He was, he was in the churchyard
My father was in the first part
He came, he came to my bedroom
But I was asleep
And he woke me up again to say...
Halle, halle, hallelujah
Holy, holy is the sound
And I hope, I hope you are tired out
And I know, I know there is joy endowed
But I was asleep
And he woke me up again
And he woke me up again to say...
Hold on, hold on to your old ways
Or put off, put off every old face
And I know, I know you are changed out
And I hope, I hope you're arranged out
But I'm still asleep
And you woke me up again
And I'm still asleep
But you woke me up to be holy
My father was in the first part
He came, he came to my bedroom
But I was asleep
And he woke me up again to say...
Halle, halle, hallelujah
Holy, holy is the sound
And I hope, I hope you are tired out
And I know, I know there is joy endowed
But I was asleep
And he woke me up again
And he woke me up again to say...
Hold on, hold on to your old ways
Or put off, put off every old face
And I know, I know you are changed out
And I hope, I hope you're arranged out
But I'm still asleep
And you woke me up again
And I'm still asleep
But you woke me up to be holy

And then my head exploded...
Interesting fellow. Heard him first here on RP. This is a bit too 'Jesus' for me, sorry. I do have 'Chicago' and 'Gacy' on my player, though. Those seem to be the only two tunes I've been able to handle from him. Others differ. That's okay. We're free to disagree.
boring..........

wow... as you can see below, I felt the opposite... interesting how that happens...

Oh boy, it's Suf-YAWN again.
You might not think that if you saw him live... he is so dynamic, and the music... oh my... layers of instruments, a choir, an orchestra...weaving together, layering over each other.. order from chaos... it was really something to behold.
Oh boy, it's Suf-YAWN again.

Well said!
(I knew this song felt familiar.)
...worst concert EVER.
Interesting tune. I like the interesting keyboard/organ...

Please, Bill, I am falling asleep and into a depression here. Spice it up, darlin', get us out of this snooze-fest!!!!

Friends can disagree, you know.

I'm not one of those people who praise Sufjan so highly. But I'm also not a hater. I find some of his songs to be pretty bad. But this one is nice. Musically interesting, and yet it's still quite simple.
I like him becasue he's not afraid to step out with his odd arrangements. Very Inventive. 10 for originality 8 for over all quality.

I don't get the fascination with his work. I find this stuff trite and plodding.
Hear, hear. Sometimes his stuff is not plodding. Treacly maybe, pretentious? yes. Precious? yeah that too. Plodding? Only sometimes. Trite? Yes, always.

This song is lovely but has an odd tempo. Still making my mind up about it.

This is beautiful, and it makes me feel a lot better today, too.

One of the best songs of the album. Love that groovy little organ.
I'll have to Sufjan-der web for more info on Mr. Stevens...

Sufjan Stevens is providing some of the most beautiful and most intriguing music these days. Thank God for sending us Sufjan. :-)
Woo Hoo! Sufjan
I've seen the twee lad live and I would say the opposite: chaos from order. . . and boredom, lots of boredom. . .
