I hear you're driving
someone else's car now...
She said you came and
took your stuff away -
All the poetry, and the trunk
you kept your life in -
I knew that it would
come to that someday...
Like a sad hallucination,
when I opened up my eyes,
the train had passed the station,
and you were trapped inside...
Yet I never wonder where you went,
I only wonder why,
I wonder why...

Oh Caroline
Oh, whoa-oh Caroline
oh, oh Caroline
whoa whoa whoa, Caroline

Well I hear you're using someone else's number;
She said she saw you in the store today.
It doesn't matter whose address
you're listed under,
I only know they'll never make you stay.
Like a memory in motion,
you were only passing through...
that is all you've ever known of life,
that's all you'll ever do.
There's a dream I have where I sail away;
looking back I wave at you,
and I wave goodbye...

Oh Caroline
Oh, oh whoa oh, Caroline
Oh, oh Caroline
Oh

In another life I see you
as an angel flying high,
and the hands of time will free you -
you will cast your chains aside -
and the dawn will come and kiss away
every tear that's ever fallen
from your eyes...
behind those eyes,
I wonder

Oh, Caroline... oh, oh, oh...
Oh, oh... Caroline...
Sometimes I wonder...
Oh... Caroline
Sometimes I,
Sometimes I wonder...

This is Heart's best song. What's that you say, this isn't Heart? Oh, I must be thinking of "Joey."

I've always thought that Rachael Yamagata sounded quite like Johnette - but the gals from Heart? Don't know about that.

Last comment 2009?  Wow... was this the last time this song was played here?

The song is pretty decent.. sounds like very much like 1983 American/Canadian new wave, in a good way, even though the song is neither.  It's weird that it brings back memories of that year even though it didn't exist at the time.

Krispian responded:

What an incredibly astute observation: all female-fronted bands sound exactly the same! thx for pointing that out.

I was just about to write "hear, hear," in response to the above comment when I realised it was my wife who posted it. Surprise, surprise.

Caroline Kennedy is gunning to take over Hillary Clinton's senate seat.
Love her voice....
Jim Mankey's reverb is 50% of this song.  Normally I don't condone reverb abuse, but it works really well here.

And that's the other 75% :)  Johnette has one of the top voices for rock & roll... definitely in the top 5 imho.

gorgeous, really.... .... 10 + ....complete sound

What a fantastic album this was - reminds me of Dingle, County Kerry back in 1993.

2! I find the metronomic drums to be unacceptable.

Another song requiring that dang 11 rating!!
How weird, I was going to post about my friend, Caroline, who also died in a car accident back in 1990. Sorry for your loss, superfly. I don't think I've ever gotten over my friend's death. It changed my life.

this song reminds me of my friend, Caroline, who died in a car crash my senior year in high school.. right about when this song came out. sad. but a great song in my opinion.

I love ya, Jax, but this is just about my least favorite band. I can't stand anything I've heard by them.

I Concrete Blonde.
Bill it would be so nice if you played something from their first album, like Dance Along the Edge, Still In Hollywood, Your Haunted Head. Their first album is my favorite. I would not call this band main stream rock, just one song that was played to death; Joey.
Been listening to Concrete Blonde for a long time. Johnette Napolitano is set to appear solo at SXSW this year.

why does mainstream = bad? i wish people wouldn't condemn a song/band/album simply because it had the 'misfortune' to be played on commercial radio.
This is only mainstream rock, but I like it.
Johnette Napolitano has such a captivating voice. Lovely!
Great song..fun to wail it out in the car.
Always good to hear the Blonde. I miss them.

Yo tambien. I've never actually heard this group before now, although I've always thought their name was excellent. Her voice reminds me of Dusty Springfield.

Great song, a band I think has always been a little underated for the time they were together. I heard something happened to the lead singer, I believe her last name was DiNapoli?? I heard she got sick. Anyone have info on that?

Went to a concert for Sting, Concrete Blonde was the opening act. We saw Concrete Blonde, they were great. When Sting came on we listened to one song and left. Please play more Concrete Blonde, this song was played too much.

Great sound, love this band! Great guitar style! Hugely under-rated! More please!
My old college roomate Joe used to play this crap all the time, especially the song "Joey." Now I hear "Caroline." Does Concrete Blonde have another song named for Joey and Caroline's love child? Cheesey!

Yeah, strong stuff
Cooel
Hideous, soft-glam clap-trap and caterwauling.
This might just be my favorite song by them...
wtf?

I wonder who's doing lead guitar on this track? It's really good playing, in a David Gilmour-ish kind of way.
Jim Mankey gets that credit. I saw these guys at "The Wave" in Honolulu in the late 80's - they blew the doors off the place.
Haven't heard this in a while. Thanks Bill

Oh, it has been years since I've heard this....love it!
Wicked awesome song, spooky lyrics.
this is one of my favorites to belt out in the car.
More Concrete Blonde on Radio Paradise would be a good thing
Exquisite album art.
Bumped it up a notch to 8. Better with each listen. Harkens back to the best of 80s hair rock.
Concrete Blonde has the best rendition of Leonard Cohens "Everybody Knows" -bar none. Yhis song not too shabby either.
Aynone remember Everybody knows by these in Pump Up The Volume?
mediocre twaddle...next!!
Great song, great lyrics. Johnette's mournful wails do it for me.

So the guy I like had his heart broken by a Caroline, and after a brief interlude during which he decided he didn't want anything to do with me, he now dates another Caroline. Oh, is there a song playing?

Yep, I'll upload it. I'm surprised someone hasn't tried before. I love that song. UPDATE: 5-24 Bloodletting currently in the LRC, hopefully it will be accepted!
Johnette is one of those vocalists who will completely blow you away live. So much presence and energy. Still gives me shivers thinking of it, and I saw them years and years ago.

Concrete Blonde does my soul well.
Gawd. I'd be quite happy to never hear another CB song. ever. Bleh.
OK, I'm a sucker for driving 80s style rock when it's done well. This got my blood pumping this a.m. Thanks.
I just love the ambience of this entire album and the books the songs are based on.
Good song, pretty damn good album, great vocals. And no, wouldn't mind hearing Bloodletting, or even Tomorrow, Wendy, which are both heads above this.
Very good, not great song. Always loved Johnette's vocals and James Mankey's playing and really wish I could find more from him. Anyone heard his album "Jam"?
This is a song the begs to be cranked all the way up. One of my CB faves.

Wow - can't beleive all the negativity! If I could only listen to one band for the rest of my life it would be CB.

this was the first CD that I ever bought and then sold back at a used CD store a few months later because I was so bored with it

This is really horrible. Long and horrible in fact. A 1. and I don't mean A1
Really odd..I was thinking of digging this CD out just today, this morning. And here it is showing up being played. I've always loved this album, and bah-humbug to you nay-sayers.
I love Johnette's voice. This is a great album.
Really like this....
Love the song....Love the band...play on How about adding 'Bloodletting" from the same CD to the playlist?

Hmm... a little heavy-handed and lead-footed. Not so good.
Ha- haven't heard this forever...I worked on the music video for this song back in the early 90's. The song gets played over and over all day while shooting...and then it's embedded in your cranium for life. I'm glad I like it.
