You must leave now
Take what you need;
You think will last
But whatever you wish to keep,
You better grab it fast

Yonder stands you're orphan
With his gun
Crying like a fire
In the sun

Look out baby
The same song comin' through
And it's all over now,
Baby blue

The highway is for gamblers;
Better use your sense
Take what you have gathered
From coincidence

The empty-handed painter
From your street
Is drawing crazy patterns
On your sheets

The sky, too, is fallin'
Over you
And it's all over now,
Baby blue

Leave your stepping stones behind
There's somethin' that calls for you
Forget the debt you've left -
That will not follow you

Your lover who has just walked
Through the door
Has taken all his blankets
From the floor

The carpet, too,
Is foldin' over you
And it's all over now,
Baby blue

It's all over now, baby blue
Yeah yeah
It's all over, it's all over now, baby blue
It's allllll
It's all over now
It's all over now, over now, baby blue...

Yeah, I think Van got restless not performing in 2020 and acted out. Don't know what Eric's deal about covid was.

It's Van's cover of a Dylan song (originally on Dylan's 1965 album Bringing It All Back Home).
The Man. Even his Dylan covers are home runs.
At the same time this was rocking the szene, the movie "Rocker" could be watched in german cinemas. Black & white, the biggest machines were BMW R 75, and we were fascinated. So the rocking time at the "Meeting of the elephants" started, always in February, with minus 15 in tents, at Nürburgring. Brrr, but great!
Makes me think of Dead shows hearing this, they played a killer version as well!

He was playing & touring professionally, long before Mick & the Stones. Maybe Mick learned from him.
His voice is quite "Jaggerish" here (I don't mean he's imitating him, I'm simply noting the resemblance).
He cut a verse ("All your seasick sailors..."). Wise decision, it's performed slower and could become lengthy

Ups....me to....maybe a little less years but still.

Ummm, Revolver came out in 1966. Hardly bubble gum. Elanor Rigby, Tomorrow Never Knows, Here There and Everywhere, Taxman, etc.....

I still love his old music like this.  "Astral Weeks" will always be extraordinary.  Van Morrison was a great musician.  It seems like he never was a good person and now he's even worse.   Egotistical, selfish, self-centered and short-sighted.

All those characterizations likely have some basis in reality. All it really demonstrates is Van the Man is too broke to hire a publicist. I probably will always love "Into the Mystic."

Sorry but  always thought it was Dylan's Blonde who wrote this ??

He and his ilk are dangerous nutjobs.

Shiver me timber!  Revolver album and bubble gum do not rhyme at all to me.
Thought it was going to be the Beck sample - happily surprised. :)

Any version is rarely better than the one sung by the writer.
Not a big fan of Van Morrison though Bill sure is. Usually hit PSD but this song is an exception to the rule. Beautiful
 obankenobi wrote:

Me too, at least for a while long ago - but as somebody quite familiar with the Stones' and also Jager's solo oeuvre, I soon realized: impossible; it can't be Jagger. But still I remember that; everytime I hear this song. And doesn't Morrison sound incredibly like Jagger here?
Egads...

It's Them

Always loved Van Morrison.  This is a great version of the tune.  Was very disappointed to learn he is a nut job, COVID denier.
 obankenobi wrote:

Well, you were wrong by two factors. One, Mick Jagger can't sing. Two, the Rolling Stones wrote one hit (Angie), and that's it
 dublanica wrote:

Pre-'66 Beatle bubble gum tunes were on the radio big time.  But '65 and '66 were their transition years of Rubber Soul and Revolver, and with them the Beatles were bidding bye bye to bubble gum.

This was on the 'Them Again" album, released April, 1966 (4 years before Beck was born).
A masterpiece by a master.

Beck has a song called Jackass. He samples this song.

This is the sort of comment that I would expect from idiot_wind.  It would be classic for them.

This song gets extra high marks from me because it sounds like the Stones, Not Van.

I didn't realize the Beck song had a Van Morrison sample in it.
Great Dylan cover, and I love that etherial backing music that I think I first heard in the Trainspotting soundtrack. Van Morrison is such a soulful singer.
I like this better than Dylan's version.
I was just going to write how amazing for someone to mix this song with Beck's but now I see it's all Van. Wow.
I always get excited thinking this is Beck, then my heart sinks.  Thank you for the PSD button.  Not all songs are for everyone on RP, and that's ok, but there is something for everybody.

This is so nice Love it

So this is Mick Jagger singing along with the keyboard player from the Stranglers and Echo and the Bunnymen? Is that right? It's them?

Hah, funny (hee hee. Not them, Them). I was listening while working and thought "Is this an early Stones song?" Nope.
Van Morrison active since 1958.
Mick Jagger active since 1960.
Bob Dylan active since 1962.
To be clear, I'm not accusing anyone of anything. Artists do influence each other and I don't know who's influencing who here. Van and Mick both took their turns trying on some Dylan-esque vocal stylings for example (I mean, to the extent they were able to imitate anyone).  This being a Dylan song it's not a stretch to think Van's trying to channel Bob a bit vocally too.
All due respect, but this is the definitive version. Which is so flattering to Dylan.
OMG YES SO MUCH YES
one of my fave dylan covers ever
This should make the non-believers see why Dylan's voice is the right one for his music.
I really like the voice of Van Morrison. Special in his first years and during his period in Them. Thnx!!

Shame to murder a good song. Just doesn’t do it for me

Does the pre-vocal opening of this track constitute sampling?
Blueprint for 'Stand by be' or vice versa

That's silly—they've sung together many times.
Had not heard this before you started putting it in the rotation.  Thanks.

Great cover.
Have to confess a soft spot for Garcia and the Dead covering this one.
i like it

Who else caught that the guitar intro echoes The Drifters' On the Boardwalk?
Name that tune, fellas.
The Drifters to Bob Dylan to Van Morrison.
Makes sense to me.
Of course, now that Dylan is an entirely incongruous Superbowl commercial star, it oughta be more like It's All Over Now My Baby Blue Jeep interior.
This be trippy. I like it!

I used to live in a place, where we had a small living room only for listening to old records, and that's where I heard that song for the first time. I thought it is one of the most soulfull covers ever made! Still love the song

I'm disapointed it's not Beck. About the only thing I would not rather hear than Van Morrison is Joni Mitchell...
