I saw you first.
It was in a dream, it was in a dream.
It was in a dream, it was in a dream.
I knew it'd work.
Or so it seemed, or so it seems.
Or so it seems, or so it seems.
While you hold on,
Let that Golden go.
Golden goes on,
So don't hold it.
Oh no, oh no.
Oh no ,oh no.
In the light, there's still stormin',
In the shade, there's still warmin'.
You'll see,
What you'll be.
In the grey, there's still colors,
Without fade, inside lovers.
We'll be,
Yeah, we'll be.
I know there's a light inside 'cause...
I saw you first,
It was in a dream, it was in a dream.
It was in a dream, it was in a dream.
While you hold on,
Let that Golden go.
'Cause Golden goes on,
So don't hold it.

I don't see where they've rejected Ripe, so maybe they'd add it. I guess I was just a surprised when meantime (EP version) was dismissed. Has a good hook, interesting changes and an international feel, things that RP regularly plays. I guess I didn't submit Up Up Up, because, at the time, I couldn't decide if I should go with the EP or the Promo version.
On Tuesday, I requested "Ripe" and Bill emailed back that he would give it a listen. While I personally like "Up, Up, Up" I don't hear it as an RP-like song so the EP or Promo version wouldn't matter. In that vein, I am surprised that Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" even plays on RP for that matter.

Agreed, Kev. I figured that "Ripe" would be RP-worthy. I need to temper my personal connection to the band with RP sensitivities. RP is the soundtrack to my life and would personally love GIVERS in standard rotation, but I yield to the master mixologist.

RP rejected Meantime and Ceiling of Plankton last year. Given those rejections (and the fact that the latter is very similar to the EP version), I kinda think the only one they'd add is Go Out at Night or maybe Atlantic. Maybe they'd add the new recording if this song.
I've never doubted this band will be successful and I think their success will go well beyond this summer. They know how to mix big hooks with experimental playing. The middle of Noche is positively weird, and yet the hooks are so huge, it really doesn't matter. Then there's their their live set.

GIVERS at Bonaroo Friday, June 10th then on to Jimmy Fallon on Monday, June 13th. I hope they maintain "Radio Paradise" status but I suspect they will become a summer pop sensation. Good for them...unfortunate for RP.

For anyone that likes this song, their album comes out on 6/7.
Last I checked, you can download Up Up Up for free from Amazon and Soundcloud.
The entire album is streaming on NPR MUSIC....not sure if that goes beyond the release date or not.

no doubt on that. I'm not sure that there's a club big enough for them there. Every show they played this year has been outdoors, AFAIK. I suspect opening Austin City Limits will grow there reputation.....though I think Austin is probably there 2nd biggest market (from what I've read, I've never seen them there).
I don't known anyone that's seen them that didn't like them and most seem fall in love.
Going to see them tonight. 3 hour drive to NOLA, Port 'O Call and then off to One Eyed Jacks
GIVERS just signed with Glassnote records (the same label as Mumford & Sons). We will definitely hear more from them in 2011.
I saw them when they came to Austin last year. They are incredible live. So much energy! Tiffany Lamson is a great front person for the band.

Here's a completely different take on Saw You First
This video has HD vdieo of a bunch of songs from various LA shows and includes a distinctly SW Louisiana take on The Talking Heads song, Road to Nowhere (about midway through).
FYI, Gives open for Ra Ra Riot starting on 1/19 in Santa Barbara. You can find details on Ra Ra Riot's website

eww
Wow...pretty good!
Sounds like Shins + My Morning Jacket!
Very likable new tunesBill, how about following the "Givers" with the "Takers"?
Only problem, I don't know if "The Takers" any good, and there are at least 2 bands out there with that name:
https://www.takersband.com/
"The Takers is a 6 piece band descended from the 80's reformation of the cult Merseybeat band The Undertakers. The band mainly plays in the North of England performing soul, rock and blues covers reminiscent of the Blues Brothers and the Commitments"
https://www.suburbanhomerecords.com/bands/active/the-takers/
"The Takers are a 6 piece Outlaw Country band from Gainesville, Florida"
Anyone know if either are any good?

This band is definitely going places. I love their upbeat style and attitude. Lafayette LA should be proud!

Wanted to comment at the time, but was at work.
I love this band. They're fun, energetic and very tight. I can't think of another band that combines indie with afropop, cajun/zydeco and near boundless energy into fun infectious songs.
Anyway, the song mojoflux referred to streams here.
Live (official) video for Saw you first
Vimeo also has this video from some place called the Empty Bottle (live unreleased song/interview).
There's other stuff, but these both have good audio/video
Edit:
just found these videos.
Saw You First This 3 Camera Pro Shot captures what the band is like live. Obviously, they normally play a smaller stage, but even in a tiny club their enthusiasm is apparent and infectious.
Ceiling Of Plankton Same pro shot, but the sound mix isn't as good.

There's a lovely song called 'Ceiling Plankton' that they do, its very catchy and grows on you a fair bit, kinda like some strange sort of foot-tapping infection.
Cool Cover... Yes
Ouch!

I could see the EP version more than the new version....for whatever reason, that version always reminded me a bit of early 70's Grateful Dead (even though it isn't like that...guess it's just the groove).
