She turned away
What was she looking at?
She was a sour girl
The day that she met me
Hey! What are you looking at?
She was a happy girl
The day that she left me
She turned away
What was she looking at?
She was a sour girl
The day that she met me
Hey! What are you looking at?
She was a happy girl
When she left me

What would you do?
What would you do
If I followed you?
What would you do
If I follow?

Don't turn away
What are you looking at?
He was so happy on
The day that he met her
Say, what are you looking at?
I was a superman
But looks are deceiving

The rollercoaster
Rides a lonely one
I paid a ransom note
To stop it from steaming
Hey! What are you looking at?
She was a teenage
Girl when she met me

What would you do?
What would you do
If I followed you?
What would you do
If I follow?

What would you do?
(What would you do?)
What would you do
If I followed you?
What would you do
If I follow?

The girl got reasons
They all got reasons

What would you do?
(What would you do?)
What would you do
If I followed you?
What would you do
If I follow?

What would you do?
(What would you do?)
What would you do
If I followed you?
What would you do
If I follow?

Hey! What are you looking at?
She was a happy girl
The day that she left me
The day that she left me
The day that she left me
She was a happy girl
The day that she left me
She was a sour girl
The day that she met
The day that she left me

I heard this a few times on the radio and it's been floating around in my head for years - I had NO idea it was Stone Temple Pilots. Thought it was just a random pop song.

I really like it.

in the top 4 for me. chris, layne, mark lanegan and scott. i'd throw in shawn smith (from brad, twilight singers, etc.) for fun, too. all have very distinctive vocals.

Better than Kurt, Chris, Eddie, or Layne? How exactly are you defining "greatest"?
(Not trying to criticize him, but he's got some stiff competition. Crazy that only one of those four is still alive though.)
Scott Weiland was the greatest frontman of that Grunge years...

Yes it does. At least the singer's voice does.
Never gets old.
Really like this one. So much better than most of the crap in the STP catalogue
Scott Weiland had a way with a song.

Very interesting, especially given that I'm a *huge* JJ fan, and this is among my favorite STP songs. Hmmm...

I'm a sucker for the back end of each chorus when the lead guitar plays the open string melody. Like a shot of sweet sweet sugar to the brain.

Some agree but I just can't hear Jackson. Nope...but that is the beauty of music, different things for different folks.

so good!
Yes, a great song.
...they all got reasons...

Great song.  Sweet chord progression by Dean DeLeo too.
{#Hearteyes}
Another first for me here on RP.

And if I had to guess the authors of this tune, no way I'd tag Stone Temple Pilots as the band. This is WAY more pop-y than Vasoline or Creep. THIS is the band in the same genre as Soundgarden and Candlebox?

I hear it, too. I know there's at least one song (Days Of The Week) where Weiland cited Jackson as an influence.
Such a creative, unconventional song that still manages to set serious ear worms...

Love it!
RIP Scott

woo hoo{#Music}
My favorite STP song.
oh I like this one a real lot, quite cool time trip inducing, back when things were more refined and serious and you could actually have real conversations with a stunning young thing at the bar

Eh...on the lyrics (4)...great jamming on the band (9)...but still an 8
For the longest time I thought this was a Smithereens song. Just has their melody and guitar riffs. One of the best STP songs for sure.

Everybody in my church loves this cool song...

Yes, exactly. STP...XTC. I thought it was Andy Partridge singing the first time I spun this one. Much more Beatles-esque than most STP.

It was pretty mandatory for grunge groups in the early 1990's to "sound like a 'bunch of stoners'".  It's not as if that element has ever been absent from rock music at any time - or even jazz for that matter.  Anyhow, I think this is one of their best tunes - great chord progression, nice melody.

There's an atmosphere to this track that I really like. I believe it's the prodding and consistent melodic bassline...that plays with the melody and harmony of the vocals. I didn't realize that this was Stone Temple Pilots. Doesn't really sound a lot like them...but versatility isn't a bad thing. Haven't heard this tune much which always fares well with me. :)

Y'know, Stingray - I've given up trying to figure you out. I thought you were a troll, but they usually post and run. Then, I thought you were just one of those people who loves to stir up trouble and stick around to keep things festering.

Now, though, I must just be really tired. Every once in awhile, we agree on music, but apart from that, you're an enigma. Not that that's a BAD thing.

Like now.  I agree - this is NOT STP's best work. As for how much "good" work they've produced, I'm not objective at all, having only heard a few of their songs. And I totally disagree about the boygroup from Florida comment!  I've never heard a boygroup from Florida that actually had a guitarist who could do a solo, although I do know a guy from Florida who can play a wicked guitar, sing, and write his own songs.)

Challenge:  List those 1001 better songs - or, for the sake of space, send me a PM with those 1001 songs. I reserve the right to post any or all of your choices, with possible critiques. And, being a woman, I can tell you which songs would work and which wouldn't.

*tock*  Ball's in your court now, buddy. I shall expect a PM from you in the next two weeks. If I don't receive your list of songs, or a valid reason why you can't justify your comments, be prepared to retract your "1001 songs" statement publicly.  And to sweeten the deal, if you renig, you'll owe me ten bucks.  (WAIT! you yell - what's in it for ME?  Well, the fact that I'm willing to make this fun instead of just calling you a troll and ignoring your comments is one benefit.  Another is that how you handle this challenge will determine/change how some folks here in RP-land view you. And, If I happen to get that 1001 song list from you, regardless of whether they're valid songs or not, I'll come back here and vindicate you.)  Have fun! {#Mrgreen}

Plzzzzzzz,,, play more STP
Haven't heard this one in awhile, yea luv me some STP!{#Cowboy}
I love the STP. This song is great, and their "Purple" album is a classic, in my opinion. Great 90s pop. {#Clap}
Excellent tune.
When these guys first came out, they got zero respect from me or the folks I hung out with at the time (referred to as the Stone Pimple Toilets... we were sooo mature weren't we?).  But... this song completely changed my attitude about STP.  Very innovative song structure and an engaging melody.  I remember it was on "heavy rotation" in my head for several months.
This is a good one. {#Nyah}
I love this song

Couldn't agree more! STP were a creative bunch.  I thought Velvet Revolver was too.  Each a distinct and legimate rock band, each with their own sound.

Glad that Velvet Revolver didn't rest on the laurels of their previous lives...very refreshing.

STP had good mojo - I hope for more.

Excellent spot on comment — Scott and Co are very versatile

Saw them last Wednesday! Scott's still got it. He was running all over the place with his megaphone in hand.

Woo! Touring this summer! VERY excited. These guys are my favorite 90's band.

I agree with R Biter...this is SO not STP, but a great tune... I love being surprised
"What would you do if I followed you?" - report you to the cops as a stalker, you creep!
love this song!
I saw a rerun of an old SNL not long ago...STP did \"Naked Sunday\". Say what you will about Scott Weiland and the band, but it was a most impressive performance.
My favorite STP song everrrrr! *bobs head in time*

I totally dig this song. If these guys were less screamy on more of their stuff I'd be happy. But they have enough non-screamy to keep me coming back.
TOO LONG
I love the song, but what the hell are they talking about?
People never realize that the Teletubbies seen in the video are actually Weiland's smack buddies! In all seriousness though, it's a real fine song. It sounds quite druggy, however. It's probably the druggiest sounding record since the Black Crowes "Amorica."
Would someone be so kind to pleeeeeease upload song from the album CORE!!!
Yes, my best taste and pleasure memories are definitely that insatiable sour girl with the great personality.
Oh....Oh...there singing my song!
he has a great voice!
I've a little thing for this song... caught my ear some time ago... ...
Love those lyrics... I'm a sour boy

This song is about one of the band's girlfriend=turned-wife. She left him, as you can probably tell. He was happy, needless to say, when she left. So was she. I've read that sour girl is also to be taken literally. (Edited later) "sour" refers to both taste and temperment, so there's both a sexual and a psychological component to what he's saying.
