Lyrics:

The glove compartment is inaccurately named
And everybody knows it
So I'm proposing a swift orderly change

'Cause behind its door, there's nothing to keep my fingers warm
And all I find are souvenirs from better times
Before the gleam of your taillights fading east
To find yourself a better life

I was searching for some legal document
As the rain beat down on the hood
When I stumbled upon pictures I tried to forget
And that's how this idea was drilled into my head
'Cause it's too important to stay the way it's been

But there's no blame for how our love did slowly fade
And now that it's gone, it's like it wasn't there at all
And here I rest where disappointment and regret collide
Lying awake at night

And there's no blame for how our love did slowly fade
And now that it's gone, it's like it wasn't there at all
And here I rest where disappointment and regret collide
Lying awake at night, up all night
When I'm lying awake at night

I think it's a great track. Try looking a little deeper at the lyrics, guys.
the lyrics may be profound but I can't get past the singer's whiny voice and the annoying electronic quality of the music to even listen to them
BillG hates me, doesn't he.....

I see some folks I respect (see last six or seven posts) saying they hate this song. Just goes to show, although sometimes there's a clear right and wrong, there do occur those songs that divide listeners of good tastes. Of course, this is not one of those songs. I love it, and you are all very wrong. However, before sending you to music hell, I'd book you a few centuries in music purgatory to revise your statements. Man, am I magnanimous or what?
I choose Music Hell...at least the bands rock. This tune is barely a 3 for me.
same here, except Im tuning into wunc.

I'll give it a 10 then. Phew, am I glad I'm on the right side of THIS deal, or what?! :)

I haven't heard this song - and I will be picking up this album. Love it.

Love Death Cab, but this is just lame (sorry Caitlin)

What he said. Awful in oh so many ways.

Kind of a snooze. I'm so tired of self-consciously artsy bands. I must be getting old, but based on this song, I'd have to call the band "Death Cab for Cutesy." :-( :-( :-(
Definately not their best. Inane and yawn provoking.
Great song. Great album.

Anyone know how they got their name?
"took their name from a Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band song" (click here) The Bonzo Dog Band 'performed the song "Death Cab for Cutie" in The Beatles film Magical Mystery Tour.' (click here) Neil Innes may be a familiar name to many RP listeners. hcaudill wrote:
I'll tell you as soon as you tell us how you got your name.
Wasn't Porcupine Meat a song in some Elvis movie?

Mindless drivel. Hate the vocals. Stupid midi music. Other than that I really don't like it.
Seems like I'm the only one from Mountain Home with a good taste in music...I think my dad likes this song though.

Mindless, hate, stupid, don't. Kinda negative.

Okay, I've only heard the first half or so, but these are some incredibly stupid lyrics.
I've got to side with rgj on this one - nice try on the lyrics, but they don't quite pull it off.
My favorite song off of a fantastic album.

You might not have listened long enough... I find this song really sad. Just in case I can change your mind, here are the lyrics: The glove compartment is inaccurately named and everybody knows it so I'm proposing a swift, orderly change 'cause behind its door there's nothing to keep my fingers warm and all I find are souvenirs from better times before the gleam of your tail lights fading east to find yourself a better life I was searching for some legal document as the rain beat down on the hood when I stumbled upon pictures I tried to forget and that's how this idea was drilled into my head 'cause it's too important to stay the way it's been but there's no blame for how our love did slowly fade and now that it's gone, it's like it wasn't there at all and here I rest where disappointment and regret collide lying awake at night but there's no blame for how our love did slowly fade and now that it's gone just like it wasn't there at all and here I rest: where disappointment and regret collide lying awake at night; all night, when I'm lying awake at night
Anyone know how they got their name?
