Awesome! Never heard this before and I love it on first listen.
An under-appreciated album.
I first heard UT when Anodyne was released on U of Michigan college radio as I approached Ann Arbor from Chicago. It was night, I was tired: they played the whole Goddamn album and I was wide awake - awestruck. I managed to get to town and headed for the first music store that I could find (remember those?) and bought every UT CD, including this one. Some bands are transformative: you just know it immediately. I treasure those CDs to this day.

some of their first stuff, coming out of Belleville IL. Next to the Stag beer brewery.

UT split and Wilco and Son Volt were formed. I'm more of a Son Volt fan. Although Wilco is awesome, seen them both. Son Volt.
What about you?
What about you?
American Midwest kickin' back on the porch at sunset with some good friends, good food, and a whole lotta good beer music here...
Recorded 29 years ago to the day, wow I'm old

I live not far from Sandusky, Ohio. It's a hole. It's one of those small towns trying to be a real city but failing miserably. The most successful businesses are the car dealerships that specialize in selling to people with crap for credit and Rent-A-Center.
Don't they have a few roller coasters in that vicinity?

I'm sure Farrar and Tweedy listened to that all the time.
I'm not sure about the timeline of Queensryche vs. Uncle Tupelo, but from a book (those papery things bound together on one edge with writing on them) I read about the history of Wilco, they probably would have listened to Queensryche. They were just a couple of kids growing up in southern Illinois. I'm sure they heard a lot of country music too.

This definitely needs to be played more!!
Very nice tune for a Christmas afternoon.
bliss to my ears, excellent on a Friday afternoon
With a nice glass of wine, could listen four hours!
Effortlessly lovely.
Pure genius, never get tired of this song no matter how often I heard it.
Love at first listen - like somebody already wrote.
Love to see a live video of this but never found it on youtube.

The chord progression sounds very similar to Queensryche's Silent Lucidity.

Everyone sitting at my keyboard loves this track.
Thought it was Buckingham-Nicks...a little disappointed but not too much

Everybody in my church loves this music...

Well, I used to race motocross back in the day. I would still love to do that, but to many expensive hobbies can get expensive. Actually riding on the street kinda bores me.
Nope. I just love to find cool roads to drive on... another expensive hobby.
Here's one I "found" last summer... Nacimiento- Fergusson Road off Hwy 1 above San Simion, California
The view a 1/4 mile up the road...
One could deduce by the source of one of your photos that you are a motorcyclist Kurt. True?

This music is soooo good for the ears...
Maybe a name change would be auspicious?

I've bumped this from 8 to 9 - I really, really love this song! Need it on my MP3 player soon. I don't know why, when I read the words "Uncle Tupelo," I assume it's going to sound like Uncle Cracker. The brain can be a person's worst enemy sometimes...
I vow to bypass that whole "Uncle" stigma and go for the "Tupelo" factor (wouldn't that be a great band-name? "TupeloFactor")
Shutting up now.

What a beautiful song! I'd never heard Uncle Tupelo's music until I came here. It's really great stuff. And thanks for the gorgeous pics, Kurt - they really are completely fitting for this song.

Something about this song makes me think of sitting in the shade on a hot day, looking out over the ocean with a cool drink. Very nice.
Just a great song - If you like this try Dave Rawlings https://www.amazon.co.uk/Friend-David-Rawlings-Machine/dp/B002QF31QC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1267504543&sr=1-1 - the guitar sound is similar
Not bad , sir , not bad!
Don't like this one, too repetitive.

Just saw Uncle Tupelo at the 9:30 club in DC and my boyfriend kept saying this too... to the point I had to suggest he quit "hating on Wilco". 'New' UT sounded great as a whole and their lead guitarist was incredible! Closed with a rockin' cover of "Are You Sure Hank Did it This Way".
Old Uncle Tupelo is sounding better than the new Wilco album. Jay Farrar is too. ... Just sayin'
(maybe I need more time with it, but)

Really sweet strumming. I've never heard of these guys, but I just read RP's Wiki link on them. A shame they broke up.
I miss Uncle Tupelo more than I miss being 16 years old...
I think "Jagged" by the Old 97's would be a perfect song after this.
Good choices recently, Bill!
Saw these guys in Lawrence, Kansas (The Bottleneck) many years ago. One of the best shows I've ever seen.
I've been listening to this CD in the car for the past few days. Incredible. Highly, highly recommended.
Love it!

Right state, but wrong city. Doris Day is from the Western Hills section of Cincinnati (same high school as Pete Rose), not Sandusky.

This is one of those rare tunes that no matter how I am feeling, hearing it puts a smile on my face.

Such a cool vibe to this tune. Perfect for the early summer weather we've got today in New England.
I Like it! Wonder if it has anything to do with Sandusky Ohio?
Sounds similar to a Lindsay Buckingham composition called "Stephanie" recorded as Buckingham Nicks.
Great St. Louis Band!

Bouncy. Repetitive, but nice and brisk.

cryin' Uncle and that's a good thing. More Uncle Tupelo!
A musical pastry: delicate, delicious.
Hey, is this Sandusky, Ohio?
