Well I was sitting, waiting, wishing
That you believed in superstitions
Then maybe you'd see the signs
But Lord knows that this world is cruel
And I ain't the Lord, no I'm just a fool
Learning loving somebody don't make them love you
Must I always be waiting, waiting on you?
Must I always be playing, playing your fool?
I sing your songs I dance your dance
I gave your friends all a chance
Putting up with them wasn't worth never having you
And maybe you been through this before
But its my first time, so please ignore
The next few lines 'cause they're directed at you
I can't always be waiting, waiting on you
I can't always be playing, playing your fool
I keep playing your part, but its not my scene
Want this plot to twist, I've had enough mystery
Keep building me up, then shooting me down
Well I'm already down
Just wait a minute
Just sitting waiting
Just wait a minute
Just sitting waiting
Well if I was in your position
I'd put down all my ammunition
I'd wonder why it had taken me so long
But Lord knows that I'm not you
And if I was I wouldn't be so cruel
'Cause waiting on love ain't so easy to do
Must I always be waiting, waiting on you?
Must I always be playing, playing your fool?
No I can't always be waiting, waiting on you
I can't always be playing, playing your fool, fool
That you believed in superstitions

This is my first post. I am a RP fan, but of course there are many songs played I don't care for. But Jack Johnson is in a different category. I like rice cakes. They might be airy, but I like the flavor. Jack Johnson is more like a Michael Bolton flavored prairie cake without all the hair. I'll drive over the cliff with the other poster out there. Clawing at my inner eardrums.
i considered turning off my speakers for that song ... there is a part of my brain that understands how people like his music - whereas i cannot fathom why people like soft jazz - but still, i just cannot stand to listen to him and am disappointed when i find out that someone i like actually enjoys his music ...

Got to agree. I can generally tune out the stuff I don't like, but the "flat, breathy voice" sort of made me want to twist my own head off. Maybe I've had too much coffee.
It's not the coffee.....trust me..... NOT THE COFFEE

Even though his songs are very much alike... this is exactly the kind of uncomplicated music I need to hear right now... it's good when you are studying all day long and your brain just can't handle anything else... thx!

Though overplayed on FM (at least here where I live), I found myself tiptoeing.
So I must like this song too.

I love "brushfire Fairy Tales", I was excited to hear the follow up. Very disappointing. I like it. It's just more of the same.
Now I can make tea without missing anything good

Jack Johnson's lyrics are very personal, and his playing feels that way, too. It's amazing that in this American Idol world, someone can make it with music that seems to matter to no one more than to the performer. I like it and Jack likes it. Everyone else can piss off!
testy! Wow, the altitude must be affecting your clear thinking, but it has enhanced your appreciation and preference for pre-school music, rock on mtn goat!

i am sitting, waiting and wishing (& praying) this guy would take his 3rd grade strumming and cutesy lyrics off the airwaves. . .

I agree...meant for Top 40!
I like his music. So there.
thanks!
Didn't Ben Harper already have his career?
Blech!

I never liked him. I think the instruments in his music are fine -- it's his voice I find irritating.

It's the hipster hive-mind mentality around here. Much music snobbery abounds.

I actually agree. He is a chill and relaxing artist to listen to, but all of his songs are just flat and boring.
I, for one, like him. He's easy on the ears and nice to have going on in the background. He's certainly not a groundbreaker, but a nice addition to my collection. I just picked up the soundtrack to Curious George, which is Jack Johnson plus a few other artists like G. Love and Matt Costa featured on a couple of songs.

By playing only the songs only I like, and certainly nothing that was ever in a Top40 rotation. Because if other people like it, it's just so plebeian!

I've never quite understood the fascination some people have with Jack Johnson. He just doesn't seem to do it for me. Almost like he's a poor man's Cat Stevens.
Because even a "poor man's Cat Stevens" is better than most of the rubbish released these days. He may not be that brilliant, but he does have a light, crafty and listenable songwriting style like Cat Stevens once had.

Man, the negative comments on this song shock me! Jack Johnson has a distinctive, listenable sound that I think fits in very well with RP. I found myself happily bobbing along to the music before I was even conscious of what I was listening to.
I won't disparage other people's negative comments here, but I don't understand their sentiments at all.

Interesting remarks regarding JJ.Not a typical RP song(too popular),but I still like it.
tripe.

The Curious George soundtrack is really quite good, my son loves it. I actually think he should stick to kids music.
Glad he made some big bucks while the wave was crankin and he'll continue to I s'pose. Just doesn't do anything for me. North Shore Haole makes good -- read all about it. In fairness, a very (seemingly) likebale guy that caught the big one for the ride of his life. Personal opinion (forum, correct?) just think he's been over-hyped/over-played and now it's time for that set to settle down and he can return to the most perfect place in the world and watch that sunset/sunrise as the waves break. Lot's of music out there --next...! Thanks for the Dylan follow-up -- I never liked him before either... hmmm, maybe Jack will grow on me...? NAH!

SELL-OUT.
just a surfer dude with no talent.
zzzzzzzzzzz
Must you always be playing, playing this song?
Sounds like a Starbucks commerc ial...bleh!
I don't really mind hearing this song, but it's nothing special either.
This song could sound a lot better if the singer had a powerful voice.
Zzzzzzzzz... Jack Johnson is one of the most insipid singer/ songwriters out there. Everything he does sounds the same, and furthermore, sounds like some cheesy commercial.

Yes you have a very good point because all popular musicians suck. Now stop playing the Beatles and every other band that has ever been popular on commercial radio.

I love the whole rhythm of this tune.
Great for driving.
augh...so bland...
I first heard this on WDET (RIP) in Detroit last year and loved it immediately. Thanks for playing it as it brightens my day everytime I hear it.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... Jack Johnson... tasty.

RP is about quality music, whether it's overplayed on other radio stations or not. That may be unfortunate if you listen to regular radio, but as someone who doesn't, I appreciate hearing artists like Johnson.
That said, I'm not crazy about this song, though I own (and really like) "Brushfire Fairytales"...

I like this one. Now, on the other hand, "Bubble Toes" -- ick!
this cutesie stuff appeals to the ladies.

Two identical politicians are debating:
Jack Johnson: My opponent's plan goes too far!
John Jackson: My opponent's plan doesn't go too far enough!
I got this CD from a friend for my birthday and I love it.
This is one of my favorite songs right now.
i love jack johnson and own three of his cd's. can we please hear a different song, though? there are many other GOOD songs that aren't on the radio so so so so much.
Huhuhuhu, If I was a Johnson, I'd be Jack too. Huhuhuhu....Joooohnson...Huhuhuhuhu
Completely uninteresting.

Umm, my cool ass position! Must you always change your position? If so, I recommend you join the Republican party, pronto! They are always loooking to placate the public. Just a thought.......btw, I gave this a 9. For a pop-surfer dude, Jack does alright. I have yet to be disappointed. Have a good day!

Good Song.
I've heard it before, but didn't know who it was. (Stupid FM radio.) Now I'll go investigate the creator. :)
How is the rest of this cd?

It's greatness as well. VERY COOL.

I become increasingly impressed with Jack Johnson with each song of his I hear. Not bad for a guy who was described by one critic as a wasteoid surfer and barely competent songwriter. If his "barely competent" tunes are more creative and original than 96% of the dreck that passes as music these days, that's a sad outlook for the music industry.

Sounds interesting, I'd like to see that. Any idea where a guy might find that without turning to MTV?
