Oh, I can see your tracks
But I won't follow them
I'll just hope for rain
Some kind of crazy wind
To erase them, chase them
Into oblivion
Oh, I can smell the smoke
From your fire, babe
But I'll leave you alone
And sleep in this lonely cave
Pray for the storm to
Scrub this dirt away
I can hear the snakes
Creeping 'cross the scene
I'm quaking in my boots
But you won't hear me scream
I'm halfway down to New Orleans
You're halfway down to New Orleans
But I won't follow them
I'll just hope for rain
Some kind of crazy wind
To erase them, chase them
Into oblivion
Oh, I can smell the smoke
From your fire, babe
But I'll leave you alone
And sleep in this lonely cave
Pray for the storm to
Scrub this dirt away
I can hear the snakes
Creeping 'cross the scene
I'm quaking in my boots
But you won't hear me scream
I'm halfway down to New Orleans
You're halfway down to New Orleans

I too thought it sounded like Neko Case, making it clear why case.lang.viers is a natural combination, eh?
(Note that I wanted to avoid the comments on "eh?" that may arise, but couldn't think of a substitute in this instance. Almost said in this 'case'.)
Wasn't completely paying attention and thought this was a Neko Case song.

That's more like it! Very talented woman. Great album - they all are.
Beautiful. Love it.

Not doing it for me on the first listen... might improve with time, but I'm kind doubting it at the moment.

LOVE IT,
For some reason I just don't really like her sound...
So sweet a sound. The melody just wispers and teases the ears.
So weird - I was hearing this song in my dreams last night - I'd wake up, then go back to sleep and there it'd be again. Life can be so inexplicable, and throwing dreams into the mix only makes it more difficult to fathom. All I can say is that this song better not be in my dreams tonight, because I'm hoping for a steamy session with Johnny Depp.
Currently a bit too twee for me.
A few more listens will show where my meter is tipping.

Like it a lot. I think she sang back-up vocals on Dec.'s Yankee Bayonet.
Vocals just give me a headache as I'm reaching for the fast forward option.......
Move On from this song!!

Bleah. Don't like any of the vocals in this.

Sounds like the dude(s) from Fleet Foxes in the background.
This actually reminds me of old classic bluegrass gospel. Not to mention this song actually found a place for that irrirating voice of the My Morning Jacket dude, his voice actually works with this tune, hide him in the background where he belongs. BTW, I like this song.

Laura is incredibly talented. So much so that we will never hear her on commercial radio. Good thing we have RP and public radio.
This is not one of her strongest tracks but pickup a copy of Year Of Meteors for a great number of really catchy and witty songs.

Did she get Fleet Foxes to sing the background vocals? Sorta sounds like it... I'm just sayin'.

I'd never heard of her either but when Bill played "Galaxies" I had to get it.
(BTW, that one prompted one of the funniest comments I've read here (by redeyespy) "She looks like a poster girl for the Dewey Decimal System and she rocks!" Or something like that. :-)
Wow, never heard of Laura but this sure is interesting! A potential need-to-buy'er... :)

Yeah, sounds like the moody love-making of Robin Pecknold and Joanna Newson.

This is a really good cd/album...its sort of fallen through the cracks with my listening though....need to pick it up again...
Just saw her last night opening for The Decemberists as part of the NW MusicFest. Great show!

Neko Case must be sincerely flattered.

I was hooked from the first four bars of the intro. This is a very awesome song - adding the CD to my (very long) list of new music to buy when I win the lottery or sell a couple million copies of my book...
Cool! New Laura Veirs - good stuff...
Am really liking this song. Love ya, Laura.
Beautiful and mellow, amazing voice! Makes me want to cry:'(
