, and pop culture in general. It branded and sold what little soul remained in music after the 70's. Yes, of course there are exceptions.
Have to agree. The enormous demand for content required the MTV music library to play in a turbocharged repeat cycle. And groups were no longer judged on musical talent, but on their attractive looks, stylish clothes, and ability to create a catchy video. Many good singer-songwriters and musical groups were cast aside because they wouldn't alter their vision to conform with the Warner/Paramount/Comcast vision.
In our constantly better-connected world, I see the same thing happening again: our minds' demand for sensory input leads to us to gobble up everything in front of us and desire even more. It causes us to consume both accurate information and outright lies. No surprise that humans and our societies are coming unglued.
Respectfully,
Grouchy Old Man
Thanks Professor
I'd rather hear more Go-Go's on here than FOS. This is typical of the very bad music of that time. Read through these comments... 95% "remember when" and "brings back memories". Rampant Inflation brings back memories too.

Don't bother me with the replies. Comments are pointless if it's all vapid cheerleading.

lol yes

Yep! too bad they got stupid in old age!! ....Guidos of the Jersey Shore & .........
Love the intro, great song and great to hear again. Remember driving in my BT van fixing phone lines in Pinner (Nw Greater London). But the into is soooo like Hawkwind…come on play Assault & Battery (original from Warrior on the Edge of Time)…bliss
Thanks for the smile - yes, they were one of those bands - I was driving around in a little Honda Van delivering dresses (frocks!) with this playing on a cassette - I'm not sure if CSN&Y would be happy sharing a cassette with AFOS!
I saw these guys as the opener for The Go-Go's at Morgantown, WV. I would go to almost every concert WVU managed to host while I was a student there. Although they were incredibly loud, they were very good.
Can't say the same for the Go-Go's, they lost the beat in the breakdown section of "We Got the Beat".
1982 was a fun year.

GTA looking sleeve there.
This song was on Vice City. Wave 103. Right after Blondie and before The Human League.

Well, at least the first 3 years.
I turned 17 in 1982 and didn't appreciate this song as much as I should have. I was too in to the Beatles and Hendrix.
I was just 12 then and I thought this song rocked. I was just 5 years younger than you and 60's music seemed ages ago as if from a distant land. 5 years doesn't seem very long now.
1- you've learned to laugh at yourself
2- you've dropped some of the pretense and are alright with allowing yourself to experience joy
AND ALSO ROCK BAND
THIS SONG SLAPS
I detested this song at the time as pop synth drivel. Now it makes me so happy--I could just pee my pants when it comes on in the supermarket. I have sunk so low...
You haven't sunk low at all. You have raised yourself up. Nice to have you here.
A flock of HairDressers
Not on purpose, but
some mornings I awake with that 80's hair style
Non-blond
My time has come. This is my song.

well, we lived in a paper bag in the middle of the road.
Hah! Luxury.
GTA looking sleeve there.
More like GTA was a FOS looking sleeve.
I have to stop working and stand up rocking hips, twsiting neck and and rising an arm. I'm 59
make you happy
move it pappy
What the flock
its all right
Okay, not Hawkwind, but this was produced by Gong bassist Mike Howlett. He actually won a Grammy for Flock of Seagulls production.
Glad you like them.
Ha, we used to call them Flock of Haircuts but your version is better.
LOL, living in SoCal at the time, a DJ on KROQ referred to them as "A Flock of Beagles." As someone else wrote, great driving tune!
Has it been 26 years since MTV ... became an inaccurate acronym?

Music IS the time machine

Yeah I dunno, cars were rubbish, no internet, you can have it!
Especially now, 2020 is for the Birds, I like Seagulls better!!
MTV a long time ago huh ? How about when color TV was new ?
Kidz ....
Oh yeah? ...how about when black and white tv was new? I remember THAT.

No, that's just some very 1980's looking cover art.

Forty years does a fair bit of damage, friend...
while I never looked like the Before picture, I have a resemblence to the After, though I am only 54ish
Forty years does a fair bit of damage, friend...
Or perhaps repair, depending on how you see the early version.
My mullat is gone now as well.
Big hair was in vogue in the eighties fer sure .
