I'm always amazed by the number of people who hate/berate the music that is played here.
I think there is a pretty high standard for the music selections on RP.
I used to hate the Cowboy Junkies, Chris Isaak, ELO, Janis Joplin and countless other bands. After continuing to listen to RP, I have come to like all the groups I have mentioned above.
There are obviously a lot of people here that like the music you hate or it would not be being played. And first impressions of music and musicians can change over time.
If that doesn't work, just use PSD button.
It seems that some just love to hate. It is odd.
There's only one place left to go
Graduate of The Mark Knopfler School of Rock.
Dire Rea?
Botanically, eggplant is a fruit, not a vegetable. There are varieties which are white and smaller in size than the purple ones (which are most widely farmed in recent times), and can resemble chickens' eggs. It's odd that the British would prefer to use a French-descended term.
Look up 1066 England. Half our words come from French and they certainly predate the colonisation of North America.
On another note I dig Chris Rea
Eggplant
Almost an Eggplant - a whole one would be Aubergine
Eggplant
I don't remember this song having such an extended instrumental intro. Is this a remix version oder...?
I thought he was saying "fromage".
Maybe you need a refresher course in French?
I am not sure what that has to do with (an) auberge?
Sometimes want a separate rating system for the album cover art - this one's a 9. Lotus Super 7 in full unwind. Yes please.
Chris Drove a Race . On Facebook you can see he is buying a Lotus.
I was responding to a tangential post about an "aubergine".

You only like music for rich people?

Gotta agree with that on this song. Well said. This is the tune that turned me on to his music.

That's all i wanted to say.

It has (had?) an Auberge sign on it and did excellent nosh.
Thanks. Your post had me hunting for the meaning of this song, and I came across this interview with Chris Rea in which he said:
"Well, you don't have to be French to say the title, because the title is an Englishism, anyway. 'Auberge' literally now in France means a motel, it's pretty down-mark, not particularly up-mark, in France it's not particularly romantic. For French people an 'Auberge' is somewhere where they had to stop off because they didn't make it home in time, so they don't particularly feel great about 'Auberges'. But for the English this is romanticism attracted with the word, and the translation of it meaning temporary resting place, and that's exactly what this album was for me after 'The road to hell'"

Chris Rea is a talented, prolific songwriter/vocalist/guitar player.
I bought his debut album in 1978 (Whatever Happened To Benny Santini) and almost every one since.
Love it, thanks Bill.
Ever heard of PSD??

Wow, love the Hunters & Collectors reference (even from back in 2007), one of my favorite 80's Aussie bands. Another group RP could mine for new material.
Absolutely, anytime! Way better then this Chris Rea..
An Excellent Album

Seen him many times always a treat.
Listen to the last track, on Road to Hell, Tell me There's a Heaven and not cry . An encapsulation of why music can be so emotional , and a prime need to us.
You got that right!
I love this song so much - only other of his songs I like better is "Texas."
Except at Easter.

Sounds like the road to hell ..

Aubergine = vegetable that Americans refer to as an "eggplant" even though eggs are almost never purple.
"Eggie" looking aubergines.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Three_Types_of_Eggplant.jpg
The name eggplant developed in the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada because the fruits of some 18th century European cultivars were yellow or green and resembled chicken or hen's eggs.

Schreckliche Musik. Dire Rea.
