She made a call to a sympathetic friend and made arrangements
The door was closed, there was a note
I couldn't be bothered, maybe I'll choke, no more engagements
With where-have-you-beens and far away frowns
Trying to be good by not being 'round
And here in the bar, the piano man's found
Another nail for my heart
And here in the bar, the piano man's found
Another nail for my heart
That stupid old bug that kills only love
I want to be good, is that not enough
So play me the song that makes it so tough
Another nail for my heart
Then play me the song that makes it so tough
Another nail for my heart
I had excuses, those little boy lies
That she computed by watching my eyes and told me firmly
She couldn't stand it, I'm bad on her heart
She dropped her make-up and I found the bar, now it concerns me
I've had a bad time, now love is resigned
I've been such a fool, I've loved and goodbyed
So here in the bar, the piano man's found
Another nail for my heart
And here in the bar, the piano man's found
Another nail for my heart
And here in the bar, the piano man's found
Another nail for my heart
And here in the bar, the piano man's found
Another nail for my heart
And here in the bar, the piano man's found

My first major concert was Oingo Boingo opening for Squeeze in the early 80's. My friend picked me up and I was passed over the heads of the crowd and dropped on the stage. I had to do a stage-dive before the bouncer got me.
0k not everyone has an experience like that at a concert. You been doing any stage dives lately?
Difford and Tilbrook are a pair of fine songwriters and no mistake.
I was lucky enough to see Squeeze with Jools Holland tickling the ivories.
i love this band.
can't count how many times i've seen them live.
These Fuckers are like fine wine
Better with age
true that. saw them last summer and they were great,.. they took me back to high school. they have a ton of great songs.
That album cover reminds me to slow down on the Negronis, on Saturday afternoons.
That always stuck with me because I had no clue who Squeeze was.
I'm usually annoyed by the pinched voice...
Maybe listen and/or read the lyrics! No?
Nope, you’re wrong. It’s “for”. Always has been. That’s what he sings.
The title of the song is, 'Another nail IN my heart', not 'for'.
RP listeners may not realize that this song was played to death in the UK at the time on mainstream radio stations. Back then it was just a 'pop' song but from the most recent comments here, it would appear that some are trying to elevate this song and the band into Godlike status. I cannot listen to it without cringing at the pretentious lyrics and repetitive melody. This is no doubt a superior Pop song, but it not an Art form or Poetry.
You do realize that Bach, Beethoven, Mozart and the rest of the gang were "pop" music at the time?
Shite band
Better with age
Agreed. A true work of art.
Yes, I truly believe they are that good.
And Partridge/Moulding from XTC will also be there.
They weren't referring to the band; it was simply a suggestion.

Where is the +10 rating ...
AMG has it listed that way, but I just checked my physical CD (which I've had for a dog's age) and it shows the title as "Another Nail For My Heart", which matches the lyrics. Not sure why it would have changed.
YAH- I was there too. One of my top shows of that timeframe. Orpheum Theater in Boston. Everyone was up and jammed into the aisles. Als- times have changed and they don't allow folks to have fun anymore.
RP rocks!
They are touring, and they are worth the greenbacks.
Oh...the audacity!

Oh...the audacity!
As long as you didn't piss in the beer, all's forgiven...
For a while Squeeze was truly brilliant.
I just saw them last year and they still put on a great show. Tight musicianship, wonderful harmonies, Glenn's guitar playing is still fantastic. Very nice folks also for the after show meet and greet, well Chris looked like he would have rather been sitting in the dentist chair, but other than that....
Oh...the audacity!
Wicked!! thank you treatment_bound, is a cool tune
Yeah—and I got to witness it all over again 32 years later in Milwaukee at Summerfest. They basically play a greatest hits show these days, but they've got some "great hits" to trot out, so it's all good.
Here's how it went down on 7/8/12:

Yeah, ain't it great! I saw this played live the year it came out from about 5 feet away (Duffy's in Mpls.—-about 50 people there). It'll never get better than that for a live music experience.
I also used to have this on a 45 rpm vinyl record (which of course we just used to call a 45 before they became extinct in the 1980's). Wish I still had it.

Nope. This song was originally on "Argybargy", which I bought when it came out in early 1980.
I saw Squeeze that summer at Duffy's, a bar in SE Mpls. We stood (and occasionally danced) about 5 feet from Jools Holland (who soon after left the band). He was kind of a "carnival barking emcee' for Squeeze back at the beginning. THAT WAS FUN!
Good year. It's the year that I was made.
Indeed. Tasty guitar solo too.
Best single EVER without a chorus! Heard it again this morning on the way in on the Sirius XM 1st wave channel.
Can we get this one added here to the Radio Paradise playlist?
Yep, great album.
............. sure is
Same here.
Yep, great album.
Agree! I think they were capable of better but were busy trying to score a top 40 hit. A shame to sellout for so little.
Same here.
Thanks, that is the singularly appropriate description.
Oh look he knows one interesting word. I bet people love you going around sounding like a goat all day long
Back in the '80s, I found a lot of the music to be bloodless and cold (which was in style I guess).
Bands like Squeeze and XTC were more to my liking.

I call those "button songs" as they had me reaching for the "off button" on my car radio back in the day. Would rather ride in silence for a few minutes.
As for Squeeze, I wasn't much of a fan until I saw them open for Elvis Costello on his first US tour. They were a tight, workman-like band who made the most of their 45 minutes, so I have at least respected them for their professionalism.

Not at all fred, if you don't like them then not listening to them is good for you. Music is totally and completely subjective, who is to say what is "good" or not? What is good is whatever you like and what is bad is whatever you don't like, same goes for all of us. How is that for a definition? BTW, I happen to really like this song and Squeeze in general, but to each his own!
There ain't no Rockpile songs in RP's library...DADGUMMIT! (pardon my Ken "The Harrelson" Hawk)
An unusual blind spot, er oversight, for Bill. I second the request.

How many other songs make me perk up, happy, and somewhat optimistic? How many other songs have such a great melody, harmony, and joy?
Totally agree! This song was originally on the terrific Argybargy album.
I expected a lot more content than this from you. Please try again.
