It's a new sun
Summer's begun
And shifted a weight off your mind
Slow down
Turn back around
Everyone's waiting behind
Cool eyes that watch you from miles away
Wait for a time when you learn to stay

And everyone knows i'll be here
On the best day of the year
When everything's perfectly clear

Step back
You're under attack
The rain's coming in through the roof
Choosing sides
The whole thing collides
And someone's left looking for proof

And everyone knows i'll be here
On the best day of the year
When everything's perfectly clear

Cool eyes that watch you from miles away
Wait for a time when you learn to stay

And everyone knows i'll be here
On the best day of the year
When everything's perfectly clear

He had put on a little weight at that time!
payola must be alive and well

Don't know who you are, Proclivities, but you don't miss a beat, do you? Thanks for another grin....

What an unnecessary thing to say.  While I agree Finn isn't in the same bracket as Lennon, I'm a fan of both. "Mud"? What a douche.  ercasul wrote:

I am constantly amazed how Neil Finn has conned so many people for so long.

Neil Finn is not in the same bracket as Lennon when it comes to fame.  His songwriting, however, I would argue certainly  is.

So excellent; reminds me of shades of RubyHorse, Thirteen Senses, and of course, Neil Finn, but yet unique and distinguished. Bravo!
Yup, totally thought it was Crowded House. Btw, their last album from 2010, 'Intriguer', is super good. https://www.allmusic.com/album/intriguer-mw0001995978
I'm with the rest of you ..... hearing echoes of Neil Finn magic
Was certain this was crowded house. Wow.
Could be Neil Finn's brother singing.
...
Oh, wait. That position's already taken.
...
Could be Neil Finn's other brother.
Hmmm..stranger than fiction....

Holy moly -- how was this not the Finns or Crowded House?  Very nice...
I bought the album based on one listen to this song. Very glad I did.
CROWDED HOUSE - CLEARLY
First listen for me, too.  (Cynaera — a few posts below.)  Yep, that's a familiar voice and the song has easy, calm, and clear, vibrations.  Seven, you say?  Yeah, sure, I can agree with that.  Wonder if that's how your greenhouse felt ...
First listen as well.. I like this one.
blandly pretty.

isn't it possible that he's not 'conned so many people for so long', but that many people find something of value in his music?
I like this song, on first listen.  Thought it was Del Amitri at first, but Nicholson's vocals are more refined.  7 for starters, with potential...
first listen - very nice!

Yeah, I was wondering which Finn brother this was too. It's not just the voice, the lyrics and melody sound the same.

Wow. Without even hesitating, I saw my comment and said, "gee, Dad was still alive then".  Funny how life has its milestones.

A pleasant tune with traits reminiscent of Neil Finn, Snow Patrol, and Toad? Definitely! Such a perfect compliment. {#Sunny}
I also particularly like his song "Nice to Be Here" off the same album. Hey RP, it's very nice to be here today!

I purchased this album a few years ago.  Nice to here Shane on RP.

Neil Finn is a great singer songwriter. Used to be with Crowded House in the 80s or early 90s, and I think Split Endz at one point.

Actually, Neil and brother Tim founded Split Enz in the late '70s/early '80s. Tim left the band, and Neil formed Crowded House. Tim joined them for one album, Woodface. Neil and Tim have done a number of albums together. Neil gets all the props for his songwriting, and well he should. But you should check out Tim's solo stuff. Pretty good.

Hey! Isn't this page about Shane Nicholson? {#Wink}

God I love this song. Goosebumps. Been listening to it for four years - since I first heard it here!
The best day of the year? That would probably be Christmas.
That was nice
Whoa, thought I listening to Finn. Not that that's a bad thing. Pretty good song.
um, I came here to say that this guy sounds like...guess who? I guess my thought was not so original. I've never heard another singer who even comes close, until this guy. sounding even a little like Neil Finn is a good thing!
OK, enough about Mr. Finn. How's the rest of this album?
boring .... 3/10

Now THAT is an understatement. Not many better... Funny, I actually came here to ask if Neil Finn changed is name and why. Reading a few posts, I realized it wouldn't have been that clever as that's the only thing anybody is talking about on this thread. Man... this REALLY sounds like the Finn Neil.

Hmm. He's called Shane, he sounds like the reformed Kiwi N.Finn and is that a mullet he's sporting on the cover of his album? Must be Antipodean. (Mullet = short hair at sides, long at back - with geographic variances.)
That doesn't look like a mullet to me.
The worst thing I can say about this song is it ends too soon.
Article I found about Shane Nicholson on the web ""I can remember that day so clearly," Nicholson said. "I was 15 and it was my first real solo gig. I played ‘To Her Door' and Crowded House's ‘Better Be Home Soon,' but I had to use two bits of fishing line because I only had two guitar strings and you had to have four. Of course, I couldn't tune it, but I still pulled it off. It's funny, though. I didn't even know you had to plug the chord into an amp." " spacer "In fact, in the last year, he met and played with Neil Finn, an artist who Nicholson has often been compared to. "Meeting him was amazing," Nicholson said. "He's one of those artists — like John Lennon or Elton John — who wrote songs that had real meaning behind them. I don't like to classify myself as anything really, but to be compared to Neil Finn is a greater compliment than an insult." "
I'll bet ol' Shane here grew up in a crowded house...

who Is Neil Finn?
Neil Finn is a great singer songwriter. Used to be with Crowded House in the 80s or early 90s, and I think Split Endz at one point. I think Neil Finn is one of the most poignant and melodic songwriters around. If you want a great album, buy "Try Whistling This" It is a masterpiece. He was touring this past year with his brother Tim, as "The Finn Brothers" They have a recent album out that is fantastic--if you like Neil Finn.
good stuff. cool voice. excellent follow-up to Joseph Arthur too. how 'bout some Stochansky next?
Middling.

Reminds me more of the Doves... "Break me gently" anyone?
It's almost a shame the guy sounds that much like NF, all 3 album reviews said the same thing. Hope it is a boost and not an anchor... a 6.
Even when I know it's Shane Nicholson, it still sounds like..... that other guy ---- the guitar, the voice, the melody. Maybe that's what makes it a good song.
dude sounds like a lady.
Hey! He sounds like . . . . oh, never mind.

Guess who this reminded me of? It must be him!
Anyone hear Neil Finn/Crowded House here?
Can't believe that I'm going to engage in "sounds like" but is anyone familiar with the Travis CD The Man Who? There must be a big well somewhere that gushes this (admitably attractive) stuff, and bands walk by with their bucket...
I bet he gets sick of hearing that....even all the reviews on Amazon mention Neil.
Actually, I would think he would be quite flattered to even be mentioned in the same breath as Neil Finn. This is good stuff......
Uh, well...looks like it's unanimous about the Neil Finn voice thing. But I'm wondering who he is--I've never heard of him, and would like to know (hear) more!
melancholy, melodic, moonshine

Reminds me of Neil Finn. Particularly "How Will You Go" by the Finn Brothers.
