Life
It's ever so strange
It's so full of change
Think that you've worked it out
Then bang
Right out of the blue
Somethin' happens to you
To throw you off course
And then you
Breakdown
Yeah, you breakdown
Don't you breakdown
Listen to me

Because
It's just a ride, it's just a ride
No need to run, no need to hide
It'll take you 'round and 'round
Sometimes you're up, sometimes you're down
It's just a ride, it's just a ride
Don't be scared, don't hide your eyes
It may feel so real inside
But don't forget, it's just a ride

Truth
We don't wanna hear (don't wanna hear)
It's too much to take (too much to take)
Don't like to feel out of control
So we make our plans (we make our plans)
Ten times a day (ten times a day)
And when they don't go our way we
Breakdown
Yeah, we breakdown
Don't you breakdown
Listen to me

Because
It's just a ride, it's just a ride
No need to run, no need to hide
It'll take you 'round and 'round
Sometimes you're up, sometimes you're down
It's just a ride, it's just a ride
Don't be scared, don't hide your eyes
It may feel so real inside
But don't forget, it's just a ride

Slowly
Oh so very slowly
Accept that
There's no getting off
So live it
Just gotta go with it
'Cause this ride's
Never gonna stop (stop, stop, stop)

Breakdown
Don't you breakdown
No need to breakdown
No need, at all

Because
It's just a ride, it's just a ride
No need to run, no need to hide
It'll take you all around
Sometimes you're up, sometimes you're down
It's just a ride, it's just a ride
Don't be scared, now dry your eyes
It may feel so real inside
But don't forget, enjoy the ride

It's just a ride, it's just a ride
No need to run, no need to hide
It'll take you all around
Sometimes you're up, sometimes you're down
It's just a ride, it's just a ride
Don't be scared, now dry your eyes
It may feel so real inside
But don't forget, enjoy the ride

Remids me of this number, which features that bit from Bill Hick's standup routine
From Hem, to Jem, and finally, REM.
Not my favorite track from this album, but I adore Jem
shh! picked this album up real cheap at the w/end, replacin' my worn out copy love it!
the lyrics and singing are not bad, but the instumental portion just isn't anything I'm overly impressed by.
very loud stingray, but brutally honest, and I like that, a well worthy read/realization and accompanyment to a lovely song from a lovely album. Stingray wrote:
I have to warn you!!!! Take care of a critic called ARTEMIS! I know, that's me. Let me explain! Today I heard a wonderful song. I checked the playlist. JEM was the title of the band and "Just a ride" the title of the song I loved! I went to my most beloved P2P-system and started downloading the song (and others of the same band). 15 minutes later it was done! I started listening to "Just a ride" and felt it wasn't the same I'd heard on RP some time before. Yes, the same song, but seemingly a shorter version. I went back to the RP site in order to learn more, to see if maybe an "extended version" had been played on RP. While checking this, I was reading the comments of other posters. What did I find there...? Let me quote word by word: "Horribly bad. Sooooo silly! Sooooo childish" I read under November 22! Please guess, what split personality had posted this? I won't tell you. I'm too ashamed!!! What can change a man that much in only 22 days, I wonder....? It's scary, real-real scary!!!

Ha!!I've done that myself a couple times. Glad to see I'm not the only one a step ahead of the butterfly net. God I love music.

I like that! yea definately?
I think Jem's "Come on Closer" might have been used in the movie Closer, or at least the trailer. What a bunch of manipulative people they were. Miss Natalie Portman was great though. "what's your name?" "Jane Jones"
Nice tune here, digging the groove! A really nice segue would be to some Sublime.
definitely banana worthy!
Funny! And for God's sake, keep an eye out for that Bob Arctor, willya?! Stingray wrote:

oh, well you'll be needing this: actually, take two, they're small. Stingray wrote:

Ok, terrific.

This is a great album, if you like this song you should check out the whole CD. "They", "Come on Closer" and many others are outstanding (IMHO). Normally I would have pushed this away as a little too pop/electronic for my tastes, but the songs are just great. Check it out!

horribly bad! soooooo silly!!!! so childish!!!! STINGRAY!!!
its simple, and sweet. this morning it is just what i needed! thanks Bill!
The world is like a ride at an amusement park. And when you choose to go on it, you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. And the ride goes up and down and round and round. It has thrills and chills and it's very brightly coloured and it's very loud and it's fun, for a while. Some people have been on the ride for a long time, and they begin to question: Is this real, or is this just a ride? And other people have remembered, and they come back to us, they say, "Hey – don't worry, don't be afraid ever, because this is just a ride." Bill Hicks. Revelations
It's just a song, it's just a song, no need to snipe, no need to hype, it's just a song... I do like it though :) Yay Jem and the Holograms
Yah, as my friend Chris says, the H was already taken. MojoJojo wrote:

Can't get enough of this song
I think this is the weakest song on what is otherwise a really strong album. I really like her - hope to hear more of her on RP!
Lyrics are pretty weak on this one.
Yeah, can dig this right now...
There are other songs on this album that are a lot better than this one... and not as annoying.
don't they play this song on "the OC" sometimes?
Love the groove on this song.
I really like Jem! Good stuff.
Just a ride just a ride no need to run no need to hide. Yeah, that's clever.

Don't think I have ever heard this (group?) before. Sounds enough like the Bangles for me to really like it!

I was just thinking this morning that I haven't heard this for quite a while. Must mean that I like it. Push the rating up one point.
Had me fooled there for a moment, thought it was some Beth Orton remix.

Amen to that. That guy was a fearless performer.
Sounds like a toned-down, dull version of Sinead O' Connor!

Just saw Jem in concert(An OK show, not great) and she said this song was inspired by the late comedian Bill Hicks, whose video she would watch and she thought he was hilarious. An odd influence for a Welsh girl, but inspiration comes from anywhere.
Heheheee, I am in the same place: Now Playing: Jem - Just A Ride Eels - Your Lucky Day In Hell R.B. Morris - Hell On A Poor Boy Squirrel Nut Zippers - Hell Voodooo....and I am new to RP, so I am not used with that kind of rotation ;) But cheers for Jem, nice to have her here :) Roverfish wrote:

So you like to hang pictures of small children above your bed. Whatever floats your boat.

ok so this song is either about life or about a hallucingen inspired trip. my first thought was trip. listening now for maybe the 5th or 6th time I keep hearing these funnzy sounds in the background. the kind of thing my dad would say about beatles 'added for the druggies' anybody else hearing this?
So groooov-ska-delik %-)
Yes, I was dancing in my chair, what of it?

I saw your post weeks ago, now I understand the sequence! Funny & good catch !
Since this is the only 'radio' I listen to, I'm fortunate enough to not have to hear these songs over and over again. This song is one of many great songs on Jem's first major release.
I first heard it on the oc soundtrack, but it got old after a while. Its poppy.
Saw this playing on the TV screens at Blockbuster the other day.
Does anyone have Amy Correa's "The Bike" to upload? I always think it would just go so perfectly after this.

OK - what show are we gonna hear this on next? Degrassi - the golden years
Yeah, I'm falling out of love with this album. It had, I thought, a good blend of POP appeal and solid production. The more I hear it, the more I think it's a tad over produced and less substantive than I originally thought. I guess I was suckered by her really hot Welsh accent. I have only myself to blame.
Too cutesy!
She sounds kind of like Joanie Sommers. Not that anybody would actually remember who Joanie Sommers is. Nor should they. Hint: "Come alive, you're in the Pepsi generation!"
I'm liking her music more and more ....

Another way to view a hook is something unpleasant you can't escape from. This is pretty darn close

I'm surprised, I saw her at TT the Bears in Cambridge, I was charmed by her.
