Come, let me sing into your ear
Those dancing days are gone
All the silk and satin gear
Crouch upon a stone
Wrapping that foul body up
In as foul a rag:
I carry the sun in a golden cup
The moon in a silver bag
I carry the sun in a golden cup
The moon in a silver bag

Curse as you may I sing it through
What matter if the knave
That the most could pleasure you
The children that he gave
Are somewhere sleeping like a top
Under a marble flag?
I carry the sun in a golden cup
The moon in a silver bag
I carry the sun in a golden cup
The moon in a silver bag

I thought it out this very day
Noon upon the clock
A man may put pretence away
Who leans upon a stick
May sing, and sing until he drop
Whether to maid or hag:
I carry the sun in a golden cup
The moon in a silver bag

Agreed.
I just discovered Carla Bruni, and I LOVE HER! "No Promises" is a solid album with nice tunes and poetry for lyrics. Her soft voice and sexy accent is easy to take on a lazy afternoon. :)
Very nice beat with good instrumentation...they could go a little easier on the harmonica though.
ugh
this needs to be followed by "dancing days (are here again)" by led zeppelin!
Reminds of a girl I once knew: she was born very rich and didn't know what to do with her life. She decided to be a musician, and started a (well paid) band. She even made a couple of records. And of course, noone around her would dare to tell her that the "music" was just crap, as they were on the payroll.
Like a stripped down WAIFS
She's no Nico but I mean, we have to draw some level of comparison and give her some sort of credit that in addition to having a silver spoon in her mouth she got some silver pipes and brains/ambition. I say fair play to her I kind of like the music.
crap

Something about the subtle emphasis on the "p" in "cup" just does something to me.
I think she does that because "P" is the hardest sound to sing cleanly. By doing it so cleanly(and I assume without major studio filtering) she is disarming the people who are going to put her down just because of her looks. Basically if someone says that she cannot sing they have proven themselves to be totally unknowledgeable about music. The only other possible reason to make such a statement would be jealousy or misogyny.

You might not be back for a long time!
All I knew about her was that she's a retired model, from BillG's intro. Since I could count the number of retired models who go on to be really good musicians on no hands, I wasn't expecting much. This tune has me totally mesmerized!!! Something about the subtle emphasis on the "p" in "cup" just does something to me. This morning I snagged a rip of the tune, and while I was editing it, the more I played it the more I liked it. Musically it's very cool. I heard another of her tunes from the same album, and I liked it too. Not quite like I like this one, but still quite listen-worthy. I read a short bio on her. It said that she's independently wealthy, an heir to an Italian (Pirelli?) tire company. So she never had to work a day in her life. But she pursued a career in modeling, becoming one of the top 20 highest-paid models. It seems that her previous music was for the French market. If this is her crossover debut, I certainly want more! Now I'm off to check out those pictures...

Ah, the human condition strikes again: would she have a record deal if she wasn't smokin' hot?
A little research shows that yes she would. Her father could buy her a record company. That is a fun backup band(arrangement). I need to hear this one more time .

not for $32. 49 i wouldn't buy you.
It's not her fault it's an import. Man a good looking girl put's her photo on an album and the haters come out. I was wondering why it was so hard to find Tina Dickow pictures. It's career suicide to have good genes if you want to be taken seriously. ANOTHER EDIT-Wow she is unbelievably hot. I googled a few pics and now I am so glad I listened to half the song before I checked it out. I liked the quirky sound and still do. But Oh My God!!NO way I could get past her looks and I have dated more than one wayward model. Sorry,in retrospect I guess I am one of the shallow people I commented on.

Huh. Almost.
Totally cool in so many ways Edit-I swear I had the page half open and wrote that before I saw the album cover

My thoughts exactly although I do like that album cover.
Blah blah blah

The song really doesn't do much for me but that harmonica is so Stevie Wonder!
Jack Johnson's long-lost sister?
boring 60's coffee house schmaltz. . .
